Just superglue, huh? Excellent. I'll have to give that a try. Thanks!

Forgive me now! Tomorrow I may no longer feel guilty...

I'll post some thoughts later, little one is dragging me away... All still quite WIP.

Your thoughts?>

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'll consider them overnight and see what I'm thinking in the morning. Everyone is due more gubbins and nicknacks, I'll probably end up normalizing shoulder pads and helmets and so on, I just wanted to get some poses to see what people though. Looking like honor guard? If not what could I do?

The 2h axe guy would get the blade replaced with a hammer head, but... should the company champion hold the thunderhammer like that, or should I try to get a somewhat more dynamic pose, possibly with the hammer in one hand and the other pointing or doing something suitably ballsy?

The standard bearer needs a relic blade, either sheathed in his current form, or would he look better with a different configuration of arms? The one arm to the side holding the banner while the other arm heroically points a sword or something?

The legs on middle one is the only one that I think doesn't match as nicely as the others. All the rest look great though! They'll look fine as honour guard once you bling them up a bit.

And I like the poses of the hammer/axe and the banner guy as they are. A sheathed sword on banner guy would be good.

Hmm the one drawing his sword kind of looks like he's trying to scratch his ass and the power armor isn't helping... Maybe with the bits I have and my skill level I should scrap the sword drawing aspect of the pose, at least for now...

The guy in the middle does look a little awkward. The rest of them look pretty cool though. The guy on the far right in the first picture is my favorite.

Middle due is undergoing revision, I agree with both of you. Far right, the really low stance with the power axe and aiming bolter? I like him too. Gonna fix the dude in question and see about finalizing any clean up and start gluing the main builds.

Ok below follows my potential fix for the most awkward honor guard (sounds like a children's book?). It's almost the same pose but how does he look better, looking down the field aiming his bolter, or staring coldly across his sword with bolter at rest? The first pose has him actively doing something, shooting the bolter. The second is a bit more passive but it's kind of in a 'venture forward in my direction brethren'/come at me bro, pose, which I kind of like too.

Thoughts?

I was considering a pose with the sword raised but I think paludrons just simply don't go upside down. Ever. For any reason. It's limiting my poses a little bit but it's the nature of the beast.

Yeah. Me too.

Huh had a thought, I'll see about putting one up later. For the other 5-man honorguard squad, may take some of my dark angel swords and either make them into kind of polearms to represent the relic blades, or maybe even go extra OTT with dual-bladed starwars/D&D swords

Have I mentioned that I might start collecting X-Wing? It seems fun though I'm a bit nervous about how easy it would be to buy the ships 10 bucks at a time... And all they really do is play games and take up space, no modeling time.

I like the sword pointing down. I really wanted to not like it but it is quietly menacing. I like it a lot.

I have some friends that play X-wing.They really like it. It didn't call to me. I did end up picking up the starter set of the D&D attack-wing because, well, dragons. I haven't tried it out yet.

I'm not sure if I'd like the aesthetic for attack wing but if the gameplay is similar its likely a winner. Slowly gluing my HG together.

Sword down guy looks cool, but will it get in the way when your in assaults ?

Maybe? But it's not very likely that I'll get to play much if any. And they'll probably be drop podding and dying in drove (there aren't enough of them to die in *droves*) so it probably won't even come up

I think just turning him sideways a little will mediate most problems too unless it's a large horde of similarly pointy units

So I had to do away with some 'active duty' troops, but I harvested quite a few fancy bits to further fuel the project.

And then we have the 'finalized' poses for the first two honor guard. Obviously they need heads, pauldrons, and backpacks... I think I may leave the packs off this time, they're kind of a pain in the ass to paint while attached. I'll sort out shoulder pads once I have things better figured out. I don't necessarily want them to match as a unit, I'm more interested in each HG having thematic pauldrons and nicknacks. I think these guys may be a conglomerate chapter/force, kind of like a deathwatch thing, so you may have former dark angels and wolves working together. Or maybe they're just a lot looser with their Iconography, not sure yet. Axe guy is getting a pair of those studded reactive shoulder pads or wherever they are. Sword guy needs something more ostentatious... maybe the kind with the extra ridge that goes up, or maybe with a cloth hanging down.

I also think I may go ahead and change the banner bearer... He needs a bigger banner pole and I'm not sure he'll be suitably dynamic to match the rest of the squad.

He needs a massive crest on the non-sword wielding arm shoulder pad sort of like those Gladiators in Rome that had one fully armored arm and one bear arm....

Got a photo? My google fu is apparently failing me =/

I was fully considering using a marauder arm from the fantasy kit but the poses on those are pretty static if memory serves.

I think a marine scratching his ass while scratching heretics' asses (er, off a kill list) would be just obnoxious.

The poses look solid. I must admit I still pendulum back and forth about whether or not I like tall-scaled Marines, but these are plenty cool enough.

In future, have you considered removing the hip plates from termie legs? I think that's the one bit that's still making me think 'short termie' rather than big marine. Mk VIII armour does have similar plates, so a few won't go amiss, but if you could remove them (don't know how hard it is) I think that might do a lot to their general impression and make them look more like PA marines.

Ehh... I kind of like how cute the chibitalon is though That's an interesting conversion, however.

I dunno para, I would have to do a bit of greenstuff repair and I'm not sure how confident I am about making it look good. Something to put under consideration for sure though.

I think I've got the base poses for 3 of them done, gonna find a hammer head before I try to finish the company champion, and I'm gonna redo the banner dude entirely.

Huh, I don't have five packs but I do have one with which to check things out...

For the vanguard veterans, what do you think, would this work? I thought the legs may look too heavy but just for short hops? I think they're fine. Maybe even makes sense as they've got more leg servos to withstand the shock of landing.

It's adorably chubby. It may need some SRS Bidness treatment if it's gonna get along with these new guys though. I've got extra drop pod parts so we'll see.

When I was making DA lists that's what I was looking into, a bunch of TLLC razorbacks or various other tank formations, especially with powerfield generators. Of course then they made those not extend past a hull, but you can still do it with a biker tech.

Something else you can think of, I hope you don't mind.

I never finished this as I didn't have plasticard for a new hull at the time. But, anyways, some ideas if you go the ST conversion route. Also, those are some intimidating honor guard.

GAWD I H8T YOU GUISE AND YOUR STORMTALAN CONVERSIONS! CEZE AND DEECYST!

Nah, keep them coming

My all time favorite thing to do with a stormtalon is the madcat/wolf/whatever you call it mechwarrior conversion.

Both of those have merit, lengthening it makes it look more like a proper plane thing.

It would fit on smaller DZ landing pads if I leave it short... but I'm probably only going to have the one so I may see what I can do to make it special too.

Intimidating is the look I'm going for so good deal. I think squad two is going to have some more of that probably-cool-but-maybe-too-ridiculous-to-be-legit action going on. I'm thinking of dual bladed swords for the four that will have swords I would try to make some kind of sword hammer... for the thunderhammer but I dunno... Maybe I'll just complete the highschool days duo and go with a cloud sword to match the darthmaul/dnd3.0 swords

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Yeah, it doesn't get much cooler than this for storm talon conversions

Too bad its kind of expensive in legs and bits.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Actually since I already own the storm talon it's probably less than $40 to do that. And I'm exaggerating I think. A leg kit from whatever those are from, I think the feet are separate, and maybe where they attach to the stormtalon. I may trawl ebay later and see about that.. could be fun
