Subject: My Imperial Guard Tank Conversions (updated)

Here are some tank conversions from my IG army. I'm planning on converting every model and at 1406 points so far (not counting the vulture, for which I cannot find the rules) I have succeeded with 40 unique guardsmen. Here are some tanks conversions of a chimera, hellhound, salamander scout vehicle and leman russ variants, I will post up the soldiers when I get around to painting them (which won't be for two weeks as I have to go to my local store, which I cannot do this weekend) and then photographing them. Well, onto the pictures. EDIT NOTE: If this gets bumped to the top of the page, it's only because I had to fix some links.
Here is the Chimera. Nothing drastic, although it has been repainted using spray paint as undercoat this time. I removed all rivets, which didn't turn out quite as well as expected. I tried to turn it into an armoured car before, but I abandoned that when all I could find was thick (paper) card which didn't work anywhere near as well as plasticard would have.
This is an old image, before I repainted it. I was so proud (about killing the skullhammer). Although the Salamander did manage to take off a structure point and blow off its cannon with a heavy bolter round in the back.
This is the Hellhound. I wanted it to look more than simply a chimera with a different turret. I took the basic idea off the US site (before they butchered it and removed everything but the shop) but you can still find it on the UK site under the catachan section. I also didn't like the hellcannon so I replaced it with two sentinel flamers. I have links to WiP picture in my Sig.
This is my pride and joy. It's made out of a land speeder and a lot of thick card. Well, something with the chassis of a chimera was a bit big to be scouting the enemy territory. I won a small 6" by 8" by 8" box of bits for this in a conversion comp at my local store. It was the 'encouragement award'. OR as I like to call it, 'Horray for the Half-track!' award. I won a 8" by 12" by 18" box in the raffle later that day. It was a good day. It was originally going to be more buggy like, with 4 wheels etc. but to buy 4 wheels in Australia over mail order... [shudder], 5 pounds for the wheels, 12 pounds for postage. I kinda wish I'd put more detail into the back bit. You may notice that there is a missile launcher hanging off the side. The loader picks it up and shoots. It's a hunter killer. Just so you know, in an apocalypse game, the loader picked up the missile launcher and completely blew up a big mek stompa with 4 structure points, which, apart from losing all its void shields, was completely fine. He has now been promoted to Supreme Grand Master of the Super Salamander Buggy. I live in Australia, but if anyone wants me to build one for them, PM me. You'll have to supply me with most of the parts though.
Here is my dog standard Russ. It has served me well and I haven't even tried it in 5th ed yet . I wanted to make my Russ unique, so I went and bought a predator as well and tah-dahh!!! The predator turret fits perfectly with the Russ, even better than the russ turret does methinks. The gun on the top of the turret counts as a pintle heavy stubber. I really wish I had taken more photos, I'll post some up later. This also worked out really well I thought. But not as well as...
This turret worked out brilliantly. I had a spare predator turret, and a demolish cannon. The missile rack counts as a hunter-killer in normal games, but in apocalypse, it counts as a 'rack' of hunter killers that can be fired all at once if one wishes. The crewman is removable and the hatch closeable for when someone's parents are present. Apart from that he stays in most of the time, as people tend to shoot him a lot, but he still survives. MUAH! HA! HA! HA! HAAA! Unfortunately, I like the look of the demolisher turret better, but the standard one is much more effective.
That's all, thanks for reading. Check out my infantry as well please in the link in my sig. Praise and worship is welcome.
Very late edit but it doesn't matter since the last time I edited this, it didn't bump it:
And here's my new tank commander.

I absolutely love the buggy! It´s a great idea, don´t think I´ve seen it before in here, and nicely executed.
Could you show us a side shot, so we can see the track/wheel bits better?
Oh, and the converted inferno cannon is a GJ too, I never liked the original one either, good to see some more alternatives.
Your vehicles could do with some markings though, at the moment they seem a bit muted.

I like your Russ variants. I too went the way of the Predator turret for both my Russ and Chimeras. Thankfully managed to get a load of individual turret sprues before they stopped selling them individually!

I think the HB sponsons look a little funny on the Russes, but other than that, I love the way the Predator turret looks with the Battlecannon. The AC Chimera is nice, too. But I'm blown away by the half-track - I'd love to make some of those to make as Sentinels. Could you post a couple shots from a little farther back? I'd like to see what the entire thing looks like. How did you assemble it?

Thanks for all the replies. I'll try to have more photos posted up this afternoon. Unfortunately I won't be building another buggy, and so I won't be able to take WiP picturesso you can see how it fits together. I'll take as many as I can though and explain things.

I'd definitely appreciate that - I've got a couple land speeders sitting around while I build my Guard army that could use some converting.

Alright, here are some more photos. If you need any more or have any questions, just ask. These were taken when it was dark, using a desk lamp as a light source so the quality may not be as good as the last photos.
Here are some more photos of the buggy, hopefully they help. I'll try to explain the general shape. I don't have the instruction manual any more, so it's hard to remember how things were before I cut them up. The frame that goes around the back of the seats was a lot longer before it was cut. First of all, that is cut down so that it only just sits on the piece which encompasses the back of the seat i.e. cut just before the air intake. The base piece was cut just behind the hole for the flying base is. Of the piece that was cut off the top frame, shave off the air vent, and it gets placed on the bottom of the buggy, for support. The open bit on the back is made out of thick card, a cheap (and shoddy) substitute for plasticard. The 'wings' were used as side pannels. The marine legs were gouged out of the seat, which was then repaired with greenstuff. The back 'door' is made out of a rhino top hatch. That's all I can remember at the moment. Ask me if there's still any doubt or confusion about anything.
Here are some more angles of the Russ. I've tried to stop the sponsors from drooping down, but nothing seems to work.
Here are some photos of the standard turret.
Here are some more pictures of the Hellhound, so you have a better idea of how it works.
That's all. Thanks once again.

Really like the over all earthy look you have done. Tanks are hard to do for me because of all the flat areas that are boring unless you know what to do with them. You conversion work is well done. The only thing I have not so positive comment on is the snow , its look a little to deliberate. Having been place where it snows alot and seeing tanks with snow on them, you need snow on the tank too not just the tracks. Your last russ pics show some spattered on the tank it self and that looks good just do that with your others and it will pull the whole look together. Please keep us posted.

How did you do the legs for the dudes driving the salamander, did you cut down the marine legs or use sentinel legs.

The Halftrack is a great idea!
I'm so stealing that idea though i'll replace the wheels with ski's. The hellhound turret looks better then the normal one. Ill try to post some pics when i can get to a GW store. Which might be a while since i live on an Island.
