Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Once again, time to pick a subject for the next month's challenge! The options this month are:

Heavy Metal: Your entry should be a heavily armoured model, from a knight in full plate armour to a Spartan Battle Tank, if it looks like it's got enough armour to take a hit or ten then it's in!

The Best At What They Do: Your entry should be a model that represents the pinnacle of skill in their chosen field. An expert sniper, a deadly assassin, an adept engineer or a flawless duellist, it's all about the models with a very particular set of skills!

Viva La Revolution: Your entry should be some kind of rebel, guerrilla fighter, insidious anarchist or any other kind of underdog ready to rise up from the shadows against a mighty power. This could be anything from a Skaven slave plotting revolution to a Genestealer Cultist, from a heroic WW2 freedom fighter to a certain X-shaped starfighter famous for taking out a Death Star or two!

Winter Is Coming: Your entry should be themed around winter, the cold, ice or snow ect, which is of course entirely open to interpretation!

2 days to vote starting NOW!

Do I have to pick just one? They all sound like a lot of fun.

<tosses dart>

Edit: The Best at what they do gets my vote. To be fair, I’m probably going to be painting my chapter champion for my honor guard if anything but the revolution wins. In that case, I’ll paint a scout.

I went for Winter is coming in the end because I like GOT and I had an idea in my head that would fit both Winter and Revolution

Hm... Heavy Metal... or the Best at What They Do...

BA or Eldar...

Oooh, I pick the Best at What They Do! Depending on if I actually get any Harlequins done, they might still count... maybe. If not, I could dig around and see what Craftworlders I have floating around that would fit the bill. Or I could grab another 5 man set of sternguard. They're supposed to be specialists, right?

I've got a lot of prep to do for an AoS tournament in December, so it's pretty crucial I can combine some of my workload into this competition rather than taking on an extra project! I went for "Best At What They Do", as I have a Waywatcher to do. Best marksmen in the Mortal Realms and the Old World before that! :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Heavy Metal all the way

Cuz that mag was ace!

Also, I like armor

Too early for Winter is Coming imo, mostly because it's still flippin 80o here in GA argh. More like I wish it were coming!

Speak for yourself. The high were I am for the week is going to be in the mid/low 50s. Already getting frost/snow warnings. My meal plan for the week is nothing but comfort food.

You southlanders and your endless summers.

Or course, it’s all relative. I’m sure the maple-swilling barbarians to the north have a similar view of me and my ilk, even in upstate NY.

But remember that this is going to run all of November. So the icy chill of winter should be reaching you by the time you put the finishing touches on your entry.

I've got a Waywatcher too! I bought it partly to go with a very fluffy/no idea how to play Sylvaneth & Elf army, but mainly because it's such a great model. It's an amazing sculpt, one of my favorites I've ever bought. I got a Waystrider too, he's pretty cool as well.

Great categories this month, Paragon. They all sound open to interpretation and fun enough in their own right. Whichever one we do I'm bound to have something fun to paint, but at the same time I'll be slightly disappointed not to be doing any of the other three! I reckon whichever one wins, you should save the other three for subsequent months. To be honest, if they were the next four month's categories I'd be happy.

I voted Heavy Metal, as I've got plenty of tanks and stuff like that that need paint, not to mention a lot of Deathwing Terminators. I could probably figure out something for all the categories, though. In fact, I'll keep with my own tradition and list what I could do for each one:
Heavy Metal: Probably my Dark Angels Predator, although I've got a few Tau vehicles, including a Hammerhead/Skyray, that could use paint as well.
The Best At What They Do: I will likely do the entire Squad Donatus from Deathwatch: Overkill, as they really fit the theme. I'm sure I've got other things as well.
Viva La Revolution: Too bad I already did some Chaos Cultists earlier this year. One radical idea I had was maybe the model kit I've got of a BSG Cylon Raider (from the 1978 series). Only problem is, it's the more recent series where the Cylons rebelled against the Colonials, whereas in the original series (which the model is from) they were created by aliens.
Winter Is Coming: I could paint my Stormcast Eternal from the White Dwarf last year and give him a snow base, or maybe I could do something from Lord of the Rings.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Lol we can but hope =D I'm always ready for winter to be starting up in good and earnest, even though I've lived in the South now for 20 years >< I still walk outside and forget for a moment where I am, and then the humidity hits and it's all, "Oh yeah..."

Maybe next month we can do “Oppressive humidity is coming” Little harder to model then “winter” though.

(I spent about 10 years in the south, I know your pain)

Oh it would have been fun to have another mini contest! Looks like it won't happen though with Heavy Metal tearing up the poll. I am building one of my Gorechosen guys in preparation.

And Heavy Metal takes it!

As December is going to be an Open round, Winter Is Coming will be back on the list for January (by which time it'll presumably have already arrived, but oh well! )

Blimey...how did I miss this thread??!

Heavy metal eh?...well I do have a few things that fit that bill...hmm...deff dread, kanz, battlewagon, old metal maganobz...

...or there's a stompa that's been sitting around for over a year now, basecoated silver, with some of the body panels colour-blocked...barely started though, in the grand scheme of things...I'll enter one of my other options though, if you think it's a bit too far in, no worries

If only you had some 'heavy metal' Rokkers you could enter!

No idea what I can do. It's all marines on my workbench at the moment. Got some tanks, but they need loads of fixing up and paint stripping. Don't have the time for that at the moment. I'll have to have a think...

Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts

My Blog - mostly 40k, some HeroQuest

Actually I've changed my mind for November. I'm going to paint some Grav Centurions in Blood Ravens livery. I figure Centurion armor should qualify as heavy metal, right?

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

All of the subjects in the poll are great, but I'm glad Heavy Metal won. I'll probably paint my Easterling warriors or my Custodes.

Oh man, totally do the Easterlings! They had the coolest armor in the LOTR movies. I was really disappointed that they were only in one scene.
