Oi! Whose Da Best!?

It's time to vote to see who wins the Dakka painting challenge.

The theme of this painting challenge was:

. . .all 'bout those big baddies that we love so much. Pick yer fav Ork, Orc, Troll, Ogre, Ogryn, Barbarian or other big, mean and nasty model, and give 'im some paint!

So with that spirit in mind, vote for your favorite model(s). Please note that you can vote for all the entries you like, not just one!

Ok folks. Sadly, we jumped the gun by a few minutes posting this voting thread, and unfortunately we then had a last minute entry to the contest who did indeed get a picture submitted before the deadline.

That means this new voting poll was started to make sure everyone all entries get a fair shake. If you voted in the first few minutes the thread was active you'll now need to re-vote.

Sorry about that snafu, and please resume voting!

I was tempted to go for old school ork for the nostalgia value (plus it's nicely painted) but I chose the Ogryn.

/Also Grot Boss is pretty hilarious.

grot boss is a nice idea! would be interesting to see it go a bit further with a snotling and warboss. Might be a bit too unelievable though. I also like the ork boy, the gun details very nice. Good luck to everyone!

I'm a fan of the blending on the vampire wing, the subtle
skin of the Ogrun and the deep shading of the Tharn.

Love that vampire base...

The Ogryn is really sharp looking! Only something about the grey highlights holds me back. I think the grey highlights and wear marks on the armor should either: Have another layer, up to white at extreme points. Tone down the grey so the lines are not so think.

Ogryn or Ogrun? The Ogrun looks strangely familiar for some reason

I like the grot boss too. I think a better picture would have maybe done it justice.

The Ogryn looks Golden Daemon quality to me, not that I am an expert.

... plus a smattering of on the side.

I am shopping around for Rogue Trader era Eldar support vehicles and units. Those Wraithguard/ Wraithlord drones, specifically.

As they say in the marines ... "Gogogo!"

I think I voted for four! I think there are a few that could have benefitted from beter pictures but that's easier said than done, and is a whole other hobby!

Multiple votes aside, for me it was between the Ogryn (5) and the Tharn (14).

Then I noticed the Ogryn has an iris AND pupil... and the iris is highlighted. Decision made.

I'm going with the Ogryn for the same reason DFo is- the eyes have it! Plus the chipped paint on the armor rocks.

Yeah, the painting on the Ogryn was pretty boss, but that is one of my all-time least favorite skulpts sooo I gotta pass on it. Really, I liked the old Rogue Trader ogryn better dispite them all looking like they were pinching off a turn. The 2nd edition were a lil less favorable but still better than these. Now... ugh, what were they thinking?

I've got a hunch Malfred painted the Ogrun Bokur. Other than that, no idea.

Well then, guessing games!

I've got a hunch grey_death did the ogryn, as he's got an eye for those photo inserts of particular up-close detail areas that aren't fully exposed in the single, frontal shot. That, and the cloth/skin tones look like his style.

I'm gonna guess the Grot Boss is Lemmingspawn's work. Clever idea, clean execution, and special attention to base details. Spoiler (highlight to read):
That, and a very familiar marble countertop...

That's all I've really got for guesses. But I really have to say, I was 100% ready to vote for Ork Boy (#6), the skin tone is great, and the grimey feel to the gun and armor fit the theme so well. Then I realized he had green ork flesh colored fingernails. Missed it by *that* much! Picking out the fingernails and perhaps the gauge on the side of the gun would have really put it over the top, as the picture chosen to display strongly features both those elements.

Great work all around though, some very excellent examples of what you can achieve in our hobby!

Love that pic of the ogryn with the bayonet in your face! Old school ork was very nicely done, lots of love for the orks but thats to be expected for this category. This might be getting me enthusiastic enough to participate next time!

I 2nd this - the colours and style are similar to his storm troopers, and the lens over the eye is remarkably similar to the ones on his Tau comission.....

as for the others...havn't got that far, although the orc in blue mega armour looks familiar, I'm sure i've seen those colours used before on here somewhere.
