Oh no, you're not the only one... I have the same serious problem too.

I've certainly been tempted to buy more than I need at a time, but I had to ban myself from buying models after a certain point since I'm collecting SoB, and getting an addiction there would leave my wallet as an empty husk.

This is like posting a thread about having a drinking problem on an alcoholics support website forums. Everyone has a drinking problem!
My problem is I always tell myself that I am done, and don't need anymore models. A month later, another box shows up at my door and me in denial that I have a problem..."Oh my! Dicebucket again? My wallet is buying things again!"

Yes i too cannot stop! I plan my weekly expenses and what ever is left after the mortgage and bills is fair game for hobby stuff! whether it be models or terrain or tools even books and magazines I look forward to finding at least something every week, if i don't find something I feel lost and sad until something pops up and inspires me again!

I, strangely enough, buy them three at a time.
Might try to source what I can from ebay later on, though.

No.
I buy them because I want to, not because I have a compulsion to do it. It is a choice, not a weakness.
I've never really been the impulsive, compulsive type of buyer. Started out with not a lot of money but small purchases over time.
I've since got rid of a lot of stuff I no longer need, too.

Absolutely have an addiction...
While I manage to paint what I have before I buy new stuff, I also have a habit of buying stuff because it looks cool, even though I know it will rarely, if ever, get used in a game.
I a currently working on a tyranid army (just a trygon left to paint) and am already tempted to buy a heirophant, even though it would probably never get used. I have so many models that I end up supplying armies to my friends to play aka isn't one another. I have enough models for three people to all field 2k worth of space marines if we wanted, and that's not counting my tyranids, neurons, orks, or guard.
I also own a warhound that has never been used in a game...I don't even own the apocalypse rule book.

GW pricing helped me stop buying models I dont need. I just dont feel that the quality and quantity is worth the price.
I like to go on ebay and see what vintage models are up but since I have a big collection of unpainted stuff I can restrain myself.

i bought lots of marines and i dont regret it. if you find you have too much you can always sell it later on. for awhile my supplier was blowing out new 5 marine kits for 22 bucks shipped. sguard, grey knights, assault marines etc.
i was thinking that if someone got deep discounts on storm ravens and stocked up like crazy before they hiked the price for 6th they are probably laughing right now. GW is always raising prices, now they restrict bits sales, sometime in the near future they will prob go to direct only. prices will go up, might aswell stock up now.
marines are great because you can always get rid of them easily if and when you need too. other stuff is too niche.

Crack?! No way, this can't be just plastic crack, it's way too addicting and expensive
Yes, I suffer from the same. And the problem is many times I buy them because I go like "Ooooohhh, shiny". Then they proceed to stay in a box for a very long time until I'm able to give them any attention.

I'm not addicted to buying them, I just buy them usually in bulk and then don't do allot with them for various reasons.
I have been aware of this for a few years (since we had kids basically ) but it was really driven home this week when I went into the loft to find some Necromunda stuff. I had to move 4 archive boxes full of unopened model kits out of the way, then was confronted with 15-20 GW tank kits before I could get to my boxes of old stuff.
My problem is that I keep finding was of getting stuff at 50% off and thinking "oh that would be great for that new Army idea". £200 later its in the loft when I haven't the time to do it.
I'm sitting on a Tyrants Legion, IG Armoured company, FoW German, US & Russian Armoured/Infantry and Mechanised forces. Most of this was bought after I resolved to clear the backlog 2 years ago.

I too suffer from this problem, although recently i have bgeen getting it under control. Why just yesterday i resisted spendind £10 on a 1:72 scale late war Brummbar. There you see? It can be done, with just a little help from MA (Modelers Anonamous). *EDIT* I may still get that tank next week though, this is a tough habit to break
