Yep, that time again. Time to look back at the highs and lows of Year of Our Lord 2007. Remember only 27,993 years until the reign of the Space Emporer!
So what do we, the wise of Dakka consider to be the best and worst of 2007?
GW's best metal model?
GW's worst metal model?
GW's best plastic model?
GW's worst?
GW's best rules product?
GW's worst?
GW's best art book/fluff book/novel?
Worst?
Forge World's best model?
Worst?
Other company's best model?
Worst?
Greatest hope for 2008?
Greatest fear?

GW's worst metal model: Alith Ainar for High Elves.
GW's best plastic model: this is a very tough choice, but after careful consideration, I believe it must be the plastic Empire Wizard box. Even with the new Black Orcs, and the Baneblade, and all the new plastic hero kits, I think the wizards were best.
Rules: are you kidding?

GWs best metal miniatures IMHO have to be the new Terminator Librarian.
Worst miniatures metal wise from GW, have to be the Masters of the Chapter...bland poses, and pretty bland in the armour dept.
Best plastic miniatures have to be the Chaos terminators...massive improvement in scale, even though its not correct, and obvious bonus of posability.
Worst plastics, Chaos Terminators....bum details....what more can I say.
Worst book, has to be the Descent of Angels....
Best book, Brotherhood of the Snake.
Best minitaures from any other company....INFINITY, INFINITY, INFINITY! nuff said.
Hopes for 2008, well from GW, not much really....I have my Marine army pretty much complete, and have toyed with doing an IG DKOK army, but I'm now looking at creating my own army...so...
Worst fear for 2008, watch this space GW...watch this space.

GW's best metal model?
New Dark Angel Captain
GW's worst metal model?
That High Elf character with the sword and bow. Such a silly pose.
GW's best plastic model?
The Possessed
GW's worst?
Dunno.
GW's best rules product?
Is this a trick question?
GW's worst?
Codex: Chaos.
Greatest hope for 2008?
That someone at the studio realises what a cock-up they're making of the rules.
Greatest fear?
That they don't...

GW's best plastic model?
Toss up between possessed and WHFB Flagellants (they have SO many useful bits)
I don't play WHFB, so forgive me if they aren't 2007. I think they are, though.
I love the DA bikes, too (3 bikes & a DA sprue for $10 less than 3 bikes normally are... sure, you don't get any metal pieces... but I don't care)
GW's worst plastic?
Nothing comes to mind. I'm not "consumer" enough to know many.
How about ANYTHING LOTR because the games a money-pit?
GW's best rules product?
Codex: CSM (Yes, I like it)
GW's worst?
Apocalypse!!!!!
Forge World's best model?
I'm going to have to go with the Gorgon. It's a little bland, but that monstrosity is just SO impressive!!!
Then again, the little details in the Greater daemon of Nurgle are impressive. IIRC, it's a 2007 release, as well.
Worst?
The renegade enforcer with the whip. The enforcers are cool, but that whip will snap if you sneeze on it wrong!
Greatest hope for 2008?
That GW will finally get it right with 5th edition
Greatest fear?
GW price increases.

GW's best metal model? - Dark Angels Company Master (classic inspiration, decent pose, great detail and fun to paint)
GW's worst metal model? - Huron Blackheart (Captain Cortez reposed! Yay!)
GW's best plastic model? - High Elf Dragon (much more impressive than previous dragons and apparently a flexible kit)
GW's worst? - Chaos Terminators (even the studio models can't cover up the problems)
GW's best rules product? - Codex: Dark Angels (fluffy, fits the army, much better balanced than predecessors)
GW's worst? - Codex: Chaos Space Marines (good idea, but flawed execution with generic Daemons, poor layout, etc.)
GW's best art book/fluff book/novel? - The Dan Abnett omnibuses - a great way to pick up a collection or get titles you've missed.
Worst? - Can't think of any.
Other company's best model? - Infinity's Catgirl Doctor
Worst? - Too many to choose from.
Greatest hope for 2008? - 5th edition fixes the problems with 40K.
Greatest fear? - 5th edition just takes the Apocalypse/Mighty Empires approach and doesn't include any actual rules, but a half-dozen pages of suggestions.

Huron blackheart is a resculpt of the Games Day marine with powerfist, who is a resculpt of the Limited Edition Vet Sergeant with horse hair mane and storm bolter.

GW's best metal model?
Tie:
Shokk Attack!! (just making the cut in 2007)
Death Jester
GW's worst metal model?
Pick the ugliest HE character model.
GW's best plastic model?
Chaos Possessed
GW's worst?
Dwark Miners weren't terrible...but boring as heck.
GW's best rules product?
Apocalypse
GW's worst?
CSM book was conceptually strong (renegades), but fell flat in too many places.
GW's best art book/fluff book/novel?
Agreed on Abnett's Brotherhood of the Snake
Worst?
Having not read Descent of Angels, Fulgrim is mind-blowingly boring (I'm still reading it, and I started in months ago. I've actually read a few books in-between. It's not actively bad...it's just there.
Forge World's best model?
DKOK. Great range.
Worst?

Worst?
Pass and pass. I don't look.
Greatest hope for 2008?
I simply want a loaded Space Wolves release (even if it's late 2008/early 2009).
Greatest fear?
1) 5th edition solves none of the problems
2) The company gets bought and the alchemy is dissipated/dissolved.

Its simple, I liked the Chaos Terminators for the improvements mentioned, but at the same time I was disappointed by the detailing....I belive it could have been executed better. So the Chaos Termies were the best and worst plastic kits from GW ( IMHO)

GW's best metal model? Does the Weirdboy count for this year? If not, then the Kommandos to be sure.
GW's worst metal model? Either the DA Ravenwing guy on the hoverbike (bike good, rider not so much) or ANY of the High Elf pieces
GW's best plastic model? Baneblade seems pretty obvious, as does the Vindie, but I would argue that most of the LOTR plastic sets (the dwarves, rangers, and elves in particular) come out ahead. Decent sculpts, lots of character, good price, and lots of utility not only for LOTR but fantasy wargaming and rpgs.
GW's worst? Chaos Vindie. C'mon guys, take the aquilla off. That's just plum lazy.
GW's best rules product? Apocalypse. Sure, it's basically 2nd ed. redux, and does nothing to clarify the glaring rules issues, but it's a step in the right direction for scenario based gaming and a return to the attitude of rolling dice and pushing lead.
GW's worst? Chaos Codex basically made me give up all my Chaos plans ever, and Dark Angels killed my deathwing, but ironically, Apocalypse again, as I don't think it went far enough, and got saddled too much in 'gimmick' play (unlike Cities of Death, which will continue to be playable through 4th-5th edition, IMHO).
GW's best art book/fluff book/novel?
Worst?
...Whatever, man.
Forge World's best model?
Worst?
...See above.
Other company's best model? Oooh. Bronze Age Miniatures Dead Earth Wasteland Mutants, AT-43 walkers (especially the Red Blok Spetznaz and Kossak, the Fire Toad, etc. ), the Gamezone fantasy stuff, the Pig Iron Kolony stuff, West Wind's Secrets of the Third Reich SHS and walkers/tanks, Warmachine and Hordes new releases...they all tickle my fancy. There's just so much good stuff out there, it's hard to stay focused. Ironically, I found myself painting a lot of older figs this year: Foundry and Old Glory vikings, Sash & Sabre ACW, WOTC Chainmail figs, Reaper stuff. It just goes to show that the old stuff is often still the best. I'm most excited about the Perry plastics though.
Worst? As much as there's great kit being put out by small businesses, I'm endlessly amazed at the crap folks put out and that TMPers decide is 'good'. Pockmarked, poorly sculpted, soft details, etc. Sure, they're cheap, but sometimes a $1 really isn't worth the money. As far as name-brand stuff, though, the Rezolution figs have been a real mixed bag and the Mongoose Battlefield Evolution figs have been a colossal disappointment.
Greatest hope for 2008? Perry Plastics are a success. Warmachine and Hordes reorganize and consolidate a little, and start introducing new factions, AT-43 survives,
Greatest fear? That either a) all the little companies have a die-off and we go back to 1996, where GW is the only game in town or b) GW dies horribly, sucking down the smaller companies with 'em.
EDIT: I amend best rules to be Warhammer Ancients Legends of the Old West. The best stuff GW is doing is in the WAB area. Hope that's kept up.

Unfortunatly the worst thing GW has done is keep raising their prices, thus I don't care what looks good or what looks like crap. I can't justify buying any of it.
The best thing GW did this year is pique my interest back with a leaked Ork codex, we will see just how long that lasts.

GW's best metal model? That would be AT-43's Red Blok Sergeant Tymofiyeva (alternative metal version)...
GW's worst metal model? Anything produced for chaos
GW's best plastic model? Not really impressed by much this year... I dont play fantasy, but the empire wizard box is really swift.
GW's worst? so many choices....
GW's best rules product? That would be Rackham's AT-43
GW's worst? ahhh... GW values just drop by the second!
GW's best art book/fluff book/novel? Ummm Terry Pratchett's "Making Money".
Worst? all of them.
Forge World's best model? its all good.
Worst? see above
Other company's best model? That would be AT-43's Therian Omega Overseer Tiamat...
Worst? not as many as GW has produced, make no mistake.
Greatest hope for 2008? That AT-43 will be produced on time and that Racham will pull itself out of funk.
Greatest fear? That prepainted confrontation will kill rackham before I can get everything I need for AT-43
This certainly is the year that I really have been down on GW, and have been the least vocal about it. The reason being is that I no longer care after seeing what Jervis does to 40K. The company is out of business? What a shock...yeah I really just dont really care a whole lot. Apocalypse is fun, but overrated. Certainly not worth the $50 they wring out of you. It should have had the option for the free download if I didnt want to pay $50 for a hardcopy with essentially 10 pages of rules.
So apocalypse made me say "Neat", but too little in the way of "enthralling" to make me keep a close eye on GW for future "fun factor".
so many better well thought out options out there that make me wonder why I ever bothered with 40K in the first place...oh yeah now I remember, because it was once a company that gave us great games and didnt treat us like we were morons.

GW's worst? Wizers. Don't play Fantasy, but they just looked ehhhh.
GW's best rules product? Chaos Codex. I'm one of the few who really like the streamlined rules now.
GW's worst? -
GW's best art book/fluff book/novel? Horus Heresy visions compilation.
Worst? Flight of the Eisenstein was very slow and arduous to read.
Forge World's best model? Dark Angel Venerable Dreadnought.
Worst? The first Avatar. The legs were just in a funky pose.
Other company's best model? Don't buy anything else, but the AT 43 stuff looks pretty good.
Worst? Most anything prepainted.
Greatest hope for 2008? 5th Edition has some nice tweaks and GW continues with the Apocolypse style boxsets.
Greatest fear? 5th Edition creates more loopholes and vague rules than currently exist.

Toughie. I'm biased as I play DKOK now. But I'm gonna go with the Macharius (any pattern).
It's extremely cool looking, pretty good rules, and INSANELY easy to assemble for a big ass resin model.
Worst?
Eldar Wave Serpent Upgrade.
Honestly, who cares? Don't you guys have better stuff to cast?
Other company's best model? GW Fanboy here.
Worst? GW Fanboy here.
Greatest hope for 2008? 5th Edition DOESN'T get released.
Greatest fear? They will seriously bone the Vampire Counts (and Skellies won't be raisable anymore :( )

GW's Best/worst metal models: Unconvertable models are the suck. Stop making them!
GW Best rules product? Must be a joke, no one can seriously ask that in a banner year of utter tankage.
GW's worst? Yes. Hasn't been good for many years.
Other best model: Real dreadnoughts, made by the PP guys. Gee, 20+ new dreads in 2 years. GW, 1 dread, 20 years. GJ!
Worst model: Through no fault of their own, all Russian scout cars produced for FOW.
GW's best model: High elf dragon kit really impressed me.
GW's worst model: Oh boy, almost everything in 2007 was subpar. I really don't enjoy removing flashlines from the crotches of 500 miniature men, thank you very much.
Greatest hope for 2008? GW fires Jervis.
Greatest fear for 2008? GW promotes Gav. (Or Allessio.)

I couldn't give a flying fig for anything GW released this year.
Other company's best model? AT-43 Spetnatz Kollossus (Would have been Kharmans if Rackham had got their ass into gear...)
Greatest hope for 2008? AT-43 survives, and Pirates and Legends breathe some life back into Warmachine
Greatest fear? That CAoR's likely flop takes AT-43 with it.

For me I would say the best model of the year has to be the baneblade. It's a really well done kit that was hella fun to build and paint. I spent 3 weeks on mine and never felt any part was getting tedious and I didn't have any problems getting the pieces to fit or anything like that.
Best release in general would have to be Apocalypse. Really brought a lot of fun back to the game and even though I know I won't be playing Apocalypse games often, folks all around really seem to be enjoying it.
I didn't really buy a lot of new releases this year so that's really all I can think of. Compared to the last few years I think '07 was a pretty decent one for GW and I hope they can continue the direction they're going and continue to put out new stuff that the players love

Well I guess I can take a stab at this now...
GW's best metal model?
Were the harlies this year or the end of last? They always were my favorite of the Space Elfs. In fact the only ones I could stand. But still no metal this year seemed good enough to buy, I like plastic, and GW prices are too high to spend money on unconvertable models. The Commissars did make me smile though, so did the Ogryns. And the Khorne Guy swingng his axe was almost take home material.
GW's worst metal model?
Were the eldar Autarchs this year? They look like bad kitbashes, with so much stuff on them it's like a parody of GW cliches. But of course Huron Blackheart has to win that category. It's like someone brought Bloodstorm Ravenblade to life!
GW's best plastic model?
Well the flagellents were the only ones I bought this year so they get the not. Oh wait, I also bought the bottom of a Baneblade to redo my old Plague Tower of Nurgle. So baneblade wins. NO WAIT! I bought possessed too! And the new CSMs are a major improvement. So um... it's a tie.
GW's worst?
Empire gunners. I'm all about normal human troopers but these guys are insanely over the top AND incompatible with other GW humans (different arm layouts). So no.
GW's best rules product?
GW's worst?
Pass, played like 2 games in all of 2007. Up from 1 in 2006. And I was actually in the US for half the year.
GW's best art book/fluff book/novel?
Worst?
Again pass, didn't read or buy any this year. The last I got was the final Horus Heresy art book which was poo. Story only filled the first half, the rest were thumbnail reprints of the cards themselves.
Forge World's best model?
The Death Corps tank with the Vulcan MEgabolter really tempted me. So did the Mars Pattern Warhound Titan. Was that this year?
Worst?
Their prices :(
Other company's best model?
The Metropolis Line continues to impress, shame I can't seem to find them in the US.
Worst?
Mega minis original stuff really makes me cry. I got their $1 modern zombies and they're just yuk. Even by zombie standards.
Greatest hope for 2008?
Big comeback for Starship Troopers. I want my MI FLIERS!
Greatest fear?
5th edition will kill 40k once and for all. 4th edition and the new codexes seemed to bring it close.

GW's best metal model? The Harlie Shadowseer
GW's worst metal model? Dunno, theres to many of them.
GW's best plastic model? High-elf Dragon
GW's worst? Dunno.
GW's best rules product? Eldar Falcon Grav-Tank (for the player)
GW's worst? Eldar Falcon Grav-Tank (for the opponent)
GW's best art book/fluff book/novel? Anything by Dan
Worst? Anything by C.S.Goto
Forge World's best model? Dunno, never bought anything from them.
Worst? See above^
Other company's best model? The only other people I buy from are Shadowforge and Reaper. Both seem pretty good IMO
Worst? They also have some truly shocking models.
Greatest hope for 2008? PLASTIC SISTERS OF BATTLE! They need them more then any other army needs plastics. (Don't say Orks 'Cause they're comming soon.)
Greatest fear? Dark Eldar Redux. They needed a new codex since 1.5 was released but if the rumors I keep hearing are true then I don't hold much hope for them.

GW's best metal model? Epistolarius in Terminator Armour and a couple of others were pretty good too.
GW's worst metal model? Any metal/plastic combination kit. They all suck.
GW's best plastic model? Chaos Terminators & Possessed.
GW's worst? Not sure.
GW's best rules product? C:CSM. No more Iron Warriors - I loved the fluff and enjoyed it, but it was pure .
GW's worst? Everything wich has pointy ears in it. Not sure where to put Apocalypse in - I never read it, but I do not like the idea of 'bring what ever you want'. C:CSM - no Cult armies, you can shoot out of a Rhino with the full squad and field Kharn in a Rhino together with a squad of 1k Sons...+ the new Dreadnought and Possessed are very unreliable.
Other company's best model? Combined Army range for the Infinity game.
Worst? Only looking at the good ones.
Greatest hope for 2008? Codex:Inquisition.
Greatest fear? Not passing that oh-so-important exam in march. 5th ed. rules being a pack of crap worse than 4th ed.

Why fire Jervis? But I'm totally with you for the promotion of Gav & Allessio.
Though before promotion someone has to be fired...yeah...let that be Jervis.

On the topic 'Wich bases are supplied with my Terminators and how could I abuse it'...after turning into a debate on english language and the meaning of the word 'supply'.
