After intense pressure from Somnicide, I've started a plog detailing the building and painting of my Chaos Daemons army for our FLGS' "Tale of Many Gamers." OK not that intense, he simply reminded me that I needed to post something, so here it is.

I used to play 40K back in 3rd editions, and took a hiatus. But now, with the TOMG, it seemed like a good opportunity to get back into the game. What possessed me to do Chaos Daemons, I don't know...I think part of it was falling in love with the Soulgrinder model, and the other part was not wanting to do an army that was fun to play but no one else in the league was doing. So here I am!

Here's a few pics of the models being built, just to start things rolling. First, some bloodletters:

A soulgrinder with some plaguebearers:

And my rather sad sculpting skills at work on a converted fiend of Slaanesh:

I've just started priming and painting, so I'll post some in progress pics soon.

looks good, I actually like the idea with the fiends - the fat bloated bellies pull the idea of some disgusting pregnancy - I can see hundreds of little spider legged daemons moving around within it.

Driders, I mean Fiends are actually looking good.

On a sad note though, I frown upon the choice of mixed bases.. square and round... but we do what we have to

Give him a break, he was drunk when he built them and I am sure he will fix them all on round when he sobers up (remember, round bases fit in movement trays as well as square ones if you insist on playing an inferior game...)

Actually, all the bases in the pics are temporary. I have some resin urban bases which I'll be using, but painting separately from the models. I probably should have anticipated that comment and explained that in advance.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I've also taken a handful of figures, primed them in white, and washed them in black ink as a base for the painting. Here's some pics:

The bases are from Dark Art Miniatures. Beautiful sculpts and good prices, but I wish they had a few less air bubbles. Ah, well...nothing a little green stuff won't fix, and some of the bubbles "work" thanks to the bases being urban rubble.

Painting proceeds at a stately, measured pace. I'm doing the bloodletters first...here's some pics of them in progress. They still need work on the horns, plus highlighting and inking:

I've finished with the painting on my first squad of Bloodletters. I'm pretty happy with them, but I already have some thoughts on changes to make when I do a second squad down the road for the TMG tournament.

And wouldn't you know it, I've got my first TMG game tomorrow, so I take the minis out to spray matte finish...and nothing comes out of the can. Hopefully I'll have time to make it to the hobby shop today, but I'm pretty busy. I might just have to handle them very delicately in tomorrow's game.

Before anyone asks, I'm holding off on the bases until I've completed painting the rest of the initial 500 points.

Don't worry too much, they are plastic and though don't tend to chip at all (in fact, I haven't varnished plstic models in quite some time with no problems - even with traveling to tourneys. You will definitely need it with the metal ones though)

Looking great, man! Daemons can be a bit tough at the lower points values because you don't have the ablative wounds like you will at 1k+ so just stick through this. Also, like I mentioned before, there is kind of a steep learning curve with daemons, so expect to lose a lot until you get the hang of them and then expect to be surprised by everyone's amnesia as to all the games you lost when suddenly daemons are "unbeatable". ;-)

I'm so behind with the ToMG...nothing like dating someone new will do to distract you(in a good way)! But I have made some progress on my plaguebearers. While they're not completely finished yet(I've got a little highlighting yet to do) I thought I'd post some pics anyway, to at least inspire me to keep painting!

I've already decided I'm going to have to keep my painting to a decent tabletop standard just because of time constraints. So keep that in mind when viewing!

@Antman thanks, appreciate the feedback!

@Vitruvian, there's actually a mix of green wash and Tamiya rust weathering on the swords. Though I kind of wish that rust turned out "rustier," like with the FW weathering powders.

I'll get these bad boys based soon, but first I need to paint my Fiends and Flamers...

Skating in just under the wire of the deadline for completing the first round, here's the painted and based first 500 points of Coprophagus' Tetragon. I was in such a rush to finish, I of course ended up snapping off one of the arms of the flamers...man those suckers are a pain in the !

The family portrait:

Fiends of Slaanesh:

Flamers of Tzeentch:

Plaguebearers, part one:

Plaguebearers, part two:

Bloodletters, part one:

Bloodletters, part two:

I've realized I really need to figure out a good way to photograph these guys, as my results vary so much and don't seem to be really indicative of how they look in person(though the last set of Bloodletters probably is closest, color-wise). Also, as I was in somewhat of a rush, I don't have any individual models or other shots showing off the bases...I'll try to get some posted later.

Those Black Widow Fiends are truly disturbing.
Very nice painting on the flamers and plaguebearers, and simple, effective basing all around.
Good work.

@Crimson Cobra- Thanks for the comments on the Fiends. I was definitely going for the black widow effect(but without the ott painting an hourglass on their thoraxes). My gf looked at them and said, "hey, they're missing a breast!" and when I explained the slaaenesh daemons to her, the one word reply was, "creepy."

In regards to bases, I wanted some that were cool, but would not detract from the models and would also help unify the many colors of the army. So glad you liked.

@Antman677 - appreciate the compliments! Really loving your work on the plague marines for the ToMG

Just under the wire for the deadline, here's the next 250 points worth for the Tale of Many Gamers tournament. I've got Skulltaker on a Juggernaut, accompanied by two Bloodcrushers. While a pain to convert and assemble, these bad boys did a lot of damage in my match for this round VS Space Marines. Also, extra credit for this round were objective markers, so I put together a few that I felt were appropriately chaos-y. Let me know if you agree.

Also, apologies for some of the pics being slightly out of focus...I just don't have the energy to go and re-take them right now.

Bloodcrushers:

Skulltaker:

Mission Objectives:

Overall, I felt very rushed this round and it shows...I'll probably be going back and doing some touch up some time in the future.

Those objectives are great! I love that you used the old sorcerer, and the script in the book is really cool.
