Why I Started This Army

On my first trip to the painting desk I made some of the 3rd edition starter marines (Legendary, wish they weren't oop) that (only just) resembled Ultramarines (no i don't call them 'Ultra-smurfs', since when did the smurfs wear power armour?) after a while I got bored of Ultramarines and started slapping boltgun metal on my marines, shortly after, W40K went into cryo-freeze. a couple of years later I Found them and began to read into the structure of marines, dig out old white dwarfs, buy new models and paints and so it returned... In my first attempt (excluding the boltgun metal marines) to create a custom chapter I took the term 'Non-Codex' way too far almost blasting the whole marine army structure beyond recognition, so instead of keeping the scheme and name I had created (it would remind my of my lunacy every time I looked at them + they were not very good anyway) I changed them (several times) until i got my current scheme, along the way i have had good ideas and utterly awful ones but in the end it was all worthwhile.

Army History

The Shadow Dragons' home world is Tempem V, A few millenia agon the chapter lost roughly one eighth of its marines, crushed by the heavy losses, they sunk into the darkness. They only had half a chapter to fight with, then opportunity struck, a distress signal had been intercepted, it came from the nearest forge world to Tempem V, Oficina II, the message read "to all Adeptus Astartes in the surrounding area (over lapping boom) request assistance, we are under attack, I repeat we are" (extremely loud explosion then message ends). Four Companies are mobilized to tackle the threat (the same quantity as two standard companies due to their losses) when they arrive they find a massive hulk orbiting Oficina II, whilst the space battle began, two companies (one full company) Dropped onto the planet surface to find a mix of chaos marines, chaos robots and tyranids destroying the manufactorium many deaths occurred that day and captain valde rector had been heavily injured, the Tech-Priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus decided that in return they would boost the blood knight's ranks with cyber-marines powered by an advanced version of the machine spirit AI and also link captain valde rector up to a prototype dreadnought, later referred to as a 'Knight' pattern dreadnought!
