By popular demand, I'd like to show y'all a size comparison between
Dark Sword Miniatures' fine products and the usual Games Workshop stuff. They produce some fantastically detailed minis, and advertise that they're in the 28-30mm range. I figured with that they'd fit right in with a "heroic 28mm" line. I was surprised to find, when I came home with a couple from GenCon, that some are in fact a bit bigger than a lot of the
GW stuff. They're not ridiculously bad, but it's more than some of my more anal-retentive friends would want in their armies. It also seems that it may vary a bit by the particular model as well. My collection is incredibly limited, so don't take this as a be-all-end-all for the company. Just be aware that some of their minis are a bit tall, if you're thinking of using them as a proxy in a game. But hey, maybe you like your heroes to be a bit larger than life. Whatever floats your boat.
PLEASE EXCUSE THE TERRIBLE IMAGE QUALITY. I'd rather not post something this bad, but my options were few. I'm on the hunt for my camera charger, or failing that another camera with decent macro capability. But I said I'd get these pics up, and I'd rather follow through than leave people hanging until I can get ahold of better equipment. Also, the pic's purely for size comparison. When I get a better camera, I'll take the picture a bit more head-on, as well. Pretty pictures are below.
From left to right:
GW's Lorenzo Lupo, from
WHFB. Old mini, but seems consistent size-wise with
GW stuff. Also the only
WHFB alternative I had was Skaven.
Dark Sword:
Female Mage I got from doing a speed painting competition.
Epic Honey Badger (which has a fantastically hilarious write-up page, by the way)
Thief of Hearts 2
Euron Greyjoy
And finally a trusty
AoBR Missile Launcher Space Marine.
So as you can see, they're all a bit tall. Except for the badgers, they're just awesome. If anything, they're too small. I can't mount Space Marines on them believably.
Now you know.
And knowing is half the battle.
