Thanks Tipios! I still need to do a bit more claening up, I haven't touched him since I took those pics. But I have been working on a new project! It's another contest over at Throne of Skulls, but it hasn't been officailly announced yet, so I haven't done a whole lot to it, but even if the contest is changed before it's official, I'll continue with this project anyway. I'll make a new thread about it when I get a bit futher, or the contest is announced.

I will give you a hint though! It's a single model, it's Khorne related, and I am making it from scratch!

Fortunately, life has simmered down for now, and I am actually getting an hour or two a night to work on my hobby! So, unlike the last contest I wanted to enter, I might actually get this one done! Yay!

Well, it took me a while to get this project going, but I am now well under way! Check it out here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/394917.page
Let me know what you think!

As for my World Eaters, I have made progress on some of them, but nothing worth showing yet.

OK, I have a sickness. It prevents me from finishing most of my projects because I keep starting new ones before the last one is painted!

I'm not even done with the sculpt for my female commisar, and I have already bought the base model for my next conversion! But to be honest, I am really excited about this one too! I had mentioned several months ago that I wanted to build a Pre-Heresy Angron for my Pre-Heresy World Eaters for a modeling/painting contest. Well, I didn't get it started let alone done, mostly due to lack of inpiration. I was surfing the net yesterday, and to say "I was inspired" would be an understatement! I found Angron! He will of course need extensive converting (I wouldn't have it any other way!), but I think it will be great! He is made by Yedharo Models. They do larger models and Busts mostly. And when I say larger models I mean 54mm scale. And the one I bought is even large for that scale! It's 70mm tall! I will add a pic of him to the bottom of this post so you get an idea. He should be here about the time i start painting my commisar, so that will be distracting, but such is life!

Have a great day!

Right there with you, Brother.

Too much to catch up on. The Reaper Cannon conversion was excellent and inspired from start to "finish". Not quite getting the Angron angle yet, but will be back to check in.

Thanks on the Auto-Cannon, I hate all the old Shoulder Mounted heavy weapons, except for the Missile Launchers, that's about right, but the other weapons just looked too top heavy. So, I'm converting all my old metal Devastators into Chaos Havocs.

As for Angron, I always pictured him as HUGELY Muscular! Most of the models and conversions I've seen of him, even most darwings for that matter, show him as skinny and Over-armored. I just can't see a Giant, Immortal, Mentally instable, Gladiator as wanting or needed all that armor. As I envision the finished product to look like some of the drawings of Angron, but having removed some of his armor so that he has a greater range of movement, and to heck with the armor protection, especially on the back....I'm sure he would feel that he didn't need ANY armor on the back, he wasn't likely to turn his back on a live enemy was he?

And when I saw this model, it just screamed Angron to me. I still think the arms are way too big, but someone on another site said I should keep the arms, just make smaller hands. So, when I eventually get the model...it is on back order...I'll post some mock-up picks, and some scale shots, and we'll see how it looks.

I dont think you should remove the hands. I would turn the left wrist and cut the fingers so that they are closed around the haft of a massive chain-axe.

Wow, been a while since I updated this thread! I had to drop the Angron idea for now. Apparently the model I wanted has been discontinued, and would have been a hassle and expensive to get one.

So, on to other things!

Rhinos!

I recently got a Mk I Rhino in great shape,

and it inspired me to repair the one I already had...you might remember it from this photo of when I thought I could make it into a Defiler.

That didn't work out.
This is what it looked like just before I tore it to heck.

However, as you can see in the defiler mock-up picture, I had ripped off the tracks, and long ago I had drilled battle damage all over the place, even though it's going to be given to Berzerkers, my army is going to have a Dark Tech Marine, and his stand is, just because it's going to get beat to crap every battle, doesn't mean it has to look like it! So, after extensive clean-up, I had this hull.

Which is fine, but I want something different for the front. So...I turned it over! "What? It's exactly the same thing? Top and botom? Well, I put this thing together in the late 1990's, and had forgotten that.

So, I started to fill in the battle damage with Brown Stuff. And I popped off all the extra bits on the hull.

For the front, I want one single plate with a view port in the middle.

I also had an old Mk I Predator. I wanted one more Rhino, and I want to get one of the newer Predators, so I decided to tear that one apart too. Here are before pictures:

(I now have an extra Mk I Predator turret in somewhat decent shape if anyone is interested! Only slight battle damage and sporting a Mk I Land Raider Twin Linked Las Cannon)

This one is currently in the Simple Green. The other two have been stripped and taken apart. As soon as the re-puposed Predator is stripped and dissassembled, I'll take a group photo before the Chaos-ification begins!

I'm also ordering hatches from the Chaos Defiler, so I will be having drivers/gunners popping thier heads out of them. There will be only one hatch, and it will be off-center, to allow for the (magnetized) mounting of a Havoc Missile Launcher on the other side.

There will be lots of good stuff to come, at least according to plans I have in mind! And what I am planning for the "Extra Armor" plates will hopefully be very wicked! Wish me luck!

I love the old MK1 Rhinos. Other than the Land Raider all of the vehicles in my army are based on the MK1 body style. If I had the $$$ I'd likely have all old RT Land Raiders as well, but I have to admit the newer models really put a stompin' on the old one as far as looks go.

Sent you a PM as well.

@ Skalk - I like the old style too, but yes, the new Land Raiders do kick a certain amount of butt! I like the look of the new preds too, the domed turret of the old ones just don't do it for me.

Yeah, the Las Cannons I have on there are a bit silly. But I "Converted" it way before I even knew about Dakka Dakka and the vast pool of knowledge of converting!

I mean, if I did it now, I could just ask what the best way to do it would be. And I'd most likely get hafl a dozen responses on the subject!

I still have the auto cannon barrel too! (so you can convert it back if you want)

I woke up especially early this morning, and had an urge to work on an Aspiring Champion for my Chosen of Khorne. I assembled this guy without the aid of a Codex, so I may have to alter his gear. I wanted 5 chosen, all with melta guns, but I didn't realize the power fist would take up one of those slots. Maybe that isn't such a bad thing, who knows. Maybe I'll magnetize the hands for different load-outs! Brilliant!

Anyway, here is how he looks after an early morning kit-bash session.

I think I will keep this theme for the chosen though, no matter what load-out I go with. Bare arms, and a bare head, and the torsos with the chainmail over the crotch.

What do you think?

all this stuff looks great! I am such a huge fan of the older GW stuff. I'm not knocking the new stuff mind you, I just get all nestaglic when I see stuff from the early nineties and before. I really like the small things you do to the older models to bring them more in line with the look of the newer stuff, I bet it looks stunning once it's all finished.

I think I gotta stop looking though, it makes me really miss playing chaos.

I posed him thinking it would convey pretty much what Dstein said. Howling mad at the mortals displayed before him, ready to tear them assunder! (pretty cool right?)

But baneofmorgoth made me see a guy after a long day at work that goes to his car and sees all 4 of his tires are flat. (not so inspiring, oh well.)

Pox, yeah the old ones had some style, even if a bit on the "lacking in detail" side of things. I like the posability of the newer ones though. If you like the old chaos stuff, I still have 3 of the old Cartoony looking Juggernaughts with riders I am still working on! I'll try to get those painted before the end of the world. And since that is suppossed to be sometime next year, I better cracking!

Thanks!
Yeah, he's legal as is, but I wanted to convert his bolter to a melta gun. *sad face*
But since he'll be the Aspiring champ, I guess having a Power Fist would not be a bad thing.

Crap, I just had a thought...I better not convert anything else for a while. You reminded me about the rumored NEW CHAOS CODEX (cue singing chior and heavenly spotlight)

What if, with that codex everything changes? Oh well, if it's better I won't complain...too much.

Thanks Skalk, I hope the next Codex does the World Eater in particular and Chaos in general some justice!

I did some work to one of the rhinos this weekend. The one I got from Dstein in fact, as it was the cleanest one I had.
I want to make this one memorable.
And that is above and beyond the Extra Amror and updated gunner's turrets I have in mind for all 3 of these Mk I Rhinos.

First, I had to take some of the pieces off, so I could get at the interior.

What I am going for on this one is to make an interior for it and have the doors open. Not just open, but working doors. After much fiddling and measuring and cutting I got a piece of styrene cut out for a bulkhead between the troop compartment and the driver/gunner's area. It won't look quite right if you look at the exterior and interior together, the locations and possisions of the hatches are all wrong to be realistic. So keep the mind-set that the interior is about half the size it needs to be, and it should work.

Here is the bulkhead after door, computer screen and rivets were attached.

Exterior shot of the tacked-together rhino.

A view of the bulkhead through the top doors, and the rear ramp closed.

And the rear ramp opened.

And a POV of the bulkhead through the open ramp door.

You can see a gap on the bottom of the bulkhead. I have sort of fixed that.

And here is the rhino as it stands now. (Still tacked together, I want to keep it apart until I paint it.)

And with the door open. I only have one of the side doors done, I hope to make both sides operational at some point.

The styrene on the top is to give the rhino some height and to make a place for the different gunner's turret to fit. Also, I want to build up a box-like area where the top doors were to add piles of skulls, like that is where they throw all of the skulls taken in battle as trophies.

I took off the exhaught pipes so I could clean them up, the mold lines were still on them, and it was buggin me, and I did have everything else off, so why not. Also, I am taking the curved pipes on the top off and replaceing them with gargoyle heads.

I will be closing up all of the seams and gaps in the exterior with GS and sanding it down. Kind of like Weety's rhino, as I hate all of those gaps.

I also have some spkiey fence bits and newer rhino rams on order, and will be adding those to the rhinos as well.

So, that is all for now, stay tuned, and we'll hopefully see some progress on this guy this week!

Thanks Vic, I need to figure out how to make the rivets a more uniform length, but I like how it's coming along.

As for the Angron, that model is a No Go for now. One of the reasons I want to sculpt a Daemon, I figure I can use the body and maybe the arms and legs of a Daemon for a Pre-Heresy Angron base, and just make a head to go with it. Make my own dang model if they want to discontinue that one! Mueahahahaha!

Most of the back log is failed attempts at new stuff, but it's worth a read I guess...

well i hope you haven´t got rid of anything of the backlog already... i have kept mine too... you never know when a new idea or a solution might pop up...

that angron mini... is that a gw model?

as for rivetmaking... i think the holepunch methode works best in my current works with cardboard... with plasticcard i have yet to try the puchset and slicing multiple rivets from rods...well i have to try that out too...

but it didn´t look too uneven to me...

Practice, and trimming them with clippers after the glue dries. Don't worry about making them all the same length, You won't notice the different lengths once it is painted. Real rivets are not all the same either.
