Hey all! yet another project blog!

Whilst I'm waiting to get a hold of some more bits for my Dark Mechanicum force, I've come up with a little side project involving one of my favourite Chapters the Iron Snakes.

There's no real goal in mind as of yet apart from building and painting at least one 10 man squad.

I'll be building each one individually to try and give each one it own personality. Also, this is my first attempt at true scailling marines as I've never really been a fan of the stumpy look marines tent to have.

My inspiration has come from a blog by a guy called veteran sergeant who's tutorial I've tweaked just a little bit because I'm using slightly different materials.

For now here we have the squad leader who's name I haven't come up with yet and a scale comparison with a dirty cultist

Yeah I really like them, don't get me wrong I normally love making my own bases but I have a load left over after I got them as an impulse buy when I bought the skitarii box set :p

Looking great so far.

They're so economical too, in terms of amount and the bits you'd need to achieve the same end.
You'll have to share what they're like to paint, too. The only reason I haven't gone for some is I need them from two different boxes. Can't justify an entire box for just three thunderwolf bases.

Thanks guys

Commissar, I think they're a joy to paint, you should check out my Dark Mechanicum Blog, shameless plug I know but they're all using those bases (apart from the knight :p)

In the meantime I give you Captain Issoras leader of 9th squad "Palaemon" note the use of the squad's tokens as ornaments that were drawn from the kylix for particular undertakings that have brought the squad distinction and glory

Hmm backstory... With these being a side project I hadn't really come up with anything yet but I'll start typing and see what comes off the cuff

During the closing days of the Zoican war the then Sergeant Issoras, with squad Phalaemon, encountered what could only be described as a spawn pit of the late Heriator's woe machines in the ruined habs due West of the ruined Sondar gate.

Intended as a weapon of mass destruction by Asphodel and possessed with some abominable demonic sentience. These heathen creations would, if left unchecked, multiply and overrun any attempts made by the survivors of Vervunhive and eventually the whole of Verghast.

It was due to the sudden and brutal assault made by squad Phalaemon that the ten marines completely wiped all traces of the 200 or so demonic engines from existence in less than 12 hours from their initial discovery.

This action, combined with a particularly valiant defence of a Naval convoy against a modest fleet of Ork pirates. Led to Issoras' promotion to Captain. For their latest action, Cap Issoras along with the 19th squad, have been drawn from the kylix for the undertaking of investigating reports of a possible Tau expansion force Coreward of the eastern fringe.

There we go hopefully that wasn't too bad as far a backstory goes

I do have an interesting idea forming that maybe the Iron Snakes are actually the missing 2nd legion but early on in the crusade when all hope of locating their missing Primarch seemed lost, they were assimilated into the Ultramarines legion. Hence why they pay homage to Guilliman but don't follow the Codex Astartes and also why they venerate the original leaders of their squads but lets not get ahead of ourselves

Here we have the makings of brother Teyus.

Just gotta wait for the greenstuff to cure so I can sand it flat then prime the model

I'm going to kit them all out like this (bolters, bolt pistols and chainswords) one because it looks cool. Two because I get even more options to make each marine look unique and three, that way, if I use them in a game, they can count as either a Tac, assault or maybe even a veteran squad.

Let me know what you think so far, if this starts to go well and gain enough interest, I'll have a go at true scailling a Rhino and a dreadnought

Always first into the fray, Brother Teyus.

Being the newest member of Squad Phalaemon, Brother Teyus has yet to shake off the need to prove himself that drives every young petitioner. Yet this seemingly reckless behaviour is tempered equally by his skill as a warrior and the tutelage of Captain Issoras.
