I am planning a golden demon diorama for the UK 2011 golden demon this september, I've started this early as I've got a few projects on the go and I want to enter diorama as this is the 1st year I can enter more than young bloods! My idea is for three orks on converted snowmobiles racing down the mountain; one is fine, one has ht a tree and is off his snowmobile and in mid-air and the other is busy laughing at the 2nd as he goes through the warning tape and off a cliff edge.

I have assembled and began painting the first ork, here are the pics:

Cool, reminds me of a chapter in Ghostmaker with similar vehicles (but larger) - basically trucks with sleds on the back (or front?) chasing down two valiant Imperial Guard heroes.. naturally, with there being ice and the Guard having guns and Orks being Orks..

I like! Are those Viking maiden braids on that ork?? (now that would be funny)

Anvildude: "Honestly, it's kinda refreshing to see an Ork vehicle that doesn't look like a rainbow threw up on it."

Hey guys I was just wondering does the deffkopta sprue come with the deffkopta separate from the rider as the I'm actually using Assault on Black Reach deffkoptas which is fine until I do the ork coming off his snowmobile as the aobr ones are attached except their arms and head and I need him completely off, in mid-air. Thanks.

As far as I know the pilot from the Metal Deffkoptas is separate but they probably won't work as well as snowmobiles being a totally different design. The AOBR design is unique to that set so there's no version of that with more options, unfortunately.

I didn't realise they only came in metal, I'm gonna have to take the rider off the deffkopta from aobr and mold a seat, backrest and everything then. This could take a while.

P.S I've almost finished the first snowmobile, I'll post pics when finished.

I have finished painting the first snowmobile and have pics. I have also managed to cut the driver off the other snowmobile, will post pics once I've greenstuffed a seat and stuff on, I will also post pics of the ork laughing as I am currently using green stuff to make him have a pointing arm and turned head. here are the pics of the normal and finished ork:

ok, I am loving the conversion, although the body looks a little to high for the skis. but unfortunately if you want to have a chance at the trophy, you will need to seriously pick up your game with the painting. of course those colours may just be the base coat and you are welcome to prove me wrong, but the paintjob still needs to be outstanding, no matter how cool the idea

Hey, you're totally right about all that, and I'll be completely blunt, I doubt it will win, however it is premature to say that as the diorama isn't finished yet, and besides, the paint job is on-par with what I would deem "decent/table-top quality", and to be fair red and yellow are some of the hardest colours to paint. I'd suggest looking for some tutorials on dakka and have a look at other blogs to see how they do it.

Ok, sorry, forgot to mention this is my original post. I will never stand any sort of chance at winning a trophy, I know that. I am entering just to see how far I get really (and you get to go in to the modelling/hobby hall an hour earlier than everyone who's not entering golden demon) and I also love making dioramas and conversions; myskill is the modelling, not the painting. Although now that that's said, thanks for C&C.

dude, just entering to get in early is a dick move, also, why enter without making your best effort all round, not just in the modelling. i for one will be puting my best efforts into my khorne lord, i will post pics in a thread at some point.

How is it a dick move? It means I don't have to wait about an hour to talk to the pros, or push through about 50 people to see the golden demon entrys, I can also get a chance to see the black library authors without for an hour, you even get access to the videogames section and the GW display boards. There's also a much shorter queue to the golden demon area and a much shorter queue on that side when you enter the gaming/shop area. It's just common sense, and I am putting in my best effort here, like I said I'm not brilliant at painting, it'll just be nice to see other people take an interest in my diorama and see how much attention it gets.
