Kornak is here!
Filed under: Combined Army, Infinity — Leave a comment
September 1, 2014

There were some (slightly dodgy) images floating around of Kornak this weekend, but here are the professional shoots from CB!

I have been eagerly awaiting this model, as he it has a fantastic stat line and background. It’s safe to say that the sculpt more than exceeds my expectations! In particular the sculpt has an air of authority and brutality, perfect for a Morat commander! You may notice that rather distinctively Kornak is an albino, which really makes him stand out.

On the table you really won’t regret taking Kornak (I have proxied him several times!). Although Kornak is medium infantry, he acts more like heavy infantry as he has no wound incapacitation. To top is off a massive BTS of -9, which wonderfully protects him from viral. On the offense his MK12 is exceedingly deadly, as Kornak has a very high BS of 14.

Kornak makes a fantastic addition to both Morats and vanilla Combined Army. In Morat Aggression Force he is a great lieutenant option and can link with Suryats and then Raktoraks to form very deadly and reasonably priced link teams. Kornak is such a brutal fighter he is still worth considering in vanilla Combined Army. Also, On a side note, if you do use Kornak in a vanilla Combined Army any Cadmus will appreciate copying his stat lines!

Why do they insist on making models that don't fit their base?!

Mate, that question will never be properly answered.

The best guess? They don't want to rein in the "creative talent"...because base sizes are totally something unpredictable.

Huh, I hadn't considered Cadmus copying your own side... Guess I did just pick up some shasvastii and haven't even got any Cadmus yet... but still.

These Morats are looking really, hmm whats the word... similar? Nah, coherent maybe? I have trouble telling them apart, maybe it's the 'outsider looking in' aspect, I dunno. I'm just thinking if you look at another sectorial like bakunin or even military orders, things look different enough for me to tell them apart without squinting. It's not a bad thing, not at all, just something I haven't noticed elsewhere as much.

Darn, I was hoping n3 would get rid of rules that were just a collection of other rules like morat and veteran.

Bakunin is a kind of bad example to compare the Morat to since Bakunin is a mishmash of the religious and professional military elements. If you were to look at a force made up solely of the religious or solely of the military elements that ability to tell things apart goes down a bit.

With the Military Orders if you were not to see them visibly painted different it could be difficult to tell the various units apart.

Would you have him in less of a bad-ass pose then, with his legs crossed as though he needed to run to the little Morat's room?

I would have them put him on a base which contains the extent of the model, which is the whole reason for a base.

The entire Galaxy is the little Morat's Room.

Kornak looks very good. These new Morats are outstanding minis. They are meant to look uniform because they are very militaristic and heirachal.

Makes me wonder Morats being monkey like do they throw their poo, (viral grenade maybe ) in a regimented and disciplined way of course.

Love the new Morats, what size bases are they on?

Slated for a BoW (or some other gaming site) reveal in the next couple weeks, I think.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Our good friends at warsenal have silhouettes available now, http://warsen.al/products/infinity-silhouette-markers It looks like the Mag Guard will not get it's own silhouette. But given the low profile, perhaps it goes into the S3 group with the 55mm base remotes?

They look very interesting. The grid lines are a decent idea. The S2 silhouette in Icestorm did not have that detail.

My guess is 'mini TAGs'. The Kameel is a 55mm based remote, and nowhere big enough to have a pilot. The Mag is going to be a lot bigger than a Kameel. Mini-TAG would give it the silhouette of a Gecko, which seems more likely. The concept art for the new Mag made it look a lot taller (thanks to the gun tail), but with a smaller footprint (I'd guess it'll fit onto a 55mm base), than the current model.

Wow: Not only the grid lines but also the cover lines are really, really useful (as is the transparency for LOS). This may be one of the first times where acrylic templates are actually pretty necessary (more than paper).

And the purple ones are dead sexy too. Definitely ordering a set of these along with new smoke templates when N3 drops.

Ok, about the silhouettes, do you get a shot at the model if you can see any square on the grid, or just the ones which are within the models outline on the silhouette?

I'd assume the whole grid, otherwise there's no point to using them. The point is for the silhouette to occupy the space a moving target of the models size would occupy, so as not to unfairly skew Line of Sight for or against dynamically posed models. So the sitting Djanbazan sniper is to be just as visible as the standing Al Hawwa sniper.

If they limited it to squares on the grid that the model occupied, dynamically posed models would be just as positively or negatively impacted as without the mechanic.

Yep. Any "head-sized piece" (which is what the grid lines are for) within the magic cylinder, apparently.

I'm going to be interested in seeing what TAGs get sorted into mini-vs-full-TAG sizes. Sphinx and Gecko are obviously mini: what else is?

Yeah, it's what I was thinking as well. It's a good thing to do IMHO, as it removes a lot of the ambiguity from things. I guess prone is the only thing that doesn't need a silhouette as its based on the height of the model's base, right? How do you determine line of sight from that though, use the bottom of the base to draw line of sight?

As I said above, I'm betting the Maghariba Guard will be. The concept art made it look probably twice the height it currently is, and a smaller footprint to probably fit on a 55mm base. That would give it the bulk and approximate height of a Gecko. Probably the Anaconda as well. The Tikbalang too when we finally get it. Isn't the Blue Wolf meant to be a smaller TAG too?

Any takes on what "Combat remotes" could be?

'Combat Remotes' likely refers to what my group's been calling 'Attack Remotes'. IE, the Paradiso and Human sphere offensive remotes, such as the Bulleteer, Sputniks, and those weird bug yuJing things. All the Remotes that got transitioned to a 55mm base.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

So presumably now with the slightly larger bases for the remotes, the base 'nodule' things, and the joys that came with making them fit neatly to the edge of the base, are a thing of the past?

I worry that even with the new silhouette system, true LoS will still involve those players that always seem to be able to bend light around solid objects when seeing what their unit can see. "Yep can definitely see him!", the laws of physics relegated firmly to the corner of the room for that moment (although, realise this is a problem whatever game you play, unless the rules are ready to pile on the abstraction! )
