That's a really cool sculpt. I see artistic talent runs in the family!

Thanks Gits. My brother loves to draw, but sculpting is a new thing for him.

For example he drew this for Red Button's Nation :

Crikey Minus, those skin tones are seriously gorgeous. Top job there fella. Hektor looks amazing. The turquoise pendant is a nice touch. Really sets off the greys. Cracking!!

While I was posting WIP shots on facebook a friend told me to add nuances in his skin tone. I followed his advice and I've put blue, turquoise, sepia and brown, but also purple and red in his skin. Whatever color that inspired me went on this model. ^^

Bad news for your brother, he missed his calling as a sculptor. Between the stellar sculpt and outstanding paint, it is a pretty amazing model.

Maybe it's not too late. For sure the nice comments on Hektor will motivate him for sculpting other models.

My brother and I are really happy with all the nice feedbacks we get on Hektor.

Lets see what's next ?
Well, I have a dreadnought beeing painted for Gits Mantis comp'. And I also painted a NPC for Eden. I don't know his english name, but in french it's called "Fangeux". It lives in swamps and such, and his skin and bites are poisonous. I thought "toxic frog" and ended painting a yellow and black Fangeux. Guess what ? I hate painting yellow. ^_^

My Mantis is slowly getting colors. I don't really know what it will look like in the end, I improvise totally. ^^

Thanks.
And of course I'm in. I judged one previous Edition of Mantis comp', I wanted to participate this time. It's been a long time since I last painted 40k models. So that was a good opportunity to dig up a model from my desk drawer.

It's definitely poisonous !
Ruleswise, it poison's you if he wounds you, but also when you injure him. He's definitely a bad guy you want to avoid.

And I promised some Mantis WIP !
Here it comes. Of course, it's faaaar from completion.

It comes from Space Crusade, or one of its extensions. I don't really know, it's a gift, someone offered me a lot of OOP models years ago (I got a bunch of orks too ). I've never played Space Crusade, but I love those old dreadnoughts.
By the way, I finished painting him. Gits, I hop you'll like it.

I chose this miniature because of it's old age, both fluffwise and modelwise. It also has 6 "members" and a nasty face, just like insects, wich is perfect.

I painted a check pattern on each flank of the head.

A view to show the freehands. I'm quite happy with the Mantis symbol. Also note the check pattern on the left shoulder, just like Gits' avatar.

That's such a strange model. The guns all looks crisp and current, but the body looks super dated. Would be interesting if FW did a modern take on it.

Cool stuff, a very nice modern interpretation of a classic model, you could probably put that in a current 40k army and not know it was out of place, the paintjob really updates it!

Sweet work as ever Minus. Lovely weathering you've done. The design was such a departure from the usual dreadnoughts but I really quite like it

That's because I replaced the original weapons with current ones. This simple weaponry switch makes the whole model look more modern in my opinion.

Paradigm wrote:Cool stuff, a very nice modern interpretation of a classic model, you could probably put that in a current 40k army and not know it was out of place, the paintjob really updates it!

In fact that's what I do. All my 40k armies mix old and newer models. When painted the same way, and not using early 90's blood red and golblin green details everywhere, the old miniatures fit pretty well in these armies.

If you love it, then this makes me a happy man Gits. Every paint splatter I've put on him, I was thinking "Minus, you're doing this for Gits !".

This week-end there was an Eden turnament in my region. I played my Convoy, and I had painted a new model especially for this occasion
I didn't really perform gamewise since the dice were really against me. However I had a great time, I enjoyed playing all those games, and in the end I won the painting prize wich makes me happy.

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Ulrich :

And this is the team I played at the tournament :

What's especially cool about your Convoy team is how different they look from the standard minis - I didn't realize how much cool stuff you'd done until I saw your batreps against other Eden minis, I guess I just assumed everything was crazy awesome in that game

Congrats on the painting award, well-earned for sure! Planning to recap your games, or too painful to relive? And is Eden usually played with such tiny groups of models??

IIRC It's a Mark X Abomination-class dreadnought from the Mission : Dreadnought expansion to Space Crusade, so at this point the base model is at least two decades old. I think it's held up quite well, though the paint job here is certainly helping.
whalemusic360 wrote:Would be interesting if FW did a modern take on it.

That's what I hoped the FW Dorito dreadnought would be, but alas
This, on the other hand, is a great update of the old Space Crusade dread.

Thanks Boss Salvage !
I try to have my own interpretation of the different factions I paint. I think a lot about my color schemes when I start a new band/army/crew because I love to have something that's really personnal. The Convoy for example is the typical "nice survivors" group in Eden. Mine are former prisonners who escaped the underground labs of my Askaris, who made medical and genetics experiments on them, creating some sort of monsters. I love tortured characters, it adds a lot more to the background and history to have someone who's torn inside than just good guys, or bad guys, in my opinion.

And yes, Eden is a real skirmish game. You play, depending on faction, between 3 and 8 models, generally 4 to 6. The game is very rich and deep, and nervous too, the interaction between the characters is very important. I'll post photos of the tournament lower in this post, you'll see several in game pictures.

You made me paint 40k, Gits ! It didn't happen for months, don't you realize ? ^^

There were several really nice bands in that tournament, that's a good point forpeople like me, who love the models as much as the game.

I painted a new warrior for my Convoy. Like Ulrich, this one is inspired by a famous fictionnal character too.
I really liked painting this one. The pants took me forever to paint, but I still enjoyed it.
