Thanks, mate!

@El Vic:
Oh, what a cruel world! But yeah, fair enough
I hope so and yes, Truescale is something that worth a shot, yet, I dream to do "not Rhino at all". The time will show...

Ah, almost forgot... The Pic happened:

very good looking mate... the NMM on the backpack looks very good to me...
the subtle ligts/shine on the cloak is simply ace!
and you just simply gotta love that gem on the pad...!!!

but i wonder...when will you start with something like OSL? it is way out of my modus operandi for at least the next ten years...or maybe even never^^ but i think someone with your latent should give it a try...just saying... would mentioned to a lesser painter...

Stain turned out awesome! I really like the colors used on the entire plasma gun and the goggles really help set him off and make him unique.

Not that I was trying to make the backpack NMM, but well...
I mostly proud of the face with the wrinkles painted on the flat forehead and two small buttons (green and red) on the backpack with lens effec on them (I should make a close-up shot on those).
On the OSL... I'm not sure. It sounds fun, but I'm really not a big fan of this effect for some reason - sounds way too dioramish for me, if you know, what I mean... I should try it anyway one day.

@Moltar:
Many thanks!

i think i know what you mean by dioramish... why i am nagging about that issue is: whenver i see a plasma weapon...then i imidiatly think of OSL... but then on other weapons mstly i am not instantly reminded of that effect...

now that you mentioned his frown i too see it and i have before overlooked that... wow... good work... it is a feat to create a 3D detail effect on a flat surface!

Thanks for attention, friends!

Today is a notable day of my modelling "career"... At long last, Inspired by many great sculptors from this awesome forum, I found some balls to start on my very own sculpt!.. I suppose it will be a long and hard journey, but I did the main step already - the first one... Anyway, enough with my mumbling, let's get to the point!

The overall style behind the figure is highly inspired by SW:tOR, mixed with some WH40k stuff and what else will come to my head. Here's some pictures for you to get the idea:

And that's what I've done so far:

I've cheated a bit and used worthless for me DE torso to get the initial shape and save some GS:

Mr. Ballhead slowly getting some meat:

Moving on:

As always, any C&C much appreciated!

The wires and tubes between the armor look good too! I am impressed!

Cheers! Your example have motivated me to start this affair
I used the ball to make the sculpting of the collar easier, but it appeared that a cheerful face made the overall process muc more fun, so the guy got a personality and a temporary name - Ballhead!

@MrMerlin:
Cheers!

By the way, looking at my forum status I've realised that Ballhead can be some kind of an elite Mechanicus Commando. I like how that sounds... So be it! I officially call this project "The Implacable Skitarii"!

wow...how long has this idea been brewing in your ballhead?^^ nice concept so far, have you more than pics to tell us what and who this will be? some fluffy details maybe?

the proportions look very good already...even at this early stage you have put a big amount of detail to this cool model...if this pace continiues i have no doubt this will be over and done way quicker than we and you would like it to be^^...i sense a very big wave of creativity these days here in these parts... i think we do all a great job to inspire other modelers for new projects!

and i really like that cheery lil ballhead pic... if your timnon avatar pic wasn´t so cool already i would ask you to use the ballhead instead... but i asure you i like timon even more...^^it suits you so well^^

Thanks everyone for your attention!

@El Vic:
Well, for a very... very-very-very long time. And it's still brewing
Basicly, I stick to my virtual Army List I posted somewhere above, but I just can't stand making an SM army... Probably I got tired of those... So I want to dedicate my sculpting to Explorators of Adeptus Mechanicus, as it's closely related with Archeology and Explorations, with adventures somwhere on the borders of the Galaxy, with the scavenging on the ruins of older civilizations, with discovering new worlds and so on, and so on... I think you got the idea.
A Mechanicus style with Post-Apocalyptic feel (WH40k is very Post-Apocalyptic for me - you know, all this pre-Heresy and 10k years long decadance...), a drip of Space Western and an aroma of Cyberpunk - that's what I'm aiming for.

And as this one is my first ever attempt on sculpting the human figure, the proportions bothers me more, then anything else. I want this guy to be slightly more realistic, yet with a grotesque and cartoonish feel of WH40k.

Indeed, this board gives a lot of food for imagination along with great discussions and other stuff.

Haha yeah, I was thinking to set this smiley ballface as my avatar, but for a second thought Timon is just more awesome, though he is way too crazy even for my taste

@Capitansolstice:
Aye, I keep the Halo style in mind. I'm not going to make such a helmet for this guy, but I want to use similar appearance for another project.

Not much been done for the past few days, because I've been sucked into the MLP madness (it appeared to be an incredibly good show!), but I have some pics to share anyway:

The sword seems to be rather bulky for the figure, but I will make his ankles much bigger and with all other details I'm going to add (the coat and backpack), the weapon will become more in scale, I guess.

And some more pics to show the source of my inspiration:

I think you got the idea.
...if i say no...will you write more about this? i am hooked already and would like to know more about that storyline in that big round head of yours^^

and i like that stance of your model... very dynamic but at the same time not overdoing it... like a true warrior, he prepares for combat, but he doesn´t waste energy for grandstanding!!!
one thought of mine tho...get rid of that sword...by all means... it will only hinder you substantial... i think you are capable to do your own version... and i think this model would look better if it has a coherent through and through vision...your vision that is... and for this i think you need to do these things on your own...more work tho but you already feel it in you that this would be the real path!

oh and another thought... you went for a more anged look on the legs... somehow this is not often to be seen... i think the look should be thus used too on the upper body too... like the now more rounded shoulderpads plates and the breastarmor... i think this would make it a bit more straight looking... if that is indeed still possible...

@El Vic:
Ah, well... The storyline in my big round head is very rough yet - so many different ideas without an order, but the concept is dancing around the company of adventurers and explorers, decently geared and armed with a lot of high-tech stuff... An obvious way to write such a company in 40k universe is to make them somehow related to Adeptus Mechanicus, or Explorators, to be exact. And that's what I think: do I ever need to link my sculpts with 40k Universe anyway?.. Quite a dilemma it is!

The position of legs and body was inspired by the stance of Sith Warrior from SWtOR. I posted a picture above. I'm still toying with the left hand... But seems like I've got a nice idea - to make the left hand so, as he is trying to choke/push someone in front. And yes, you're totally right - I will make a special weapon for this guy. Probably it will be some kind of a power sword.

As for the angular shape of his armour... I'm still thinking about the shoulders: do I want to add this part at all? I know, shoulders makes everything looks cooler, but... May be only one shoulderpad on the right hand? A matter of discussion.

Anyway, I'm slowly walking my path:

This DE head is only for the scale.
I'm not completely sure about the base... Also I've started making upper part of the coat... Probably I should lower the folds on the right part of the torso to get more dynamic look.

oh.... cyborg samurai...nice indeed...

as for your recent updates... very good looking... i congratulate you for going the way of making your own weapon! thats a good decision! also i like how the coat is developing... a lower part will follow? the coat will also solve the shoulderpad issue as with the coat i think the shouldpad is obsolete...

as for the base... i think there are two things to consider for now... one...the spring thingy you have in the middle? is it truly needed? what will it look like painted and what is it aynway...any function you have in mind for that? or is it just there for general cluttyness?

also second:
you might face uncertainty for the base because of the color... for now the rather light color of sand and cork detracts a lot of attention from the mostly green blob of the mini... don´t get me wrong...the model looks stunning...but since you work with the model for quite some time already i think it might be a case of colorunbalance now... so here is my tip: if you are satisfied with the base as a concept, then get it primed there... one base color and this might help you again to conecentrate on the mini and don´t get disatratcted by the base...

if that is not the case...forgett my musings...

did i say great mini?...well it is^^ and the head looks quite fitting by the way^^

cheers, vik

Aye, I'll start doing the lower part of the coat as soon as I'll finish the legs and toes, for wich I need to finish the base first... Aghr!..

As for the wire in the middle of the base, it's really have no purpose, but to be there for the volume. I don't like pointless objects much, but there should be something, otherwise base will look way too plain. Anyway, I think I will redo the whole base anew.

@MrMerlin:

The base is heavily dependant on the pose of the miniature, but in this case the posture is rather simple, so the guy can stand on any flat surface. And that's where I stuck...
You know, the base can be (and should be) simple, but simple things are always the hardest to make...
Ain't our hobby is all about making ourselves such a small problems out of nowhere?

exactly my point... well we could all just watch telly 24/7 and be done^^ but no...we have to keep bugging ourselves with these problems... we really have some wierd issues going on^^

well... if you want simple yet effective base ideas... have you recently looked into dsteingass thread? he did some nice and simple yet effective flat bases for his `munda gangs...ebossed plsticcard and granny grating is the major ingredients there...

What is a life without problems? Just a boredom! Well, depend on problems, of course... Most of them I would like to avoid

As for the base... Aye, I saw Dsteingass's stuff - an amazing one, I'd say. Something to keep in mind.

I've changed the current base a bit so the legs are on the one line, and repositioned the miniature itself:

I think it looks better now.
