Why I Started This Army
Back in the last days of second edition 40k, a force came out in white dwarf called the Necron Raiders. They launched with a free miniature on the front of white dwarf. My interest in wargaming was starting to wane at the time, and when I saw how awful the original necron raider miniature was, it was the straw that broke the camel's back. I thought that citadel miniatures were getting to be of poorer and poorer quality so I finally walked away from wargaming for many years. Sometime in 2002, I was bored and popped in to a games workshop to see what had changed and was looking at the miniatures in the cabinet. I saw some cool looking metal skeletons with glowy green plastic bits and was shocked to learn that these cool looking models were the replacements for the ones that drove me to leave to the hobby in the first place.
I picked up a white dwarf and started getting interested again and after a couple of test models to make sure I could still paint I picked up a Necron wraith. I found it fun and easy to paint quickly so I grabbed the rest of the army you see here and painted it up. Although it is certainly far from my painting ability now (those mouldlines make me cringe), I was and am still pleased with how it turned out after just 2 months of slow painting.
