Lol, important enough to say twice?

Sure, as the video shows, its the same size as the razorback and land raider twin AC turrets but that doesn't mean that its asthetically pleasing on the model. The oversized for its frame weapons and their housings are one of the two things commonly cited for the vehicles GI JOE toy look (the other being the squat chibi look). GW can take the missle launchers from the land speeder and put them on the next terminator kit but that doesn't mean it'll look very good. Obviously this is a judgement call but it seems to be a frequent complaint.

More like "Autumn of Fliers" turned out to be "Late Spring of 3 fliers for one faction, 1 flier for another, 2 for a third that was just missing a codex entry, and nothing for anyone else especially and including those armies that don't have any fliers or codex support whatsoever for six years..."

And as far as Stickmonkey's accuracy, well... still waiting on any of the things he actually predicted, as I don't believe any of these fliers (maybe the orks?) match up to his predictions. So hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

So I put the StormTalon together and it actually looks a lot better in person. Few things of note. Like mentioned the box is twice as big as needed. The kit goes together rather smoothly. Your given an option to extend the tail skid (not sure why you would want to) The missiles on the cheeks are about the same size as the missile launcher on a dread. The plane is super small, I mean tiny tiny. The odest thing is the way the stand just goes into the fuselage about an inch or so. All in all not as ugly as the photos sugested, but still a lil more chibi than it should be.

Maybe they hired PP's photographer. For a while there every PP model preview was shot from the absolute worst possible angle.

Gods, i know.

I looked at getting into PP a while back, but the models looked terrible, so i held off.

Then I got to see some well-painted ones up close

I have a small Menoth army and a tiny Searforge Commision force to add to my to-paint list now

I was fortunate enough that got to see real models at my club so i rock a small menoth force too. Exemplars are so fiddlely to paint!

Anyway, on topic, from you tube videos I've seem, the new flyers don't look that bad really, but then I thought they were fine even when everyone was in angry nerd mode.

Based on what I've heard/seen

Eldar are getting a dual kit. A fighter, bomber/heavy attack, and transport were in the works. The heavy attack craft and transport most share a design aesthetic. So this is what I am expecting.

Tau are getting a fighter/gunship in a single kit. Roughly the size of a Stormtalon. Has new missile options. Not the existing tau seekers.
Rule wise ( remember Im not good at getting accurate rule info, so add your own salt and keep it off the forum please) its supposed to take advantage of markerlights in a different way...allowing for indirect fire on any target in range with a markerlights on it from any other tau unit. This is with all it's weaponry, not just missiles. Or so the rumor goes.
Tau have a transport flyer also which should be out with the codex, not before.

Dark eldar should finally see their bomber.

And the most interesting bit, which some may have already had a hint of, there is a third Necron flyer, it uses one of the sprues from the new scythe kit...but don't hold your breath for it...I don't expect it until 2013-...ish....

im very interested in what the tau get. as it stands, as long as it isnt total crap, it could change the tau meta...significantly if its halfway decent
the storm talon isnt going to change my playstyle much, but this increase in armies with fast skimmers on flying bases is going to make me convert some more hydras...

I'm very sorry if this has already been posted, but here is a couple of piccies of a conversion that a modeller, Anvils Hammer, over on Warseer has done of the Stormtalon.

I personally though this kit was terrible , but after seeing what he has done here, I'm going to get one now and give it a go!

EDIT - He is also a member here, under the same name. Well done mate!

Padre^.

Original post...

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?342991-Storm-Talon-Conversion-how-it-should-have-looked!

"hey Guys,

I love the concept for a Storm Talon, but hated the model, so I spent this afternoon hacking it up and rebuilding to make it a lot more aerodynamic and flight capable.

I didnt have time or tools available to make all the changes I wanted, but Ive fixed what I saw as the main issues, I wont get round to actually completing this WIP model, or painting it, for months most likely, but Im hoping a few people will steal the ideas!

Alterations-

Assault cannons directly integrated into the nose cone.

Rest of Nose trimmed down to make it a lot more streamlined and sleek looking.

Missile pods integrated into the top of the fuselage. Again, to make the craft sleeker and more aerodynamic. If Id used the lascannons or heavy bolters, I would have integrated them into the sides of the nose cone.

Old tail fin cut in half and used to make new engine wings, which are longer and thinner and have control surfaces, more realistic for horizontal flight. I cut off the old top fin completely and used one of the engine side fins to make a new tail upright.

Hope this provides inspirations for other people who dont like the regular Storm Talon! Im happy to answer any specific questions about the build.

Cheers,

AH"

Looks like Stickmonkey must have inside information, a third necron flyer no one is predicting that, too hard to guess that surely as there isn't one in the codex. Strange that necrons are getting something new so soon after their codex got complete! Glad to hear that they are supporting other armies with flyers too.

The conversion looks not bad, until you realize that every missile grills the glass canopy and blinds the pilot.

I think we just assume that practicality has no use in the year 40k and say yes, that conversion looks very nice.

On the new rumours, I don't know whether to trust them or not. They could just be feeding off the resent releases for views but they don't sound bad. I don't get the extra de flyer though. I would expect the nid thing (sorry, no idea what it’s called) or something for ether chaos, ig or sisters since they have no current flyer. By flyer I mean skimmer that has aerial assault and supersonic.

DE are still missing one of their two flyers, so this would be filling a gap in the range. This would also be the case with the Harpy, so releasing their models would be a good thing.

I'm not too clear on the Eldar rumours, though - can't really see the existing Eldar flyers fitting as a multi-kit.

Most of those answers consist of yelling "Hersey!" and killing the person asking the question though.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Thats quite a departure from how flyers have been done for eldar before but not in a bad way.

And for reference the current nightwing.

Actually think GW conversion of the nightwing as well as a new design flyer would be great as it might add some much needed variety to the eldar range. The nightwing also makes a great parody of the DE fliers.

Exactly what I'm thinking!

Darkseid's piccie on page 23 of this thread is a good indicator of how this would look - I'm going to combine that with Anvil's conversion...

As soon as I find a cheap Stormtalon on eBay.

NO WAY am I paying AU$76.00... It's GBP27.50 in the UK, which at current conversion rates works out to AU$43.50.

How do GW justify charging me an extra 40% over the UK price just because I live in Oz?
