I have been working on my Eldar army on and off for around 9 months. I used to play Warhammer 40K alot in my youth but then had a long break before visiting various sites one day and deciding after seeing the high standard of minatures that I need to get back painting. I haven't played very many games since I got back into the hobby and have mainly focused on getting an army fully painted before heading out into the gaming world. As I am a slow painter and need motivating from time to time a painting army blog seemed ideal!

I've always thought the Eldar were an exciting and adaptable race and have always liked the sleek models so they were my natural choice for getting back into the hobby. The colour scheme I have gone for is based upon a group of Eldar originally from the Yme-Loc eldar but who have brached off the main craftworld after becoming dis illusioned with the artistic inclinations of their brothers.
I started with the Farseer and really liked the way the colour scheme worked (i will up load photos of him soon) and then immediately wanted to convert my own Avatar.

I dislike the GM Avater as I feel it doesn't strike fear into enemies the way the Avatar should. The forge world model is better but also expensive. I wanted my Avatar to be more beastial and aggressive than other versions. So I based my conversion on the Beastmen Doombull model as this model was perfect for the size and mass I wanted. The conversion required cutting and filing along with greenstuff for turning spikes into gemstones. Here it is finished and painted.Let me know what you think.

Hmm.
It's very different, and you've done good work on the spikes.

The pastel orange flesh is a little odd. Is that a colour associated with your craftworld? For me it undermines the terrifying bad ass look you were going for. I think you could do something more evocative of gods right hand birthed in blood.

The head sort of works from some angles, and looks very tacked on in others. Not alot you can do about that though unless you're up for some extensive scratch building/sculpting.

That's crazy! I love it, it's hella original too. He looks like a mean mother licker.

Good call on the Yme-Loc love too buddy. Another fan here.

plastictrees - Cheers for the comments, I had the same thoughts. Yeah the head was difficult because the Avatar head is so small compared to the Doombull. The orange skin is to tie it into the rest of my army, you will see when I post more pics. The skin is supposed to look like larva it looks better in the flesh than in photos. Was my first big conversion so I need to get better at the details. Was thinking of giving him black tatoos over half of his body to break up the orange a bit.

Here is my Farseer, this model was one of the main reasons I started collecting Eldar. I think it is an awesome model and really captures the personality of the Eldar. He is painted in the colours I intend to use throughout my force. The bright orange and white will make the force striking to look at and stand out compared to all the Dark Eldar that will no doubt be out there from now on.

Like the Farseer - not so keen on the Avatar, but that is just my personal taste.

Good to see more orange Eldar (even if they are grey and orange rather than True Lugganath Orange)

After completing the exciting stuff I decided I had better get some troops finished. So the Dire Avengers were purchased and painted in my craftworld colours. I dislike the fact Eldar aspect warriors are all painted differently and decided to have a consistant colour scheme throughout my force, however I will attempt to include some colour to my other aspects to link them to their chosen path.
They came out well and really stand out especially the Exarch.
I have some Striking Scorpions almost finished and some Fire Dragins ready to go so hopefully they will be finished in the next few days.

Like the colours on the dire avengers - very striking yet also fitting into the craftworld colours.

Very impressed

Did you go for a grey scorpion scheme? Or the traditional green?

Stuck with the white armour for the scorpions but gave them green hair. The white armour will be the main theme for the army. Need to come up with some reason for them painting their armour white instead of grey.

Perhaps they are fighting on a very hot world so need to relfect the sunlight to keep cool?

Or perhaps this is a small subsect of the craftworld? Hence their armour colouration is different.

Mabey they could be fighting on a very cold planet where everything is covered in snow and they wanted to fade right in.

Maybe they like it that way? There's no hard-and-fast rule really.

Yeah I considered the Ice Planet idea but didn't want snow on the bases. I like the Hot planet idea I hadn't thought of that. Another idea I have is that they have been sent out specifically to combat the Dark Eldar that have started to attack the Yme-Loc planets and they have white armour to distinguish them from the dark armour worn by the Dark Eldar. Sort of a hunter force.

Love your Dire Avengers and the Farseer, you've made a really sweet crisp white paintjob. However, I'm just going to be honest and say I don't like the Avatar at all. Like the others, you've done a great paintjob on it, but the model itself is just weird. The proportions seem out a lot, like the Avatar's head and the Wailing Doom are simply tacked onto a non-humanoid body. The FW Avatar would be a much better centerpiece to your army, and if the rest of your army are as good as what you've done so far, then they deserve a good centerpiece.

Here are my Striking Scorpions. I gave them green hair to tie them into their chosen Aspect but kept the white and orange army theme. I really like how they turned out and they are my favourite so far. I like the models the way they remind me of predator with the dreadlocks. I want a squad of howling banshee but im not keen on the models I want something more dynamic but after looking online cant find suitable models to convert. Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks for all your comments. I've had the same thoughts myself about the Avatar but I'm going to concentrate on bulking up the rest of my force before investing in another model. Plus the forge world Avatar isnt cheap! Next up are my Fire Dragons and their wave serpent. Due to having a few days off work I have made some good progress so hopefully have them finished by tonight.

Still looking awesome. Are you planning to do any of your aspect warriors in an orange/white scheme instead of your usual white/orange one? Like Fire Dragons or Howling Banshees?

The Fire Dragons have predominantly orange armour. I've included some yellow on their melta's to give them some individuality. Here's one that I've finished.

Looiin' good- the whites are crisp and clean, and the scheme really pops on those Scorpions. Great start, man!

As for the Avatar- love the non-conventional approach- you should try another conversion. You might try looking at 54mm model ranges for another good substitute Avatar body. Something from the Inquisitor range, perhaps? Try looking outside GW ranges too. Old Clan War stuff might be good, or even some of those 54mm Mutant Chronicles plastics that are all over after the game flopped.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Ok so the Fire Dragons are finished. Was nice to paint something with a bit of variety after painting white armour alot! The orange armour has turned out well. I already had the Dragons and Scorpions nearly finished when I started this blog so from now on the updates will be more spread out but I will try to keep them as regular as possible, Next up is a Wave Serpent for my fire dragons and I havent much experience of painting tanks so hopefully it will turn out well. I've included a group photo of my army so far so you can get an idea of what it all looks like together so far.

Savnock - Thanks for the advice on the larger scale models I will look into that. I've also considered using the Necron Nightbringer or deciever models to make a more streamlined Avatar but not sure how big they are.
Thanks for all your positive comments as well guys. The smooth white finish is a case of watering your white down everytime you apply a layer. 3 layers and its usually done.

I am glad to see a full army shot. People just dont do this often enough on dakka, but it really gives you a feel of what everything looks like together. Impressive work!

Here's the finished Wave Serpent. I spray undercoated it in white but it was still difficult to get a smooth even white finish on the large model. The orange was intended to be a mottled camo look and although it hasn't come out as clear as I wanted I'm still happy with the finished look. I do have the drivers plastic cover but I couldn't find it for the photo.

Thanks for all your positive comments, I will try to do an army photo everytime I have added a few new units. Next up are a unit of jetbikes with a suriken and viper support. Unfortunatley I bought them before the new dark eldar jetbikes were released otherwise I would've converted them. I have done head and arm swaps with some spare guardians to try and give them some individuality.
