Anyone have a really nice paint example and good discription of how to paint blood angels, Id like to get better using inks and washes but I havent found anyone that can really explain how to use them in detail.
Thanks

Funny you should mention that. Our club president plays Blood Angels, so of course I added mangled Blood Angels to my new Warboss base . I did and easy and effective paint scheme. Mechrite Red base> Blood Red over most of it except recesses> Highlight Blazing Orange. I didn't use any washes, but did do a quick and light dusting....as it is a beheaded Marine, after all It was easy, and I think it came out pretty good.

Well, I've always liked my own, but then again I may be biased!
I use the paints that no one else will touch with a ten foot pole, but if you're interested I'll go over my technique:
I use Testor's enamel. I start with a much brighter color then I want the end result to be. Then, I drybruch with steel or white. Finally, I do a wash using rubbing alcohol and charcoal pastels. I use browns for flesh, and black for most other things. It creates a really grubby look though so if you're going for the clean marine look this one won't do it.

Glaive Company CO, while I think you're a brave soul for using Testors (I used to use it myself back in the RT days) and I wouldn't recommend it's use to anyone else, I do like the darker, grungier feel you've given your Blood Angels - very nice!

Now THOSE Marines look like they were in a proppa scrap! Not these dandy ole parade Marines! I really like the grungy look, nice and oily and covered in dirt. Now I need to go repaint my base...

Its well painted but a little too messy for my liking, but then again I take hours upon hours on my models to get that sparkly clean look and then I dumb it down with chipped metal, dirt and blood, Orks <3.
Depending what washes your using Id recomend different things, The old ones tend to give a nasty glow off them as they dry up all glossy, If you want to use them as shaders Id suggest mixing Chaos Black with some water or maybe Chaos Black + Scorched brown + Water, making it as thin as you need it. Then rehighlighting etc as you see fit. Personally I use washes mostly to define edges of surfaces that would have extreme shadow on them. But say yellow ink works wonders on bright yellow undercoats. If unsure experiment on dummy models!

try machinarite red over black undercoat (2 or 3 thinned down coats should do it). then mix up some red ink and blood red paint and paint over the base coat. to shade try the new baal red ink or the purple one.

I painted this simple BA Terminator starting with a white primer base coat, then a solid coat of Vallejo Model Color Carmine Red, two light drybrushes of Carmine Red mixed with a drop of standard orange craft paint, and then a secret watered down black glaze - which can be substituted for black Wonder Wash, GW Badab Black Citadel wash, etc.

No. I use a much more complex glaze mixture which combines paint, ink, gelatin and other secret ingredients.
The only color glaze I like to use is black. Blacklining and shading models is time consuming, but if used right you can achieve the same effect using glazes. The more I use black glazes, the more I've found how to manipulate their usage. I used to highlight my models before glazing them. Now I do the reverse.
The problem I have with black glazes is the "dirty look." IMO all black glazes are relatively the same, unless your mixing your own formula. So, to get a more clean look, use more glaze than paint, ink, color. If your using store bought, add water to thin them. However I really like WonderWash Original. I've found it to be just right.

I'm about to start my 6th BA force with the release of 5th ed.
My planned scheme is:
Black undercoat
Mechandrite red (to replace a red gore undercoat)
Blood angels red on panels (leaving recesses free)
Blood angels red/blazing orange mix highlight
Fine line highlight of blazing orange.
Will take some time but should work well.
Will post pics when models done (likely 2010 if my current rate of painting continues)
