I'm stepping these guys up and hoping to get a lot more done this week than previously thought,
I just have to finish assembly on the 2nd tac squad do flames on the LR's exhuast before Miss Dee explodes and convert up the dread.
These guys are almost done and I'm exteemely happy with the turnout so far.

In other news I have a preview of the project that will follow the Legion in the next few weeks.

An Austrlaian armed forces themed Imperial Guard army.

It will be an infantry army cashing in on the mighty power of "stupid amounts of flashlights eventaully burn something"
and will again have many custom parts, torso's heads and vehicles... should be fun.

This project will take over once the legion have been completed and at least for the moment replace the Skave as my focus army (the skave having 2500 points at thier desposal as is even if some is partly under construction, and not saying the Skave project will finish just that the updates will be slower as most of what is left is custom stuff and takes longer to do and do again in large
amounts).

Okay, while i have to love the nostalgia that seeing all these old models is giving me, i must ask: where did you get that banner? its awesome!

"Faith in All Things Imperial" (the latin wording on the banner).

That's easy I make them, if you need one let me know? (they take about an hour to do if I ahve all the artwork ready) My plan is to make the decals digitally and have them printed to water
transfer sheets for use on the models.
(and if that doesn't work then I just made my life a living hell trying to redo that on a miniature banner).

Vitruvian XVII wrote:Australian IG, you mean Penal Legion??....

We prefer the term Lawfully challenged conscripted labour force thank you

But in allfairness yes there will be conscripts in the amry, I'm trying to do a mostly non mechanised IG army so they are kind of hard to avoid, they will be the 111th Water transport Devision.

The idea ratling around in my head is;
Guardsmen = 31st Infantry
Stromtroopers = SASR, Z-troop
Heavy Tanks = 11th Armored, MkV Centurian tanks
Sentinals = 1st Recon, Dingo light scout cars
Conscripts = 111th Water Transport Devision
Heavy weapon Teams = 1st Artillary (will aslo include any bombardment tanks)
Snipers/special weapons teams = Roo's (Commandos)
Command Squads = Logistics Devision

I have all the actual badges for these units (from the real life units) on my system waiting to be made into transfers I really want the army to feel organised/regimentalised you just don't get that feeling with marines or orks or most armies nothing overly feels connected, but the guard give you that oppertunity to make a completely connecting and ordered force which is completely opposite
the way I normally approach an army build.

Now if anyone has any suggestions on how to make guardsmen wearing shorts I'd be keen to hear it?

Cool I like the way your going with this and I look forward to seeing some pics, based on your previous posts it's going to be a good one

The reason I was thinking along the lines of Max was whilst looking through Forge World I saw the Elysian Tauros Vehicles and I was thinking they'd look cool with a black paint job

Yeah the Elysian minis are great, I have been looking at them but I think I'll go with some kind of custom buggy just to keep theme, but I'll be drawing sominspiration form the Ely gear for sure.

NP be my pleasure to make them for anyone who needs.

@ Dee yeah Maximini do make some I'm thinking about it the only issue I have is they are a bit guant rather than the stern look they should have. I'll mess about making a few and see
if it works that way if not I'll buy those heads for sure I'm also looking at the torso's they have for the IG which are covered in the packs and bags like actual combat units do.

Ok finally back on track, Dreads are together. I still need to do the damage on the Libby dread and then paint of course and this weekend I will be getting some more plastic tubing to make the barrel for the Venerable dreads Autocannon.

The Ven dread is a mash up of the Tempalr Forge world dread and the nutbar bloodangels dread.
Where as the Libby dread minus the head is pure kit. oh and I added draping cloth form the Skaven plague monks box..

Sorry about the crappy pic

Actually my biggest thread issue is this vanishing post on new page error, when you post something and somewhere under the hood the forum stuff up and fails
to createthe new page and in doing so deletes your post. I've had it happen 3 times on Dakka and once in the past on a gaming forum.

Cheers mate I'll dig out my dodgy light box for better pics in the morning, in the meantime I was unabel to resist painting one of the dreads so.

Need to do the base.

The gaps in the front armor panel will have fire coming out of them once I can remember where the hell I put my GS.

Anyone know any good tuts for painting dented or beaten metal?

I want to do the shield on the leg in metal tones (I've roughed the surface up to look like it's been hammered) and wanted to basically paint it
as though it's taken a heavy hitting like beaten brass only steel.

The idea behind it is that these guys don't have the facility to get a good repair if any at all so they are heavilly damged and beaten/riddled with
dents and battle scars.

I have found where the kids hid my GS so it's flames tomorrow, followed by Akubra hats on guardsmen heads, as I start getting things in order for the new army.

Ok so they way he went together is feet, legs, torso and back are all Forgeworld.
I have removed the front panel from the forgeworld dread, taken a section away and inserted it into the plastic dreads body front.
The palstic front was then pinned ot the FW reson back and to cover any misses and gaps I used the new roof rack system thingy from the BA
dread kit (which gave him a beefy look anyway).

The arm joints are too big for the plastic housings and so have to be trimmed and then pinned to fit.

I had to use the FW hip, because at least with this kit the forgeworld legs do not match up with the plastic hip/torso.
(the FW one is peg and hole situation where the plastic kit is a rounded open ball socket).

@ Dee I'll give it a shot.

Stupid question time.
I got hands on witht he Stormraven the other day (I'm still tempted to get one) now this guy may have put it together wrong (it looked just like the pic on the box)
though I'm pretty sure it was right, the bundle of bolters that go on each side can't shoot straight?

What I mean to say is, when you rotate them to flush with the hull (facing the front of the flyer) they do not clear the armor panels or grav jets. (LOS is blocked by them)
So in theory can only shoot to the sides or they blow there own engines off, anyone else noticed that? oh and whats the point of side doors if you just cover them with
these dodgy mounted bolter anyway?

(No I don't know the rules for them I missed the WD and don't as yet have a BA codex, it's probably all explained there but it's just a random thought).

like I said he could have put it together wrong but if not that's a pertty big design flaw and to me makes the kit feel rushed.

Sorry for the ramble it just came to me as I was thinking back on it.

Havent put mine together yet, but you exchange some exit points (the doors) for more guns. Should be able to shoot straight, but I dont have one on me (would be odd at work).

Ok so group photo Time.

Just about everything is painted now and I'm down to mostly assembly (minus the liby dread), I picked up a nice matt Varnish yesterday that is finishing the mini's off nicely.

oh and again crappy photo's my lightbox is not big enough for everythign at once and I don't have enough portable lamps in the house to fix the lighting.

Here's the new dread again with his base almost done (have soem touch ups and burn patterns to put in the grass).

Still really happy with the army commander he just turned out a treat.

Oh and question, should I give the commander a jump pack I have some single engine ones laying about and a decorated twin (from a bloodangels charater)?

I guess it depends on how you want to use him. I nearly always give my commanders either jump packs or terminator armor if possible, as either makes them more effective in combat than normal marine armor.

Hey Santo, loving the legion, some really great work here.

I see you are using BA as the rules, but I was thinking (while in the bath the other day), you could represent a LotD force really well with the new GK codex.

a) They are both supposed to be an elite, low-model army
b) All GK have an invulnerable save (like LotD)
c) They can all deep strike (mysteriously appear from nowhere at time of need)
d) They can use pretty much everything you have already
