I see them as a little of both annoying and a welcomed face. However I wish many many young 'uns play something else besides a spess mahrines army. I find that many gw redshirts push the poster child a little too much. I'm a IG player and many young'uns would scoff at me thinking their space marines can wipe the floor but I just lay a gun line and done! the current demographic at my gw is:
15-younger year olds----- space marines
16- older // // ------------------xenos and non space marine army
gw redshirt---tau and tyranids

I have recently started playing regularly at a hobby shop and because of my recent experiences I had to vote "Could be Better - Many are annoying but we were all like that once". I don't want to make broad generalizations (so obviously I am about to) but it seems that players 13 and under are the players most likely to show up without a codex, rulebook, templates, etc. This can be a little annoying and I do my best to not be rude, because for the most part these younger players genuinely want to learn the game.
I don't mind playing with a younger player even if they are still trying to grasp the rules (Because I am always coming across rules I was previously playing wrong) but all I ask is that they bring the basic materials needed to play a game and not try to turn a single battle force into a 2000pt army by proxying large vehicles with matchbox tanks and units with random toys found in their room.

I’m a kid and I think my kind needs to be exterminated….some kids are soooo annoying! But adults you guys have to admit that you have seen other men and women being annoying to kids and other adults, right?
One time I brought the hottest girl in my school into GW (yeah I know, some of you think wrong move!) she wanted to be my girl friend and before that I wanted to at least show her my “nerdy” side everybody mentions at school. So I bring her to GW the employee is showing her how to play and paint…..I thought my dreams were coming true, because she liked it! (she hated to admit it though) I saw it on her face how she enjoyed it, until this tall skinny FU*$K 30 year old dude came up to us and said the things that made me in raged! He said “You are the first girl I ever seen trying out this hobby.” I even remember the employee face palming his face. After that…….Even though she is my girl friend and she accept me for my interests she never wants to step in GW again ):

Well, Wargamers are not Jedi. People can become wargamers later in life.

On the one hand, yeah little kids are (generally) annoying to interact with as far as the hobby goes.
On the other hand, we were all like that once, & if you don't at least show them tolerance, their experience of the game will be negative, they'll stop playing and the hobby will suffer.
They may be annoying now, but chances are, one day they'll be worthy opponents. Its all about deferred gratification.

Ghost of Greed and Contempt

Im 16, started at around 12, but I have always been mature for my age. I think it does depend on the "kid" in question, a few weeks back I met a kid of about 8 who was really into the hobby, y'know, all wide eyed at the display cases and so on, and he was well mannered and respectful to everyone in the store. However, previously I have seen the flipside, the kids who have no interest in the hobby.
This was during a game with a friend, these kids were on the next table with the store guy trying to explain the rules, they were more interested in making loads of noise and throwing minis around.
New blood is good, but only when the "newbies" in question are the right kind of person.

I saw the option 'Exterminatus' and clicked it before the impulse could be screened through my brain for stupidity. Not that I'm actually against kids or anything, I'm a neutral on this issue.
But you can never have enough Exterminatus. We should do it on some of the more stupid-named English towns sometime...
On topic, I think Dark Apostle 666 above me has the right of it, pretty much.

I happen to love the energy the younger and newer gamers bring to this hobby, I have been playing since around 2002 and I still own my first painted model. But yesterday i helped our new guy paint his first ever model, an ogre bull, and he was so proud of his work and all. I believe its that energy that keeps this hobby alive.

Being year 12 (if that means anything to anybody) our job is to hate little young year 9 and younger. I think that 13 and younger is a bit to young to play 40k. they just end to get it handed to them every time they play. I started last year, we dont need a swarm of little kids because they are really developed enough to make good desisions yet. If you were playing a 2v2 game, you would have to spend the whole game plaing for them so you dident trarp it.

I´m 16. I started WH40K When I was 8 or 9, I dont remember. Only people I annoyed were my parents.
There´s 10 years old kid in the group, playing with him is.......well....irritating. He asks all the time what he should do, he doesnt remember the rules and such.
I´ve met other kids and they were fine, so they arent that bad.

You can't limit annoying people to their age. I'm aware the most people 13 and under can be immature, but at one of the wargaming clubs I sometimes attend there is a 19 year old who is worse most of the "young people". I'm sure there are some 30+ year olds who are the same way as well.
So should they look for another hobby? No, most of them will mature and become good wargamers in the future.
I'm 20 years old, for the record, about to turn 21 in a month and a half. (So close...)

people who vote "Kids are wrecking the game" in MO is just silly. People can say all sorts of stuff about them (Us), but in the end there are as many grown men/women arguing, bad paint jobs and are overall just jackasses. Kids are what make the hobby, specially 40k, they bring in most of the money (their parents money really...but still....)and they/us love wargaming as much as a grown man/women does. We like playing and painting with little spacemen, and its not fair for other to say otherwise
and For peoples information, I had to intervene in an argument during a tournament (Im 16 by the way (Almost 17)) with two grown men arguing over the Reserve rule, Grown men....arguing over little plastic space men

I'm 15 and I have a little brother that plays and he's 11 and YES he can VERY annoying but yesterday I played with two kids about 12-13ish and they knew the rules better than I did and were nice to talk to but ya had a ALOT of energy. I think that this poll is a little bit biased cause it depends on which little person you play with cause my little brother as both friends that are walking on the ceiling and some that are tooo quite. But ya I can see where you guys come from cause it is nice to play with somebody your age or on he same maturity level.

Call me old, but I define a youngin' as anyone not old enough to drink. We have a couple in my local gaming club, most of them aren't too bad, but a poor grasp of the rules along with a seeming endless pile of caffeine- and sugar-induced mania permeates these kids.

I don't find kids annoying when I frequent GW. I find time to chat with everyone when I'm in store. The store does have a policy of over 18's only on club night which works for many people. I guess I'm just more tolerant of the younger gamers. It's probably because I have kids around that age so I find it easy to chat with them and help them learn to play. I think that for most people in this hobby they often forget where they came from... We were all young once...

Young gamers are fine (Some annoying, some not. Completely depends), so I voted "Not Bad." However, in terms of the hobby, the catering to entering players with Space Marine spam I think hurts the hobby for people not playing those armies. I have no problem with Space Marines in fluff, but when the crunch is (in some cases blatantly) slanted towards making not just a point&shoot army, but also allowing said army to win without much understanding of the game or tactics ( SW, I'm looking directly at you), it hurts the game for others. I understand GW does need to keep selling kits, and pasting your first opponnent does help your interest in the hobby, but I personally played as Nids my first time, got pasted, and loved the hobby even more.
