If it is Space Hulk and costs 80 Euros (£70) it had better be a humdinger of a game.

Well I think I'm going to order it, decent board games are rare these days, and I did always enjoy Space Hulk. It should also be simple enough to let the boys have a play on occasion.

Plus It'd allow me to replace the other half's Termies I nicked for my Chaos from the AOBR box.

So, the big black hush hush Igotasecret box was Space Hulk as every rumour place already knew? I´m so fed up with this marketing ploy that I won´t be ordering one of this super special secret boxes for sure.

GW are a bunch of gilipollas (try that in babbelfish). Why they feel the need to be so secretive when there was no need? Now I feel better for ordering 160 oop warzone figs for 56€ post included to use as proxies for IG.

sounds more to me that you won't be ordering due to the price not the "super secretiveness" of it all (as absurd as that sounds to begin with. "they were to secretive about it, so I am not buying it. *Harumph!*" really...)

super excited for this release. Been ten years since last I played SH as a kid with my younger brother, can't wait to play it again.

Okay fellas, here it is ....

http://www.brueckenkopf-online.com/?p=6874

Die Mystery Box wurde auf dem Games Day nicht enthüllt, dafür aber durch die Blume verraten um was es sich handelt.
Games Day Deutschland 2009
Das Cover und das Games Day T-Shirt verrät es. Während die Mitarbeiter mit dem oben abgebildeten Motiv des Terminator Helms herum liefen, war das für Kunden mit einem Tyranidenschädel versehen.

Man darf also für morgen Space Hulk erwarten.

The mystery box was NOT revealed at the GD germany but it was hinted at what its going to be. The cover of the GD shirts basically tells the story. The staff is wearing one with a terminator head (see picture) while the customers get one with a tyranid skull. So for tomorrow, you can expect Space Hulk. The unveiling didnt take place at GD Germany since appearently UK didnt allow it but it will be announced via Newsletter tonight/tomorrow.

Price of the box is suppose to be around 80 Euros, with a limited edition of 5000 pieces. Thats for the german version which will also be available at stores. Each store will carry 15 boxes.

Also, there is suppose to be a trailer shown at 16:00 (which is now about 40 minutes ago). So far no infos on that though.

I would espect they would use gamesdays for these kind of big anoucements... Its bad for those that pay the ticket and its bad for them overall, Its like I go to a videogame E3 and then a developer is there with some t-shirts and says news tomorrow on a newsletter.

Talk about missed change.

Edit: actually its worse ... its like I go to E3 and ALL developers only have t-shirts and no games in the expo.

Take a look outside mate. There has never been a better time for boardgames than right now. Fantasy Flight has announced more exciting Warhammer related stuff in the last 6 weeks than GW has in the last decade.

Aye, but most of it is stuff I'm not bothered about or in Mauraders case something I owned years ago and would no longer want to play. So its all well and good suggesting I go look, when you have no idea if I have already had a good look but just find whats there to be of no interest.

Now if they want to bring back Warhammer Quest, Man'O'War or Dark Future, even with card pieces. I'm all over them, but not really anything they've offered so far that would be a must buy for me, other than their 40K RPG lines.

Yay! It's Space Hulk!
What sucks the most is that the game will be german only here and it will surely be a pain for me to get an english version.

Why is it so hard to get proper english version of games (pc and others) and movies? Global trade my behind...

I wonder if we'll get a decent explanation as to why they're making this so limited.

what better way to justify and push a $115 price tag on a board game? It'd sell eventually, but you put "LIMITED EDITION" on anything as popular and OOP as SH is and it's a guaranteed sell out.

If you cant tell, don´t tell but don´t go making snide remarks about how the rumour sites are going to be the end of the hobby just because your lame marketing and comunications department cant even make a half right campaign.

Makes me wonder WHY they've done this? What if its because of all the leaks about new products before official announcements? So they tried this excercise to see if the staff etc can keep quite under threat of disciplinerary action and get away with it? Now they have will this be the norm? All new products not allowed to be talked about, or else your job is under threat, until official unveiling on their own website...?

just seems that you're contradicting yourself when you need to go out of your way to include how you bought Warzone models (including their price, which could have easily been left out if money wasn't an issue to you /psychologoy101) Add to that, that you're throwing in that a marketing ploy (which is employed by EVERY designer/developer wanting to keep something hyped up till the very end because it creates a buzz like wildfire, that spreads faster than the Black Plague, and above all else is FREE for them. "Deny, Deny, Deny" sells hype, simple as that.) is going to cause you to forego purchasing a product? c'mon.

Totally agree - I am in the same position as you, if I want I can 99% of the time easily afford it. This type of marketing is a total crock.

Anyway - SH was a good game but it wasn't that good. Sometimes fond memories make things from the past better than they were. I am willing to bet this will be the case with SH. But not releasing it on GD - bastards, we aren't all 12 year olds.

I would like to say I agree but the simple fact is I have already left really. This year my some total of GW purchases is $200 of WH scenery and a box of gnobblers. May get a troop box or a core choice or two but reality is I have mostly left.

This SH box I was interested in potential at the beginning but really, come on, if you are going for a surprise make it a surprise - stupid marketing tactics just piss me off because I am a miserable cantakerous old man.

So I contradicted myself because I pointed that there are alternatives to GW that are cheaper and don´t need the hype to sell (although in this case the game is kind of gone) specially when they try to be clever, glad to know Evicerator now I´ll sleep better.
And yes, a badly managed marketing is going to make me foregoing this product as any marketing 101 teacher will tell you. An example:

corporate logo wrote: When Ad Campaigns Go Bad
12/05/2008

When so-called mommy bloggers caught wind of a Motrin campaign some found to be offensive, they took immediate blog action. In fact, they’re response was so powerful that Johnson & Johnson has removed the ads and apologized directly.

The online and print ad campaign for Motrin implied moms carry their babies as fashion accessories or to look like “an official mom." The mess hit the fan as moms called attention to it on the networking site, Twitter. In just two days, J&J's McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit pulled the campaign and a marketing exec began sending out e-mail apologies direct to bloggers.

And the age issue it´s because cash strapped adults have much, much better things to buy than toy soldiers.

apples and oranges. If GW had marketed it offensively ("SH, so Tuff that girls can't play it!") then there'd be reason to avoid purchasing it. As it stands your example of "bad marketing" is completely different from that of GW's. Motrin used tasteless imagery that offended moms. GW used tasteless (in your opinion.) tactics. Nothing more offensive than denial on their behalf, which they are **entitled** to do with **their** product.

Me, personally, I found it fun to follow along with all the hype NOT KNOWING what to expect. The people who're butt hurt about finding out it's SH are the as follows:

  • man... it's not what I expected. All this hype and I'm so disappointed /bummerbear!

  • balls! $115??!! I say again, balls!

  • I'm upset that I didn't know 4 months in advance of it's release what it was exactly. I hate not knowing about something.

  • Q.Q I hate GW regardless of what they do.

  • Anyways, I do have to agree with the people who're unhappy with GD being just a glorified tourney/get-together. GDs used to be about the cutting edge of the hobby. They used to be worth the couple hundred dollars you spent to make the trek to them (if you're not local to the locales they use.)

wondeful bullet point #3 looks to be a close fit for you seeing as you weren't sure, but are upset that you didn't know 4 months ago when it was first speculated.

"pissing around with this mystery aspect" has created a buzz that no amount of PR or advertising could buy. Saves money with the lot of us going on about it for 4 months on every major forum/website, speculating what it could be.

Really, have about the fact that you missed a 5th point.

5# A fake manuafctured mystery campaign when the majority of us knew what it was and it feels like I was treated like a 12 year old and results either a "meh" or a "dang what a waste of time".

See, I am sure many of us thought it was SH but many of us still had a secret hope it was something a lot cooler. Instead its just SH. Total anti-climax. That is the danger with this type of campaign when there is no substrance behind it. Of-course they will sell out (only because it is limited) and that will no doubt encourage them to do something this stupid again.

This is true and its usually true for almost every GW release but I think GW really screwed the pooch here.

They appear to have created a sense of mystery and expectation for a product that everyone knew about and then either failed to deliver the goods on the day everyone expected to or didn't take the time to correct everyone's expectations.

If this had been a positive marketing experience then there would be more positive comments and genuine excitement.

All I see are people pissed off that they didn't get the news they were expecting about the product they knew was coming.

If people are going to know what it is then give it to them and don't be coy about it. If you want to build up some sense of mystery then do it about a product that is an actual surprise instead of something that people were predicting months before the mystery box was even brought up.

Horrible execution. If this was in fact deliberate. Its really difficult to tell with GW.
