Hi guys,

It's been a while since I've picked up my brush, but here I am again! My unpainted mini pile has kind of grown to ridiculous proportions and it was all a bit daunting for me. So to tackle the problem, I've decided I needed to split my blog up into small manageable chunks to keep me in the game.

So this blog here is mainly for all my CMon stuff ; their two main wargames Dark Age and Wrath of Kings, and there mini boardgames like Zombicide etc. Stuff I don't see covered much around here.

First step to getting my mojo back; clear my entire work space and all the unpainted side projects (sorry!). The clutter just makes it harder to stay motivated.

Here we are all ready to go

Next, I went through and catalogued all my minis to see what I'm dealing with.. Good idea to put together a spreadsheet to track it all.

A few pics of my stuff below:

Here's my box of all my dark age blisters

If I break it down I've got:

My Dragyri Fire Caste:

My Skarrd:

My Outcasts:

That's not including the stuff I've assembled already and is sitting on my shelf.

And an old pic of my Wrath of Kings stuff:

I've also picked up a couple of CMons board games inlcuding Zombicide and Sedition Wars which I picked up for cheap, mainly for the minis and terrain and nice bases.

So you can see I've got my work cut out for me.. but I will get through it all.

My current project will be a small Dark Age group based around Saint Luke.

I've painted up Saint Luke to get me started. I'm making some progress already!

Fairly quick to paint, my first time really, painting with metallics.. it's.. different. A bit harder to work with I think for some of the paints, and hard to photograph but I think the shine looks quite nice in reality, especially from a few angles. I've also kept his scheme very simple and dull to suit the setting.

His crew to follow soon.

Thanks for looking

That looks quite nice! Love the weathered metallic... red? Could you list what paints you used for it?

Only thing that might could use more love is the tabard cloth from the back. Really love the effect of this mini!

That is a really nice job on the St Luke. I'll be watching earnestly as I see a lot of the newer dark age stuff and really like the new concepts. Plus miniaturemarket has a bunch of the blisters in their store for dirt cheap that I may have to look at more closely now.

Love it! Good to see you back in action, though if it's anything like last time you'll have me very tempted to pick up some Dark Age stuff... so many projects, so little time/space/cash!

@ Ritides: Thanks! Yeah I would agree, probably need to go back and give the cloth a bit more definition. With the armour I used a base of GW Balthasar Gold, then gave it wash of GW Agrax Earthshade, and shaded the darker areas with GW Bloodletter glaze. I progressively highlight with GW Runefang steel mixed in with the Balthasar Gold and then final highlights with VMC Silver. Not much to it I guess, but the wash and glaze do dull the metallic effect on the Balthasar gold so it creates a bit more contrast between the highlights. The red just comes from the glaze

@ Theo: Yeah, Dark age has been coming out with some really nice stuff, shame it hasn't gotten more attention. I feel like CMon isn't doing much to push it, the last few months have been pretty light on releases. I do recommend you check it out though, Rules and everything are free. I picked up pretty much all my Dark age stuff above from my LGS that sadly closed down. So I got them dirt cheap but there's no one else I know that stocks it in Aus now. :(

@ Azazelx: Thanks! Glad you like it

@ Para: Good to be back again. I have missed it. Looks like you've been keeping busy yourself! I think your painting style would really suit Dark Age actually. And I hear you man, time/space/cash; you can only pick two (or even just one sometimes).

Up next I will be painting the Arsenals and Stingers for Saint Luke.

Maybe CMON is just waiting for a slow moth to kickstart them , got to hold back some goodness. Sorry to hear about your flgs closing.

lol Theo, I know you joke, but if they did kickstart it I'd be all over it

I may have spoke to soon though, it's Dark Age week on Beasts of War at the moment and then the CMon Expo this weekend as well so that's something. Hope to see some nice stuff come out of that.

Update: Saint Luke Arsenals

Mainly working on my Infinity stuff at the moment but got these two painted up quickly to go alongside Saint Luke. The simple colour scheme does speed it up a bit. The longest part to paint was probably the flesh but that's always a tricky bit.

I quite like their overall look. Sort of techy but still fitting the post-apocalyptic setting.

So just FYI, the feet are attached to these little rocky bases they come with but I cut them off, filed them down a bit to fit them onto these to match the rest. Happy with how they turned out, good enough from a table pov.

Saint Luke with his mini minions.

Up next the Stingers, which are the close combat counterpart to these.

Thanks guys!

More than 'good enough' mate, those are fantastic! The metallic red armour is superb, contrasts beautifully with the flesh tones.

Thanks guys!

I was actually having second thoughts on the scheme wondering if it would work for the little guys while I was painting them but once they were all finished, I kinda liked them.

Glad you guys like the colours.

So these guys were sitting on my desk for a while but I finally got around to painting them.

Stingers for Saint Luke finished!

The spears are pretty bendy :(

I think I'll go back and do a quick drybrush and weathering on the bottom of the cloaks/feet.

And the group shot with the rest of them.

Next up maybe something a bit lighter. With the Massive Darkness Kickstarter out, I think I'll get onto my Zombicide Black Plague stuff next.

Thanks for stopping by!

Recieved wave two of my Zombicide BP kickstarter

The box is huge! There were a lot of freebies during the campaign but till you have it all in hand you don't realize how much it is!

I'll need to grab a pic of everything later.

In the meantime, it's gotten me to finally start painting the minis. I wasn't too fussed about mould lines as such since they are more gaming pieces. The minis themselves are very nice though very small. Great quality though for a board game piece.

First up, a couple survivors from the base game. Painted these up nice and quickly, keeping things simple, quite happy with the result though. Looking at the pics there are a few touchups that could be done but they look fine on the board.

Here is Ann the Nun, she has bloodlust as an ability lol. Pretty badass.

And here is Samson the dwarf. He has big eyebrows and carries around a cute tiny anvil.

Will be painting the other base game survivors next and then onto some zombies! So many zombies..

Thanks for looking

Cool minis and great job on them so far. I really like st. Luke's armor. Are the scratches/chips/dents pre-molded or do you add them?

Wrath of Kings has some super cool miniatures. They are definitely on my list, though to be honest my list has gotten really long…

Cheers mate! Thanks for looking! The model has a lot of tiny scratches molded on, some are obvious, some are quite shallow so I'm not sure if it's intentional, but I think you do need to paint them and highlight them to bring them out. Agreed about WoK... and the long list... I will get around to them eventually..

That is, without doubt, the coolest Nun I have ever seen, great work. It must have been a mix of joy and despair when faced with so many new miniatures to add to the pile.

I know absolutely nothing about Dark Age but those are some excellent miniatures and you have really done them justice. Another vote for WOK stuff here, but with so much to paint and such quality any future posts are welcome ckig

Great work on the survivors!

I agree that the amount of figs you get with the Black Plague is overwhelming. I have been working on the core set since I got it in January. Still have couple of survivors and around 15 zombies to paint and on Monday the rest of my pledge arrived. Haven't dared to open the parcel yet as the amount of unpainted plastic is too discouraging

I have a friend in Melbourne who has me buy him stuff on Amazon and mail it to him, just shoots me the funds on PayPal. Something to consider perhaps. Not always the best solution, but in some circumstances (like with a Amazon) it's not a bad workaround.

I have another patch of walkers and runners on the way, after those are finished I'll add some blood effects to them.

I'll most likely post some pics of them after the blood has been added, they are nothing special as I've skipped as many steps as I can stomach just to get them all painted.
Survivors have had a bit more attention given to them, but there is just too many zombies in the set to do anything complicated with them. But just getting the core box finished will be a nice reward for the work done.

Your paint scheme is awesome for the Dark Age stuff. You inspired me to check out their website. I'm tempted to make a Necromunda Spyre gang out of some of their models. How do they scale against GW figures? They seems to be more realistically proportioned but around the same size. Keep up the excellent work, always good to see new stuff on here.

At least the older Dark Age figs are about the same size as GW figs. Man sized figs are based on 30mm bases so you can draw some comparisons there.

The scale tends to vary a bit through the line though so check the figs you are interested be sure.

Hmm, wouldn't shipping be really expensive? Haven't really looked at amazon prices. I can buy direct from CMon, the shipping is usually only $9 flat rate which is pretty cheap, but I don't get any LGS discount on the minis :(

I take it as the highest praise when I can interest others in the game. Thanks

As for scale. The new stuff is as you say, more realistically proportioned so they definitely look a bit thin. I will see if I can get some scale shots for you.

In the mean time, painted up a Strike for my Forsaken.

It was painted as a test to see how the colour scheme for Saint Luke would work on them. Think I am okay with it. It's a bit messy in some areas but my crappy photos obscures it a bit

This month am hoping to get the rest of the Strikes painted, and then the Zombicide Survivors as well. It's already July D:

Time to get cracking.

Looks awesome!

Anyone know the best place to get Dark Age in the UK? I've checked all the usual suspects (Wayland, Element, Darksphere, Firestorm) and the stock seems to be patchy at best, I'd like to get some, but don't want to buy into a game that I can't readily get hold of minis for.

Thanks Para!

I think there was some announcement a while ago about them partnering up with a UK stockist. EGS Hobbies? Something like that, I think they supply Element Games, though stock is a bit patchy as you say, it's always been like that even on their own site. Shame, I think they are trying to promote Dark Age as one of their main game systems along with WoK but it's just so hard to get it from anywhere.
