DakkaDakka - Warhammer, 40k, Warmachine and Flames of War Community.
DakkaDakka is a large, independent wargaming community that features discussion, tutorials and images for many games.
Warhammer 40,000
Our warhammer 40k forums are among our most popular. They have been operating the longest and contain discussion about every facet of warhammer 40k from tactics and army lists to background and upcoming releases.
Warhammer Fantasy
The Warhammer Fantasy Battle Forums are consistently increasing in popularity and are almost on a par with our 40k forums covering the same large range of content with advice from some of the best tacticians the world has to offer.
Warmachine and Hordes
Dakka now has one of the largest Warmachine and Hordes forums on the web, and has a huge range of Warmachine Pictures in our gallery.
Flames of War
Flames of War and other historical games are growing in popularity here on dakka and we invite anyone to join in and discuss them in detail. As flames of war grows more popular, Dakka's coverage will only increase. Be sure to check out the Flames of War gallery to see some inspiring stuff.
Dakka Features
Dakka is a big site with a lot to explore. Here we highlight some of our more interesting features:
Wargaming Gallery
The dakka gallery is one of the largest wargaming galleries in the world and has a huge range of tagged miniatures from many game systems. From flames of war to Maelstrom's Edge, and of course 40k. You can vote on images (like using hot-or-not), and use our advanced gallery search engine to find exactly what you are looking for, be it space marines, orks, cryx or Dark Elves!
Forums
The dakka forums are growing faster and faster and are the bread and butter of the website. They still maintain quality and a fair level of freedom compared to many other forums. Our most popular forum is News and Rumours, but Dakka Discussions and 40k army lists are very popular too. There are some important rules to consider (no spam, no swearing, no piracy) but everybody gets on well enough thanks to our great moderation team.
Articles
The dakka wargaming articles are run on a wiki (like wikipedia). We have a huge range of wargaming articles covering everything from tactica to modeling and painting and even some great funny stuff. If you are bored and want to have the equivalent of dozens of magazines to read then head over to the main articles page and start clicking around. Because it is a wiki, anybody can hop in and click the 'edit' tab at the top of the page, so if you have anything to add or just see some typos or bad grammar then you can help make it better for everyone.
Army Profiles
Dakka's army profiles are a throwback to the very earliest version of dakka from the late 1990s, where various armies were highlighted in detail. Our army profiles section now contains many armies from different game systems with in depth photographs, army lists and explanations of their signifigance from their owners.

Forgetting the fact that the game has to give lasguns a chance of beating power armour
How much damage do lasguns do in the lore of your mind?
In my mind astartes can walk through an anbsolute hail storm of laser gun fire without losing much more than paint, but humans with lasguns are plenty and astartes are few and difficult to miss. So does a human with a lasgun really have such little chance of breaking through the armour in which case what’s the point in taking the shot.
It also sets out a huge leap in firepower for weapons like plasma or a power swordsthat can, in a single shot, break power armour

The core rules are available through Warcom. We don't have the *full* picture yet, but it seems like we have the gist of it given that the existing books aren't being invalidated. How are we feeling so far?
My impression so far is that while there isn't much to be excited over, there are some decent little quality of life tweaks that are nice to see.
* I like the changes to Fly. My wave serpents might go back to being faster than simply walking now that they don't have to use all their movement clearing a wall.
* The Hidden/Detection Range rules seem potentially interesting. I suspect they're going to get overhauled after people realize they kind of just let you make a World Eaters army untargetable for the first couple turns, but I like the *idea* of playing around with ranges and targetability.
* I like that we're swapping magic circles for terrain features. I think it will be easier to convey a sense of story when you're fighting over the bell tower instead of the random circular patch of ground next to the bell tower.
Aside from that, it seems like a lot of side-grades and shuffling, though some of that shuffling might be easier for them to work with when writing FAQs down the road, etc.
I'll have to wait and see Detachment Points before I can form much of an opinion on those. I suspect these are going to end up being mildly broken or at least end up with winners and losers, but we'll see. There's some potential for the really bad detachments (looking at you Armored Warhost) to find a place if they no longer deny you the ability to take a better detachment alongside them.
I feel like my group avoided enough of the annoying fight phase cheese that the new charge/fight phase rules are going to be a mildly complicated side-grade, but I acknowledge that it's probably an upgrade for people who play in competitive environments.
My m...

Hey all, thought that trying to maintain a P&M blog might help my motivation and on getting projects completed...! Usually have a few different things on the go and definitely go through swings of hobby productivity, so we'll see how this goes...
Two main areas of focus at present, Legions Imperialis and my first 40k project in a very long time - a Hive Fleet Kraken Tyranid horde.
For Legions I've recently finished (well almost) a Blood Angels force, next on the hobby bench are some House Taranis Knights to fight alongside my Legio Ignatum and a future Mechanicum force. I really like the Mechanicum style Cerastus, so took the hit to the wallet to combine the Atropos kit with normal Lancer and Acheron/Castigator kits to make Mechanicum pattern versions of the regular Cerastus knights. House Taranis are the OG Mechanicum house, so it seemed like a nice fit theme-wise and also nice to have something other than red to paint!

Then I have my Tyranids, these guys are going to be in a 3rd Ed style Kraken colour scheme with jungle-ish themed basing. Very much also inspired by the Fall of Malvolion short story (so yes, planning a few Lamenters once the Nids are done too) as well. 3 test models completed and now working on the first full batch of Termagants and then the other two Leapers.

Trish Carden posted up on Instagram just now to say that unfortunately John Blanche passed away a couple of days ago.
It's a massive loss from one of the greatest fantasy and science fiction artists. His vision created what we all still share and enjoy today. Knew he was ill for a while but it's still a great shame.

How do!
Wasn’t entirely sure if this belonged in General or Background. If I’ve placed it wrong, I’ll know where to find it :)
Anyways. 40K is rushing headlong into being 40 years old. In fact that’s next year, 2027.
And over the years, not all weapons have continued to be a thing on the tabletop. I felt that might make an entertaining thread. I’ll kick us off with some.
Harpoon Missile
A Titan Grade support weapon, intended for use against opposing Titans. Whilst it would of course cause some damage to the superstructure, its real trick was allowing control of the target Titan to be overridden until the Titan was destroyed, or the warhead was dislodged.
Warp Missiles
At least, I don’t think they come up much. Again, a Titan Grade support weapon, with a miniaturised warp engine onboard. This allowed the missile to skip in and out of reality, bypassing any kind of shielding, and ideally appearing inside the target for its grand finale. Not terribly accurate of course, but an absolute menace. Not to be confused with the Vortex Missile.
Eldar Psychic Lance
Gosh, there’s a theme occurring, because it’s yet another Titan Grade weapon, a unique to the Warlock PSI-Titan. Essentially a scaled up, souped up Neurodisruptor Pistol. Used against a vehicle crew? It would wipe their minds, leaving them as drooling mindless shells. Against an enemy Titan that makes use of Mind Impulse Units it could be catastrophic, burning their brains out entirely. And oddly, I don’t think we’ve seen that technology replicated in any size other than Pistol and Titan Grade. That feels like a very real oversight, and a niche for a terrifying Aspect Temple.
Right, that’s some low hanging fruit out there way, anyone else got any to add?
