My local FLGS had a fun little do the other day. 1000 points, no flying anything (though you could take "flyers"... they just didn't fly, they jumped or skimmed depending). No great anti-flyer sentiment behind this, just something to shake up the local meta which was getting a bit stale. I'd recently picked up a very nice Space Wolf army (which has exactly zero anti-flyer capability) and I thought this would be a good opportunity to give it a spin. Took my 9-year-old with me and we did it as a team... he did the dice rolling and moving and I did the strategizing. It was a very fun & friendly little affair with 10 participants and a silly premise (looking for the Emperor's lost luggage). A good time all-round.
Our List:
HQ: Rune Priest - jaws, living lightning, runic armor, melta bombs
TP: 7 Grey Hunters in rhino - melta gun, srg w/ PF TP: 7 Grey Hunters in rhino - melta gun, srg w/ PF FA: 3 THC - PF & SS on separate models
Hvy: 6 Long Fangs (5 ML)

FT: Aegis Defense Line
Game 2 vs. Ethan and his Chaos Daemons (Purge the Alien)
My first game vs. the new Daemons... nasty pieces of work. Ethan had 4 huge things... and some little guys... which he hid.
Deployment is probably as you'd expect. We hide behind the comfy wall and Ethan brings the pain with his blood thirster, two soul grinders and some new thing I've never seen before. He hides his vulnerable troopies in the back where we can't get them. (most unsporting)
We set up a classic gun line, with the rhino not containing the Rune Priest tucked away in the corner for some unknown reason. TWC is place in reserve.
Our first turn involved no movement and zero shooting results... so it's better left forgotten. (no pic)
The daemons, as one might expect... move aggressively across the table.
The Wolves rely on their Long Fangs once again, who put two hull points on some kind of chariot thingie in the far left corner and immobilize it (it was the softest target & we were hoping for first blood). The other squad puts 1 wound on the blood thirster. We are clearly NOT in a rush to approach the daemons, so don't expect much movement on our part.
Ethan moves forward again, putting his blood thirster in pretty easy charge range. Unfortunately he fails his charge roll, taking a wound from an overwatching melta gun in the process.
Every missile launcher, melta gun and psychic power on the planet opens up on the thrister... sending back into the hell spawned void it came from. Meanwhile the TWC arrive... we hide them in cover on the right. That daemon was worth 3 VPs... we'll take them!
It's now up to the soul grinders, and they're more than capable of rolling up our army like a cheap cigar. I think the black grinder had to run to get into that position... not wanting to repeat the error of the blood thirster.
Once again, everything we have opens up on the immediate threat... with the anticipated results!
On the right flank, things are getting tricksy as grinder #2 comes dangerously close. We work some movement magic and screen off the only units that we've got to deal with them (the long fangs) with a rhino and the TWC.
The grinder decides its screwed around long enough and rips the rhino apart... leaving a nice crater for the SW to hide in.
In return, everything fires at the grinder, glancing 2 times and penetrating once, though the pen was minimal and ignored for some reason. You know... a proper vehicle would be dead by now.
The soul grinder grabs another victory point by eating the grey hunters.
We roll.... and the game ends (again) on turn 5!
The tale of the tape....
Ethan's Chaos Daemons: 2 kill points (rhino & tac squad)
Call of Fenris: 2 kill points (blood thirster & soul grinder), slay the warlord, first blood - 4 points! Victory!
Wow... hard fought battle. We got lucky. Had that thirster rolled even average that flank would have rolled and we would have been toast. Whims of fate I guess... or perhaps the power of the Emperor exerting itself to help some of the faithful. Who can tell?
In spite of scoring very few points this battle, we go into round 3 tied for second and playing at the top table. What army do we play against you ask??
Spoiler:
Chaos daemons!! What else?
Actually, the build is nearly identical to this one... with a few very important differences.
Another really fun game vs. a great opponent. We had a lot of fun. Thanks Ethan!

Thanks! And thanks for commenting. Even a little bump help keeps the batrep up where people can see it & they're a lot of work just to watch them sink into oblivion with no comments.

Gits, I believe the daemon-thing-you'd-never-seen-before was a skull cannon. Hard to tell but I think that's what it is.
Wait, just saw a barrel, it is definitely a skull cannon
As I recall they ran (poorly) a lot. The skull thing was stuck in the back as I'd immobilized it in turn 1 and his pink horrors (or whatever they were) hid out in the back in some ruins.

Very confusing game. Against that Gunline the Grinders and thirster should Deep Strike in so they have to endure only a single turn of shooting. Then rollup the Long Fang Flank while claiming a 4+ from the Aegis at the same time.
I would assume it is a new Daemon Player - even the Skull Cannon being in LOS at all is a bit of a misplay.
Nice report, smaller games are often an interesting challenge compared to the larger ones that are more common, you really need to think hard about the units you're adding.
