Ok, that really does look more entertaining than Morbius.
Hope it streams on Prime.

I'll check out Moana 2. The first one didn't even have 5 minutes of plot, but it is exceptionally gorgeous.

Glen Powell’s ‘Running Man’ Remake Lands 2025 Release Date as ‘Naked Gun’ Reboot Shifts Back - The Hollywood Reporter

Paramount Pictures has announced a number of release dates for forthcoming titles, with its Glen Powell-led The Running Man remake among the projects hustling toward theaters next year.

Edgar Wright helms The Running Man, which is set for release on Nov. 21, 2025. Wright, Simon Kinberg and Nira Park produce the new version of the 1987 sci-fi flick that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The studio’s untitled Naked Gun reboot feature will now hit theaters Aug. 1, 2025, after having previously been scheduled for July 18, 2025. Akiva Schaffer helms the comedy from producers Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins. Liam Neeson stars as Detective Frank Drebin, the character originally played by Leslie Nielsen in the film franchise that launched with the first movie in 1988. Pamela Anderson and Paul Walter Hauser co-star in the new movie.

Oh god.

Leave Running Man alone.

And if you must remake The Naked Gun? Why involve unfunny hack Seth MacFarlane?

While The Running Man film was fun it is also certainly not so amazing that revisiting an almost forty year old film is a terrible idea. Of course it was also nothing like the book it is based on so there is definitely room for changes, even if it is just more closely adhering to the original. They'll never do the ending from the book but it would sure cause a lot of conversation if they did.

With deep fakes, AI and social media misinformation, the book version would feel much more relevant than a remake of the Schwarzenegger movie. But, yeah, the ending. The whole context is different now. It would be hard to keep that ending for a dark or satirical movie without it (accidentally?) coming across as “y’know, they might have had a point?”

Just went to the wiki page to look at the differences between the novel and the film and this line was in the introduction:

“The novel is set in a dystopian United States during the year 2025, in which the nation's economy is in ruins and world violence is rising.”

Ooof.

I think this might be more of a “we want to make a film of this very relevant novel” than “hey, we can make a quick buck remaking that 80’s classic” (although the latter line would definitely be useful on studio execs…)

Yeah, all I can say on top of "literally nothing interesting the coming 5 years" is that we're (re?)living in the age of -remakes-, -adaptions- and -infinite sequels-. Which doesn't mean there aren't good writers, but those good writers are not employed because they are not the type of writers that can poop out a deadline turd against the big screen like the industry demands.

Remember those days when new movies came out about yearly rather than heaps weekly? Yeah me too.

I refuse to watch the running man even if it does follow the canon better and I especially refuse to watch the Naked gun with anyone other than Leslie Nielsen, I would rather see a new movie of that with the literally unearthed body of Leslie Nielsen himself being carried and wheeled into every scene than with anyone else. No joke.

As for the running man itself, I guarantee that they will genderswap the main character, with a backstory of "downthrodden by men but persevering against all odds as a stronk girlboss" and the villain will be some old white man bad demagogue who's character is onedimensionally emitted as "I don't care about people only about moneys".

Requote this post after the movie is out for the sake of vindication.

The article I posted (and you quoted) literally says that Glen Powell is the lead.

On this I agree 100%.

I thankfully already own Running man. It's not like I've ever heard anyone asking for a reboot/remake. Because no one ever asked for it.
Looks like a lot of trash movies coming out over the next several years.
Guess I'll keep my money.

Is that the one with talentless goon Colin Farrell?

I think I started watching it years ago, and didn’t get terribly far.

I cannot stand that actor, and I’m not sure why, just something about him gives me the ick.

Did you not watch penguin?

Anyway I have that with the "actor" Nicholas cage. Everything that comes out with him in it is the worst of its genre.. well.. everything except "dream scenario", that is legit the single movie that he actually was (really) good in.

Yep, that's the one. Although I can't say about his talentless goonhood* since I don't have a problem with him, I'd say he is by far not the worst thing about the movie. I don't know what they were thinking when they made Total Recall, but I'd rather if they hadn't thought it. Especially if it's going to get compared to the classic. It's one of the few movies that I watched once and then actively tried to forget.

*Actually I might. I saw In Bruges a little while ago. Seemed to me like he did a good job there.**

** Although if you just can't stand the guy, that's just how it is. I get that with Tobey Maguire. He has a very punchable face.
