Been a while since an update, hey?

I'll leave excuses aside and just be glad that I've been painting a little more. I'm sure there are a few things to show, but here's a start -

Extra member for a long running future sports team (the models are a great homage to Salute of the Jugger, a fantastic / awful Rutger Hauer B-movie from the 80s)

One more to go to complete the team!

A pair of stranded peacekeepers - hopefully a full squad to come.

I struggle with blues and whites, so thought these guys might be a good way to force myself to learn.

And finally a few modern things I've done that don't quite fit the theme for this blog, but were fun at the time:
Spoiler:

Hope you like, and as always, please let me know what you think. No promises on the next update but maybe soon?

Looking great. I have a couple of those Jugger teams, one my daughter painted and one I painted. Very cool figures. You're other figs look great too. Love the guy with the nose ring. Where is he from?

My juggers, orange/green painted by me, blue/red painted by daughter (really poor pictures):

I loved Salute of the Jugger so its great to know there are miniatures. They look fantastic, so grubby and shabby, like Rutgers team in the film.

Ha you returned so glad to see you back at it mate, hope to some of your fins conversions again soon.
Like the peace keepers blue and whites look good mate.
The civvies look good as well, but would rather see your work rather than stock models

Thanks for the replies, folks!

@CptJake - Love your take, and a little jealous that you have someone to play the actual game with! How old is your girl? Both teams look good!
The nosering gent is a combination of two models with a little greenstuff. The body is from a model from Scavenge Skirmish Survive, right hand side of the top picture in the link. I like the models made by this gent, but not a huge fan of the faces! The head is from a Victoria Miniatures set, though I can't quite remember which one. Maybe the penal legion? Thanks for the kind words!

@Weety - Cheers! It's a great film, isn't it? I can never find a decent quality copy, but totally worth the watch. I like Rutger Hauer in most things he's in!

@LDD - Thanks very much, it's good to be back! Admittedly they're not as involved as my usual fare, but some of the civvies do have some green stuff work. The roadworker gent is described above, and the lady in the stab vest is actually this Hasslefree survivor with a bit of work. I wanted to make her look a little more equipped!
I'll try to make the next few things I post a little more on-topic

Daughter is currently 14, she was 11 or 12 when she painted them (I can't remember when Scurv put them out). They were the first figs she painted completely on her own.

Nosering guy is fantastic. Heck, all your stuff looks great!

My copy of Jugger looks like it has survived the apocalypse... but it plays and I got it for 20p at the car-boot sale/bartertown. For me everything Rutger Hauer touches turns into B-movie gold, have you ever seen Split Second?

A few more models before I'm away in Cornwall for a few days.

A unit of creatures:

(Hasslefree Mawe and Lesser Mawes with a little green stuff)

Called "mourners" or "howlers" by the people of Caitiff, these creatures use echolocation in a similar means to bats when hunting. Their haunting cries climb to higher and higher frequency as they approach their prey - higher frequency allows for better definition. When you can no longer hear them, you're either safe or they've slipped into ultrasound, and are right on top of you. Better keep running! Originally dwelling in caves and subterranean rivers below Caitiff, they have adapted well to life in the deeper levels of the hives. The set here are a mother and her brood.

And a scavenger mini too:

(One of the Last Heroes from Lead Adventure)
I enjoyed painting his backpack!
Spoiler:

He's absolutely tiny, and was lots of fun to paint.

As always, please let me know what you think. See you all in a few days!

Couple more models for you:

EM4 future skirmish scavenger (£1.50 model!) with legs carved off and resculpted. He had a bit of a clown feet vibe going on and was a little short for my tastes too, but I'm happy with how he turned out.

Moss, a Jackal I converted a wee while ago, but have only just been brave enough to paint. Based off this Hasslefree lass with a fair bit of greenstuff and borrowed bits. The arm is plastruct rod and green stuff with a zombie hand on the end! I'm reasonably happy with her, and I'm hoping the things that are irritating me are things only I will notice. Fingers crossed!

Please let me know what you think of both of them.

Also! Apologies that I've been away for a little while, but with good cause - managed to bugger up my foot good and proper and needed a few operations to get it sorted. Gory pics for those who are into that kind of thing below the cut

Good to see you back again again

Glad to see you still have that creative streak, I have to admit the EM4 miniatures do have a tendency of adopting the clown foot syndrome so good call on converting them.

I also have to say I actually have this mini and it's actually a really nice miniature.

As for Moss I think I recal you showing this before in some stage of construction, turned out looking great mate and the arm came out tops, as for any issues I can't see any springing out.

Now to the last pic WTF did you do to achieve that mess, I gather it wasn't a scalpel slip ........

Thanks LDD! It's a shame, they're nice minis, but those giant feet are one of the little things I can't just overlook.

Would have been one hell of a scalpel slip!

Nice job on the miniatures. Like the robo-arm.

and that's a good job you did on your foot too. Well done.
Hope it heals well.

@Baiyuan - Thanks so much! Glad to see you're still enjoying

Well, life has changed a lot and I've cut many ties to the past, but every now and then I have to act out on that suppressed conversion rage by coming back here and having a dose of the good old days when I sat at my desk all day concocting new characters for games I barely ever got to play.
Anyway your stuff is still uniquely stylish. I've never seen anything quite like it.

@Dr H - Thank you! It's getting better, albeit a lot slower than I'd like

@Baiyuan - Thank you again! It's a real shame you've slowed down on the modelling - I really enjoyed the intricacy of all your work, and could never quite fathom how you'd make a cohesive whole from so many small parts. I can relate though, playing with grown up toy soldiers needs to take a back seat to other life things. I've way less time for this stuff myself at the moment (first wee one on the way in less than a week now!), but I'm still going to try and do things whenever I can. Your praise means a lot though, so cheers.

Different kind of wee beastie today - a giant spider from Bones to grow my bestiary a little bit. I've not done much fur or scale, so I'm trying to branch out with a few different creatures. Quick and fun to try something different though. Hope you like!

Out of interest, has anyone got a small number of varying creatures painted up for skirmish games and the like? I like the idea of having an unpredictable pool of critters to throw at people, and I'd love to see examples of other people's zoos!

I've been doing something similar for Frostgrave for a while now on my blog. Maxxev however has some of the nicest.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

@Llamahead - Just had a quick look, you've got quite a variety! I'll have to have a trawl when I get some time. Cheers for the heads up on Maxxev, I'll need to check them out

@Alaricuk - Thanks a lot! Inducing mild anxiety is definitely a compliment If it's any consolation, I had to look at lots of gribbly pictures of tarantulas for reference. I'm not a big fan of them either!

@Kestral - Cheers for the kind words! Always time to start...

I've painted another spider, and resorted my whole workstation this week, so hopefully a bit more productivity in the next few days? Can never tell...

Struggled with taking pictures of this gent for some reason - just couldn't get the colours to come out right. One of my favourite Copplestone Scavengers, I've been meaning to paint this gent for a while. I love the awkward stepping pose, it's so characterful - I gave him a slight right leg wound to explain it. Was going for a fleecy collar look as well, which I hope came through. Let me know what you reckon!

EDIT: I'm also going to be really crass and point out that I'm selling a bunch of OOP guard stuff (and a few other things) on eBay with a sale that ends tomorrow morning. Feel free to have a nosey at my eBay page! /plug

Like the sneakers as well are they converse ? I have this mini some where as well really need to start painting my stock some day

Cheers LDD! Let's not start the fisherman thing again

The sneakers definitely have a converse feel to them - it was my wife who suggested the orange colour as a contrast to the rest of him, which I think came out pretty well! I've got a few other EM4 and Copplestone guys that have been in my pile of shame for a while; I think they're the type of cheap models a lot of folks will have impulse bought. I'm trying to power through a few of them without obsessing too much on cohesive colour schemes and the like. Much less angsty painting something I haven't spent hours working with green stuff on!

I should start a 'paint the damn things' challenge or something...

Ha you just reminded me of the fisherman jumper thing

I love trainers on minis don't know why but ye just bring a little more character to them I feel, tell the misses good call

I think everyone has an Em4 or Copplestone mini in their stash, I actually quite like them as they have a touch of old school to them.

As for the 'paint the damn things' I think this could work to motivate
