More About Dakka

DakkaDakka - Warhammer, 40k, Warmachine and Flames of War Community.

DakkaDakka is a large, independent wargaming community that features discussion, tutorials and images for many games.

Warhammer 40,000

Our warhammer 40k forums are among our most popular. They have been operating the longest and contain discussion about every facet of warhammer 40k from tactics and army lists to background and upcoming releases.

Warhammer Fantasy

The Warhammer Fantasy Battle Forums are consistently increasing in popularity and are almost on a par with our 40k forums covering the same large range of content with advice from some of the best tacticians the world has to offer.

Warmachine and Hordes

Dakka now has one of the largest Warmachine and Hordes forums on the web, and has a huge range of Warmachine Pictures in our gallery.

Flames of War

Flames of War and other historical games are growing in popularity here on dakka and we invite anyone to join in and discuss them in detail. As flames of war grows more popular, Dakka's coverage will only increase. Be sure to check out the Flames of War gallery to see some inspiring stuff.

Dakka Features

Dakka is a big site with a lot to explore. Here we highlight some of our more interesting features:

Wargaming Gallery

The dakka gallery is one of the largest wargaming galleries in the world and has a huge range of tagged miniatures from many game systems. From flames of war to Maelstrom's Edge, and of course 40k. You can vote on images (like using hot-or-not), and use our advanced gallery search engine to find exactly what you are looking for, be it space marines, orks, cryx or Dark Elves!

Forums

The dakka forums are growing faster and faster and are the bread and butter of the website. They still maintain quality and a fair level of freedom compared to many other forums. Our most popular forum is News and Rumours, but Dakka Discussions and 40k army lists are very popular too. There are some important rules to consider (no spam, no swearing, no piracy) but everybody gets on well enough thanks to our great moderation team.

Articles

The dakka wargaming articles are run on a wiki (like wikipedia). We have a huge range of wargaming articles covering everything from tactica to modeling and painting and even some great funny stuff. If you are bored and want to have the equivalent of dozens of magazines to read then head over to the main articles page and start clicking around. Because it is a wiki, anybody can hop in and click the 'edit' tab at the top of the page, so if you have anything to add or just see some typos or bad grammar then you can help make it better for everyone.

Army Profiles

Dakka's army profiles are a throwback to the very earliest version of dakka from the late 1990s, where various armies were highlighted in detail. Our army profiles section now contains many armies from different game systems with in depth photographs, army lists and explanations of their signifigance from their owners.

Dakka Forum: Dakka Painting Challenge Round 135 May 2026: Hunter and the Hunted

Posted: 2026-05-11 11:59:07
Forum post by Nevelon, 36 responses at time of this post.

Welcome all to the 135th round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds.

This month the topic is: Hunter and the Hunted: Rangers, inquisitors, assassins, snipers, and other combatants who search for the enemy and destroy them. Also woodland creatures, grots or othering things targeted for the hunt. Or cross the streams and paint up a fox assassin. Lots of woodland adventure minis out there. Things that stalk the night and their prey.

- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You may enter at any time during the month, up to the last minute. We do encourage people to enter early, as to be part of the community, but if you can’t start until the 11th hour, that’s OK.
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are ce...

Sponsor Press Release:
Introducing 3D Print Manager

Posted: 2026-04-26 18:00:00

Hi there!

I'm a resin printer hobbyist with a file hoarding problem and absolutely zero regrets about it. I’ve built a new free tool for other people like me that might have a similar problem.

It’s called 3D Print Manager.

It lets you download files from any website straight into your library, organize with smart folders, preview models interactively, and manage your build plates from start to finish.

Use code SENDHELP for 50% off the pro tier if you want to support a fellow hobbyist.

Thanks for taking a look — I genuinely hope it helps!

A reboot as the old thread was tearing itself apart at the seams.

To kick things off, have popped various BattleTech support vehicles off their bases and applied basing material to them.

Dakka Forum: EN GARDE (54mm duel game) by Tuomas Pirinen and John Blanche (KS May 1)

JOHN BLANCHE'S EN GARDE
Now that the Trench Crusade rulebook is safely in the hands of the production crew, it seems like a good moment to talk about a little project I have been working on in my spare time. I would like to introduce you to the world of John Blanche’s En Garde.
About a year ago, after his retirement from GW, John summoned me over to discuss an idea he had for a game. It was something he had been thinking about and planning for years. He revealed to me a wondrous stack of illustrations of warriors drawn in his inimitable and iconic style. He wanted to create a game of fast and furious fantasy duels in 54mm scale. One model per side. Brilliant. There was no way I was going to pass up this opportunity, or let anyone else make this game. Myself and John haven’t worked together on a project for over 20 years. The stars aligned and this felt like the right time to reunite.
Imagine then if you will, a city upon water where the greatest duellists of the age engage in sanctioned swordfights. In the alleys and half-submerged palaces you will find a vampiric aristocrat crossing swords with the most ferocious buccaneer captain or a refined master fencer from the far east. Here epee meets the sabre and cutlass clashes with a rapier. Here your quick wits, sharp reflexes and bright steel determine who lives and who dies.
As a quick teaser, here are some glimpse of the models made for the game as well as some of John’s character design work. As for myself, I’ve been wrestling with the age-old design dilemma of how to make one on one duels on tabletop exciting, varied and replayable. And I can’t wait to reveal how I’ve cracked it.
More news on John Blanche’s En Garde later this year. Once more unto the breach, old friend.

Dakka Forum: Sudsy's Finished Papercraft model showcase

Posted: 2026-05-06 13:59:07
Forum post by Sudsy, 39 responses at time of this post.

So, I discovered the joy of papercrafting at a young age when I could not afford to get model kits but maybe once a year with birthday money, or whatever family gave me for Christmas. Later, I left the paper behind when I was out on my own right up until I had kids of my own and they ate my wallet. With not too much disposable income, I came back to paper somewhat. Then one day, I discovered what silveroxide was doing here on Dakkadakka, and thus began my quest to build a decent motor pool of paper vehicles!

My first project was a BMP-2 inspired replacement for the venerable Imperial Guard Chimera. I cannot say I am the biggest fan of the WWI and inter-war period style of most Imperial Guard designs, so this really grabbed my attention. Better, it shows the real genius of it's designer, Eli Patoroch.

For scale (I had to create it at 96% to fit the templates onto 8.5 x 11.00 US Letter paper from ISO size), but you cannot really tell next to the miniatures. Building is a David Graffam papercraft building, and still both the vehicle and building look great for the gaming table.

Dakka Forum: Is there a in-universe reason why Space Marines can't take rotor cannons anymore?

Posted: 2026-05-06 11:59:07
Forum post by the-gentleman-ranker, 36 responses at time of this post.

If i recall, since i haven't played HH3rd only HH1st, Rotor Cannons are technically considered a special weapon and not a heavy weapony (so i suppose that means that its more lightweight, mobile and cheaper than a heavy bolter), so my question is, has a reason ever been given for why modern marines can't take these?

I assume if clearing out hordes of lightly lightly armoured opponents and if you wanted to keep some distance, surely a rotor cannon would be preferable to a non-heavy flamer as it has better range?
