LBursley wrote:Yeah but Jah you are perfectionist. I'm painting these models to sell for about $$45-55 each so if I go over 2 hours of work into the model I'm losing money.

For competition I agree that you MUST fix imperfections of the model but with time being an issue it's just not practical. Thanks for the feedback guys. Good and bad it all helps

you're right, man...
i'm definitely a perfectionist...
i was chuckling to myself about your comment while i was repairing all the little miscast bits on Lemartes' jump pack last night...

you're minis are definitely worth the asking price, and are a much easier sell than my $200 minimum...
since i spend at least a week on each mini, there is no way i could stand to look at little imperfections 7 days in a row...

one big benefit of your timetable is that you get to paint a larger variety of different stuff...
there are so many minis that i want to be painting, but even at top-speed i only manage to paint about about 20 a year...
i have hundreds of cool minis that i daydream paintschemes for, though...
i need 6 more arms...

keep up the good work...

cheers

Just finished up Lysander. I did a couple of different things on this model. I highlighted all the black with scorched brown and love the effect. Gave all the black a different feel and look. Maybe because brown and yellow look good together

He will be going up on the store tonight for $60. A little higher than I usually put models up but I did more work obviously

And here are other special characters soon to be on the store.

From Left:

Sergeant Chronus, Kor'sarro Khan, Njal Stormcaller

From Left:

Brother-Captain Tycho, Master of the Fleet, Chapter Master Gabriel Seth

You (or somebody else) should do some miniatures with magnets in the feet, and a few different sets of magnetized bases so you can swap the minis between grass, city, snow, or whatever else bases.

Nice Lysander too. Only part I'm not completely sold on is the shield, I like the colour, but feel like it needs a little more contrast. Really kick-ass mini though, that hammer is intense.

"Straight Fething Silver" Tanith first and only

I have a reputation, Modile, a reputation as a fair, honest man who treats his soldiers well and supports them in the face of darkness. Potentially, that reputation makes me soft. It seems I understand failure and forgive it. Some, like Kowle, believe me to be a weak commissar, not prepared to take the action my rank demands. Not prepared to enforce field discipline where I see it failing. I am an Imperial commissar. I will enflame the weak, support the wavering, guide the lost. I will be all things to all men who need me. But I will also punish without hesitation the weak, the incompetent, and the treasonous.
I am a Commissar. I am empowered to deliver justice wherever I see it lacking. I am empowered to punish cowardice. I am granted the gift of total authority to judge, in the name of the Emperor, on the field of combat.
— Colonel-Commissar Ibram Gaunt, prior to the field execution of his uncle General Aldo Dercius

The model cost is $20. I spent 4 hours on the model @ $15/hour. Try to get a quote using the pictures of Lysander and see if someone can duplicate for $60 if you provide the model. All my models sell, I'm just saying

So far Sergeant Chronus is quite cool can't wait to see it finished.

I like this Lysander much, especialy the yellow. I have question about this yellow, i have allways problems with using yellow, i must paint 3-4 layers to cover basecoat, i am using GW yellow and maybe its the problem (same with white). Can you tell me what type of colour or what type of trick do you use to paint such a nice yellow?
Thank you.

When painting yellow you definately need to be using a lighter primer.
When painting white, yellow and red that you don't want to put 10 coats on you definately have to use lt. grey or white primer.

Contary to the comments on here you can paint yellow over a black basecoat, I prefer doing eveything over black as sometimes I'm a little lazy with my shading.

The answer is to not go straight to yellow though, use something like bubonic brown or Iyanden Darksun and then golden yellow and then Sunburst Yellow/white

He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.
