Nope. Would you prefer I give the buildings an Ork theme?

More progress on my last two Sanguinary Guard. All that's left is wings and some banners. Any suggestions on what to write on those?

In an earlier post I mentioned that I have some buildings bits on same bases. I decided to experiment with one of them here. I went with a Macharius orange with some white dry brush. Nothing to involved. What are your thoughts?

So my only critque is the guy on the right. Hes wearing a loin cloth. I go with a different color like white or a light leather look ( think parchment ). Any plans for that or leave as is?

I want to know how you got the tip of the sword of the guy on the left to glow red like that...

I had to go back up and look at that again, thats a really good powersword effect.

I like the building section on the base, the white drybrush ties it in nicely to the base, kinda makes it look a bit frosty.

This, I thought you had discovered how to do a glow effect without it being on the model!

No plans for the loin cloth. I'll mull it over.

HA! The glow effect was done through clever photography. Thanks!

Thanks GiraffeX. I'm glad you like it. There will soon be plenty more of those sections. That entire wall section was probably completed in under a minute.

That would be cool, but I can not claim such knowledge.

Love the palette. What other spot colour are you adding into the mix, if any?

@solar - yellow has been added.

@inmygravenimage - I don't have any other colors planned actually.

Today was a glorious day of hobbying. I had the day off, the kids were at day care, and I had a short list of things to do. By 9 the miscellaneous things were completed. By 10 I was surrounded by bits and tools and there was a hint of super glue in the air. I had the strong desire to paint the last few pairs of wings to complete my sanguinary guard, BUT THEN, I began to twitch and a ravenous hunger came over me. 6 hours later I had built, based, and primed 40 genestealers, two broodloards, and three carnifexes.

The new broodlord from the Deathstorm box already had an accident and needs repairs. Pictures will be forth coming once repairs are completed.

In between the genestealer madness I did put together the blood angel terminator captain from the deathstorm box and a librarian dreadnought. There are also a handful of random objectives that I primed.

Side note: The third carnifex was rearmed and despite me messing around with the devourers in all manners of different ways. It just looks silly. In fact, I find it so comical I plan on keeping it that way. It's like the special kid that you want to hang around because it feels like the right thing to do. Actually, that's how I became friends with moonpie. He looked so sad sitting all alone.......

Is it bag on moonpie week?

Forgeworld has that kit for the twin linked devourers. May want to pick it up at Gen Con.

I hope so bad that the genestealer cult rumor is true. Kind of... Looking at that swarm I would have to put out some serious lead.

I am very excited about the genestealer cult rumors. Tyranids need some allies.

@Solar - I appreciate the offer but I do not need tyranid buildings. Bring on the ork ones!

SO, despite my incredible urge to build some genestealers the other day, I have not been able to muster up any motivation to do anything with them. Mostly because I am unsure of where I want to go with them. The vast majority of my tyranids were painted probably 10 years ago. They are a simple white based force with orange trimmed armor. The only exception would be my trygon that I painted a few years ago, for some reason I made him purple with gray striped armor. Now, my force is entirely painted except for the newly primed guys from the other day. I have no desire to repaint them at this time and I don't particularly care for the paint scheme.

With that in mind, I am left to ponder what to do with my genestealers and carnifexes. Of course genestealers don't always have to match the parent force because they are based partially on the human genes and not the crazy nid gene that everything else is based around. This question is more geared towards the carnifexes. Should they match? Should I experiment and just say to hell with the old stuff? I do plan on getting more of the new nid monsters and drop pods etc. I still need to pick up a tervigon and a flyrant or two. What or how should I then paint those guys? Would it be completely ludicrous to have an all painted tyranid force with a variety or color schemes? Should I let my viewer audience pick the color scheme for each unit or bug?

I don't know. While I ponder these things I will listen to some dubstep, show tunes, vivaldi, and oasis, and hope that I can finish these sanguinary guard wings before my two kids wake up from their naps.

oh the humanity.. Ok ...

1. Deep breath.
2. So of all that the ' I don't particularly care for the paint scheme' seems the most pressing. Motivation and happiness over the look is something that you can cure with the right theme.

Sounds like you haven't found the 'right' theme yet. I suggest taking some time and play with the colors to get something you really like. Then paint a test from the new stuff. If it grows into happiness then you can go back and repaint. I think you'd want too have a cohesive look. If your not happy try again.

This is one of the reasons I stopped with my Nids. I wasn't happy with the scheme. Still searching myself. I think there is a lot of cool unique designs out there. Now find yours!

Some pics of te old themes would help.

Here you are. Thanks for the comment Solar. Do you have any tyranid schemes you are particularly found of?

I like your Orange an Blue.. Reminds me a bit Of Starship troopers.

My original theme was bone body with green internals. Shell was purple. Simular to your trygon.
I'm not sure where I'll go. Luckly I have no more than a few figs painted.

I have a lot of 40k armies. I'm trying to have a 'color' associated for each one. Necrons - black and white. Lamenter - yellow. Orks - rust, Eldar White and turquoise. CSM - Blue, GK metallic black. Either my tau will be Grey, AM - Green ... 30k Mechanicus - Red. Thant may lead me only purple stilll.... ugh!

OH-I Wanna get out of here

I did my nids in a more earthy, Zerg like scheme that I really liked. I know its contrary to your brighter colors, but it was pretty fun to paint. That said I did burn out on it. Only so many little, identical bugs you can do til you hate it.

Quoted for truth! I'm finding it difficult to get thru all the Ork Inf as well. That's why I jump around so much! Painting that is!

The dark blue and bright orange on the white bases really does it for me.

Hmmm, I hate to jump on any band wagon inspired by moonpie but for fun I may have to paint one up. JUST FOR YOU GUYS!

In other news, I am very surprised at the nice comments about my dark blue and orange tyranids. Perhaps I can use those colors but in a different way or a different shade. Something to make the new guys different.

Well, it's completely unrealistic as far as animal color is concerned (minus some birds & tropical frogs)... however it IS very striking. And this is 40k... realism has nothing to do with it.
