DakkaDakka - Warhammer, 40k, Warmachine and Flames of War Community.
DakkaDakka is a large, independent wargaming community that features discussion, tutorials and images for many games.
Warhammer 40,000
Our warhammer 40k forums are among our most popular. They have been operating the longest and contain discussion about every facet of warhammer 40k from tactics and army lists to background and upcoming releases.
Warhammer Fantasy
The Warhammer Fantasy Battle Forums are consistently increasing in popularity and are almost on a par with our 40k forums covering the same large range of content with advice from some of the best tacticians the world has to offer.
Warmachine and Hordes
Dakka now has one of the largest Warmachine and Hordes forums on the web, and has a huge range of Warmachine Pictures in our gallery.
Flames of War
Flames of War and other historical games are growing in popularity here on dakka and we invite anyone to join in and discuss them in detail. As flames of war grows more popular, Dakka's coverage will only increase. Be sure to check out the Flames of War gallery to see some inspiring stuff.
Dakka Features
Dakka is a big site with a lot to explore. Here we highlight some of our more interesting features:
Wargaming Gallery
The dakka gallery is one of the largest wargaming galleries in the world and has a huge range of tagged miniatures from many game systems. From flames of war to Maelstrom's Edge, and of course 40k. You can vote on images (like using hot-or-not), and use our advanced gallery search engine to find exactly what you are looking for, be it space marines, orks, cryx or Dark Elves!
Forums
The dakka forums are growing faster and faster and are the bread and butter of the website. They still maintain quality and a fair level of freedom compared to many other forums. Our most popular forum is News and Rumours, but Dakka Discussions and 40k army lists are very popular too. There are some important rules to consider (no spam, no swearing, no piracy) but everybody gets on well enough thanks to our great moderation team.
Articles
The dakka wargaming articles are run on a wiki (like wikipedia). We have a huge range of wargaming articles covering everything from tactica to modeling and painting and even some great funny stuff. If you are bored and want to have the equivalent of dozens of magazines to read then head over to the main articles page and start clicking around. Because it is a wiki, anybody can hop in and click the 'edit' tab at the top of the page, so if you have anything to add or just see some typos or bad grammar then you can help make it better for everyone.
Army Profiles
Dakka's army profiles are a throwback to the very earliest version of dakka from the late 1990s, where various armies were highlighted in detail. Our army profiles section now contains many armies from different game systems with in depth photographs, army lists and explanations of their signifigance from their owners.

Welcome all to the 132nd round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds.
This topic this month is the Finish It! We will lift the “must start primed/basecoated” limit so people can wrap up projects and clear out stuff from the back of the bench. Or use the time to start and finish the last few models for a project. If you don’t have something that fits, you can also go with minis putting in the final shots into their target, swordsmen delivering a coup de grace, Mortal Kombat fighters performing fatalities, ending duels, climatic battles, or singing nordic psalms.
How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You may enter at any time during the month, up to the last minute. We do encourage people to enter early, as to be part of the community, but if you can’t start until the 11th hour, that’s OK.
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting. We are waiving the normal start conditions this month; feel free to use it to wrap up half done minis. But please be sure to post a start picture so we know how much you’ve done.
- After this, you may p...

Hi everybody,
After seeing the tau Xmas box, i knew i wanted it, so i planned to prepare for it and one thing leading to another, i went full mont'ka.
So, after 3 weeks of daily modeling (not the kind of model you want to see on magazines cover... Or maybe....), they are all ready for prime time. Cleaned up, gaps covered (they need to do something with the tank kit, jean claude van dame could do some split in there) and magnetizing the heck out of all the big chongus.

I am planning on painting them white. But i will shade it with grey blue and use pure white only slightly as a zenithal air brush then edge highlight most edges with either pure white or the lightest grey blue. I will do a test model to decide. The rest will be standard GW color scheme.

Thank you for reading.

How do!
So ever since 40K moved from a setting, to an ongoing narrative, it’s bugged me that few of any great import ever go splat. Sure, there’s the odd person that comes a cropper (Aun’va, Yarrick) but for the most part? The plot armour is strong.
Of course from a gaming perspective this isn’t entirely undesirable. I doubt anyone particularly fancies buying, building and painting a given named character, only for them to get killed to death in the background.
But, I still feel that to add some stakes to the game, heads must roll, and new blood rise to replace them, and further drive the narrative.
I think that any named Chapter Master should be fair game for the Reaper’s scythe. Only in death does duty end, after all.
Likewise? And I appreciate this is a super contentious one? I think Abaddon snuffing it could make for an interesting circumstance. So far he’s the only one that’s really been able to wrangle the disparate Chaos forces into something approximating a cohesive whole. And honestly? With the Great Rift in play, much of his job is done. Then given it seems incredibly bloody unlikely he’ll be allowed to lead a successful assault on Terra? I feel that to some extent, his tale is done. He’s had his massive victory. Let him fall, and the resulting fallout make matters a whole lot worse for the Imperium, as the varying Chaos Forces now go totally rogue, making their movements and plans even less predictable. Then, in the power vacuum let another rise in his place. Because such a replacement is inevitable.
Orks? Well, they’ve few enough. Ghaz I think can stay, but I feel he needs to take out a major rival/crony. For instance, if Ghaz took out Nazdreg and in doing so absorbed his forces? They become an even more serious threat. So a reverse Abaddon if you will.
Note I’m not arguing for any of these to actually happen. They’re just suggestions as to what might drive the narrative further.
What are your thoughts?

So, something I've been wondering for a bit now. We've got both the Sisters of Silence and the Distaff as all female groups of psychic blanks, and the Culexus Assassins that are a mix of both genders. It seems like there is a "large" population of male blanks that are unaccounted for, or do they simply not exist?
Canonically, I can only thing of Jurgen from the Cain books and potentially Jason Macabee from Dark Crusade, (though I'm not sure if he's still cannon or not since the Necron Pariah's got removed) as male blanks from cannon.
I always thought it was weird that Astartes didn't try to train blanks, as they would be just as valuable to an organization like that as a Librarian would, but I don't know of a single time where that has been the case. Are they just not available to be taken through the process?
Given the size of the Sisters of Silence and how relatively easily Bequin managed to create the Distaff in only a few centuries, there should be a considerable number of male blanks out there unaccounted for. Does anyone know if there is a canonical explanation for that?

I feel 10th Edition handles morale the best. 10th edition morale leadership matters, but failing a battle shock test does not make a unit useless for combat. Also, 10th edition and First Edition are the only ones where characters and vehicles are seriously affected by Battle Shock Test or Leadership Test as well. Stuff like force falling back seriously slows the game down. It should only be on special rules like specific units or strategems.
The Simulation Era (1st & 2nd Edition)
In the early days, Morale was about narrative consequence.
* The Mechanic: Roll 2d6 under your Leadership (Ld).
* The Triggers: You didn't just check for casualties. You checked if a leader died, if you were charged by something scary, or if the unit next to you broke.
* The Result: If you failed, the unit literally Fled 2d6" toward the table edge. If they reached the edge, they were gone.
* Leadership Role: Characters were "force multipliers." A Captain didn't just fight; his presence allowed units within a certain radius to use his higher Ld.
The "Fall Back" Era (3rd – 7th Edition)
This is often called the "Golden Age" of Morale because it stayed consistent for nearly 20 years.
* The Mechanic: Roll 2d6 vs. Ld after losing 25% of the squad in a single phase.
* The Result: A failed test meant the unit was Falling Back. They would move toward their deployment zone. In your next turn, you could attempt to Rally (roll Ld again), but only if the unit was at 50% strength or higher.
* Pinning: Certain weapons (like Snipers) forced "Pinning tests." If you failed, your unit didn't run, but they hit the dirt and couldn't move or shoot for a turn.
The "Fearless" Problem: Toward the end of this era, almost every "good" unit had the Fearless* rule, which effectively deleted the Morale phase from the game.
The Attrition Era (8th & 9th Edition)
GW decided that units "running ...

Hiya,
Is there any knowledge on the fire rate of lascannons? Based on the table top they have massive range, high damage and excellent accuracy. And there is no apparent reload time so unless 1 lascannons battery only holds a few shots it should wipe out infantry lines and vehicles with ruthlessly efficiency. I can’t think of a 40K book I have ready where anyone deploys lascannons so I don’t have a frame of reference.
