I'll use this thread to log my ongoing Praetorian 4th Project, and its growing supporting forces, rather then absolutely clogging the thread with pics of past work I'll just post a few of some of the older bits an pieces and what I'm working on currently, everything else can be found in my project blog, http://colgravis.blogspot.com

D Company Command Section with converted Captain and Standard Bearer,

Heavy Weapon conversion, Gatling Gun (Heavy Bolter), Lascannon & Autocannon

Rocket Tubes (Mortars)

Some Artillery (Heavy Weapons) Crews

Some Reglular Guardsmen

Leman Russ with Gatling Gun (Heavy Bolters) and Gatling Stubber (Heavy Stubber)

Mk1 Roughriders, these were my first attempt at sculpting in greenstuff and then casting in resin some complete models though I'd used gs for lots of other smaller projects previously, I'm now working on a Mk2 version.

1500pts of the Praetorian 4th assembled for last years GT

A Sanctioned Psyker, in a break for really big painting projects I've taken to do some individual characters, a few more various ones are on the way.

The Duelist, first model of a Kill Team, hes a substancial conversion based on the Mortar Loader model,

Captain Caine, a model built for a local stores special event game, Orks Drift, was my first go at sculpting a head

Most of the assembled infantry of the 4th, D & E Companies with a number of Heavy Weapons Squads, mostly without their weapons.

Current projects include a FW Malcador which is nearly completion,

A Leviathan Command Vehicle based on a pair of baneblade kits, cities of death buildings and rather alot of plasti-card!

A Warhound Titan, Venatio Accipiter, which I could'nt resist from FW

And also a new Roughrider Sculpt, and also a Cadian to Praetorian conversion kit, all of which will be made available through the Phoenix Club.

Only the torso's are 100% complete so far, one for the Cadian conversions,

and one for the Roughriders,

The Roughriders are in scale with the slightly smaller metal models, hence the different torso's being needed for otherwise similar models, I'm working on the heads and roughrider legs at the moment, which will hopefully be finished tonight all going well.

Anyway already gone on far longer then I'd intended so I'll stop there!

These are great. Solid paint all around, and some serious sculpting ability (that head is really great). Not to mention a bit of coin invested in such a large project!

Fav model out of the group is the duelist. Very characterful.

Looking forward to seeing your completed rough riders.

I saw your duelist on CMoN a couple days ago - really nice work. And I like how you've gone the gatling route on your heavy bolters - particularly on the Conqueror. I think I'd seen something similar in a WD ages ago, but it still looks so appropriate for the Praetorians. And your RR are very impressive, too! All great stuff!

Great stuff! I especially like the heavy weapons and crewmen.

Any chance of a tutorial on how you made them (the guns that is)?

Thanks guys

Cruentus, the Heavy Weapons are surprisingly simple, the Gatling Gun an Autocannon both use the classic Heavy Weapons carriage with fantasy 7 spoked wheels, the autocannon also uses the classic autocannon and gunshield while the gatling gun is the old Sentinel Assault Cannon. The Lascannon uses the Dogs of War Gallopper Gun Carriage, a plastic lascannon and a gun shield made from a section of track guard from the IG vehicle accessory sprue cut in half. The Rocket Troughs meanwhile are simply a section of plasticard, a plastic heavy weapons tripod and one bipod leg.

Little bit of progress on the new Roughrider Sculpts with the legs now finished.

I love it! I am going to have to talk some of my friends into setting up an Ork's Drift of our own.
I am thinking of starting up and early 1800's style Napoleonic Steam Punk army with IG, and this is definitely heavy laden with sweet, sweet inspiration!

Great to see your Praetorians over here on Dakka, I enjoyed seeing them on Warseer but lost track of them when I more or less fled the premises :S

I love the gatling gun swapped in on the tanks, really ace. The sculpted RR body is superb too, great work

Amazing work, as always. Your sculpting skill and dedication to the Praetorians makes looking at your artwork highly entertaining. Keep it up!

And that Leviathan - do you have plans to field it in a game? I'd love to see half-a-company of traitor Space Marines try and bring that beast down.

Unbelievable. This army is just amazing. If Dakkites keep this stuff up I might just start playing this stupid game again. Is that the FW titan? It looks plastic, not resin. Am I high?

Go for it Wehrkind, you know you want too

Arkion, yes I do once it's finished, the blog Bell of Lost Souls (http://belloflostsouls.blogspot.com) did an excellent package of Apocolypse rules for various vehicles, the Leviathan amongst them.

Stormtrooper X, yeah its the FW Mars, the colour of the resin can be deceptive as it varies from being very dark to very light grey.

A little update on the Cadian to Praetorian bits, the arms are still very WIP but it shows how the components will marry up to the cadian weapons.

Incredible army!! I love the uniforms, the epualettes, the piping, all of it. I always liked the idea of a napoleonic style IG, or victorian in this case. The vostroyans came close but you just blow that stuff away. Great work, and yeah that leviathon would rock as the centerpiece of an apocalypse game.

Thanks jedi

Its definately not finished, theres alot of rough edges, several gaps in the flank armour, the top of the tower needs its edges smoothing off and detailing, and the whole front section needs plates and its big arse aquilla, none the less the Leviathan is ready for action tommorrow in an apoc game.

Wow. That thing is big. It's hard to tell the details when it's primed up in black like that, though.

Yeah, that thing is going to be crazy when it gets painted. It's already quite breathtaking. I'm also very interested to see a side by side comparison of the Cadian/Cadian-Praetorian Hybrid/Praetorian models to see how it all comes out. Keep it up, very impressive.

Thanks guys,

@Death by Monkeys, true enough, and truth be told theres not much more beyond CoD building sections at the moment, theres alot still to do to it.

@celebaton, thankyou, though I'd have to recommend going and having a look at irfpio's Vosy one which is huge AND superbly detailed (complete with Arvus Light and landing deck!), theres also one which was shown on warseer briefly cast up in resin with superb interior and exterior detail, there are some really nice Leviathans out there

@ZamboniKnight, one word, Ordinatus

First set of arms are just about done with the stock etc added, just needs a little work on the inside of the sleeve and some on the hand, the low an loose pose seems to be fit perfectly lasgun sets B, F & G, annoyingly though set D has a slightly different wrist so I'll need to do an arm specificly for that set.

Just a couple of randoms, a quick conversion I've got on the way while I was unable to do anything else, a Leman Russ Execution Turret.

A while ago I happend upton this in a bag of bits I was given, the Plasma Annilator from an old Epic Imperator Titan.

I cut this down to size and built up a spare Leman Russ Turret with a few other bits an pieces from my bits box.

Still needs some guitar wire to give it some piping in various places, and a little filling, but otherwise seems to have come out alright I think .

And also a Arbite Proctor that I finished after starting it a little while ago, will do the rest of the squad eventually.

How many points of Praetorians can you field these days?

Again, great work. I love checking in on this army.

Destrado, it's a Midnight Blue basecoat, a Regal Blue maincoat with ultramarine highlight followed by a Midnight Blue wash (and yes I do hate GW are discontinueing Midnight Blue lol)

Arkion, actually yes lol, I'm doing a 1500pt Witch Hunter force for this years GT, though the Arbites are'nt actually part of it lol, they're just something I want to paint as nice models lol

Um unpainted, its around 10,000pts, painted is just shy of 2000pts lol, I need to paint more lol

I'm in the process of converting a Praetorian Cavalry Officer based on the Commissar Gaunt model, I'm done for modelling for the time being though he lacks arms which I'll add later as it'll be easier to paint some portions of the model first.

What colours do you think for the cloak and the sash around his waist? The horse will probably be white.

Absolutely love that model. It's great to see such a dynamic pose, when all the cav models GW makes look like they've got a rod shoved up their... err, saddles. Great work on it! I'll leave the color tips to the other paint wizards
