They'd fit in a Warhammer Beastman army quite easily, but I really dislike the chunky design of the plastic kits. You can get away with more I guess as they're fantasy creature, but I'd stick with Perry kits or the like when it comes to human models, just because these are so awfully proportioned. :(

I agree the FG soldiers are not the greatest models in the world but they are certainly the greatest for their price. I feel the gnolls are an even better value prospect. The other source of good gnolls in 28mm is Otherworld and their prices are bonkers.

well, there are the D&D prepainted and Pathfinder figs.. but not the greatest for a wargame. Wonderful for RPGs though..

Yes I used them pretty extensively back when I played a lot of 3.5 but they are really insufficient (at least to me) when it comes to miniatures gaming, not even in the same league as Northstars gnolls IMO.

Just two more days to go on the Gnickstarter!

Looking forward to these models. They are going to be great for D&D.

I signed up through Brigade a few days after they announced it.. and honestly I thought it had ended a week or two ago..
Glad more things got unlocked and I look forward to the new goodies.. minis, rules, etc..
I am slightly concerned the size difference between these and the Tre Manor Bones Gnolls is going to be too extreme. I've got a fair number of those too..

'Tis Over. The Gnickstarter grand total is £28505.38. That means we just skipped over the Spend Total line to free the second Violent Mushroom, and gets you two free wallpapers for your screens. Thank you everyone for participating, I'll keep you informed on the progress of getting everything sent out.

I plan on using the Northstar gnolls as gnolls and my Reaper gnolls as Flind. that way I can build up a large gnoll army and have a fewer number of Flind as elites.

New unofficial official rules.

Arachno Assassins!

Yeah, I sense that someone may be writing rules supplement just as an excuse to use models from their collection too...

Anyone know if the Gnickstarter rewards are shipping from Brigade yet or what the ETA is?

I spoke with Lon at Historicon. He said the Gnickstarter stuff arrived just as they were finishing packing up the truck to head to Virginia, and they'd start the sorting and shipping as soon as they got back.

Saw the book today at my local store. Quite tempting, especially now that those secret weapon tiles are going to be kickstarted soon.

By the time those arrive I probably will have actually finished painting all my plastic guys!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Lon is from Brigade then? Hrm.. hopefully this doesn't take as long as it sounds like lol. My boys are still home on break and this would give an awesome way to kill some time.

Lon Weiss from Brigade Games, yes. I introduced myself while buying some Copplestone Minis (which they carry now!) because we'd recently emailed about adding something to my Gnickstarter before it closed. That's when he mentioned the shipment coming in just before they left. The last day of Historicon was Sunday, so I imagine some have been shipped out already...but notice the word 'imagine'. Just supposition.

Anyone who's still on the fence about FG should definitely pick it up. There are some tiny flaws in the ruleset IMO, but then, I hear that a Bugatti Veyron has some minor cornering issues. I'm still playing it pretty regularly and enjoyably a year after getting it though. Not the Bugatti. That is sadly out of my price range. But Frostgrave isn't!

Huh, I thought that the release wasn't till the 28th of this month? Though aye, a load of people already have there's (presumably from the Gnickstarter).

I just got an email from Brigade today that my Gnickstarter package was shipped. No indication of ETA, though.

Got my Gnickstarter level 4 pledge today.

Got to say, the pictures do NOT do the plastic gnolls justice.
They are really awesome figures with lots of options.

Really superior all the way.
Well done!

I'll be buying two more boxes as soon as I can.

Yeah I have to agree.. I expected them to be one of those things that's similar to Mantic feet.. where you get the kit and have to overlook something that is just really off.. I expected it to be their faces.. or possibly their legs.
Nope!
Solid kit all around. I do wish the FG miniatures weren't 25mm or whatever they are that isn't 28 heroic. Other than that I'm very happy with them.

I just compared one to a warhammer empire greatsword soldier and they are identical height... so I think the plastic gnolls are 28mm/heroic. The frostgrave metals seem to be a bit smaller scaled though...

Cool.. I do try to run my gnolls a bit taller than humans but if they're the same height that's not so bad..

Cool, glad to hear the gnolls look really good in person. I am not all about the hyena men, but it is a really nice option to have.

A little more in depth.
The sprue contains numerous options.
The details of the components have a very well executed primitive/disheveled look. It's very tribesman-ish.
The arms don't have anything that really identifies them as being beastly... so doing arm swaps with the soldier kit (and possibly the cultists but I don't own that one yet) shouldn't be an issue. I really like the design choices they've made on almost all of the weapons. There's one little dagger that's kinda weird but otherwise the sculpts are largely impressive.
There are a lot of heavy wrappings and leather bracers around the wrists. I sculpt and I am happy to see those as they open up some opportunities but they also make hand swaps a lot easier... so score.
Each sprue has 2 bows and a crossbow.. and I have to say I like them far better than the ones from the soldier set. There are also 10 head options per frame. Some are not so great (only one or two really) and some are extremely unique so having duplicates might put a few people off.
One thing they did was to steer almost completely clear of peripheral gear. To me that was a shame as I loved the ropes and stuff that reminded me of Mordheim from the soldier box. There are a couple of shields, a little bone pouch thing, another little bone with maybe a medicine bag, a pouch with a sheathed hand axe, and a tied off sword.. but that's it. No packs or bed rolls or captured game or severed heads. It does make sense to me though and I'm not torn up about any of it.

Now, the production level is a separate topic from the design elements. I feel like Renedra's production on these is on point. The plastic seems comparable to HIPS from GW or Mantic's kits that use it. The tooling is crisp and the mold lines are extremely manageable.

The pewter bits that shipped with mine were 3 dire rats, a hyena, and ..uh.. 2 ..angry mushroom guys(?)
The dire rats are a little cartoony compared to the hyena. The plastic gnolls I would say are only mildly cartoony but the rats are a slight step more towards the older style sculpting. The hyena looks like a educational model of a hyena to my eye.. It's very strictly scaled and very tightly sculpted.
The weird mushroom guys.. For what they are they're well done. One is not what I'd consider one of their better offerings, with rather odd design choices. The other is a solid entrant into that very niche category.

If people enjoyed this let me know. I haven't gotten into the book or wizard sheet yet but I will shortly. If you would like a little review of that like this one I can oblige as well (it's not considered OT to do reviews right?)

Good to hear.

I got talked down out of pledging for this one unfortunately. Good to hear about the quality.

I have the cultists, and I really like them I haven't put many together as I'm waiting to get a box of soldiers (as well as some WW2 German weapons in plastic to make some good and proper evil pulp style cultists) to convert them.

If the arms for the Gnolls aren't overly hairy then I may add those to the mix.

Did you happen to get any of the metal gnolls? Any word on them?

I was a bit disappointed with the Frostgrave mushrooms. The sculpts left a lot to be desired from what I say, but then again I've been knee deep in Ganesha's Fighting Fungi these past few weeks so maybe my view of niche mushroom men is a bit biased.

I thought a metal gnoll was unlocked as a freebie but I didn't see one in the box.
There's not really any hair at all on the arms. Which sounds like they wouldn't look right on a gnoll but I really don't think it'll be missed if you paint them up in regular gnoll colors.

I have to admit, I want a box of the cultists for similar reasons.

I thought something was unlocked as free but didn't see anything in the box other than what I specifically purchased.

My metal freebies were in little baggies floating around in the peanuts.. I almost didn't see them.. Maybe send a message to brigade or something?

Freebies should have been some giant rats, a hyena, and some mushroom men.
