The Pan Fo have not been reviled to you?

Back in the day, when Andy Chambers still worked at GW (this was around 2003-2004, I reckon), some kid came on Dakka (and a few other sites, as I recall) to promote the codex he was sending to GW called Codex: Pan Fo.

Aside from the typical typos found in internet fanfic ('reviled'), it was a pretty silly concept (as I recall, their technology was powered by flatulence, or something).

The kid showed back up a couple of years later basically saying it had been childhood enthusiasm, but that kind of took the joy out of bashing the idea out. Wait, no it didn't.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Actually, he just posted it on the GW boards, and it spread around from there, due to the combination of the silliness of the list and the sheer desperation of the kid trying to get in touch with GW because one of the Devs (I think it was actually Phil Kelly) had told him at a GD that his home-brewed codex sounded interesting and that he should 'send it in'...

Essentially, aliens evolved from reptiles on a world with no orbital rotation, who had been in 'status' (probably supposed to be 'stasis, but nobody could convince him to change it) for thousands of years beforer reappearing to invade the Imperium... for some reason. They floated around on clouds of gas expelled from their posteriors, and carried some ridiculously heavy equipment. From memory, the basic trooper had what was essentially a twin-linked autocannon.

Some interesting ideas in there, but buried under waves of silliness, odd physics, and nasty, nasty spelling... they became a standing gag whenever prospective new armies were discussed.

To his credit, when he popped up on Dakka a while back, he did seem to take it in good humour that people had been poking fun at his idea for years...

Revile the Pan Fo, for they will surely revile you!

Edit: Didn't Blackmoor or Centurian99 write a Pan Fo army list?

I posted this one. It's not based on the official codex, though.

I think you need more Skittlybarbs in 5th ed. Especially with the new cover rules.

Speaking of homebrew codexes, where is the section to post them in?

Although, I'm not too sure if it's worth working further on the one I'm involved in, since homebrewed ones generally don't get taken seriously even if the developers do manage to make it the most balanced thing ever in 40K. That's because if you see something you don't like in an official 40K army, you either just accept it or moan in vain at GW. But with unofficial codexes, it's so easy to point something out as cheese and presume that it's all just 'Codex: Fanboy Empire' that unofficial codexes almost have to be grossly underpowered for anyone to accept them. Alot of official codexes would probably be immediately branded as overpowered and fanboyish if they entered a club as an unofficial codex.

And isn't Pan Fo that antagonist with the huge pin through his hat in 'Big Trouble in Little China'?

The Pan-Fo is all of us. All of us who ever sat up with friend designing our own codex/RPG/wargame, drawing hideous art and convincing each other that an evil army called D.E.A.T.H. would be like, ultimate cool.

We revile the Pan-Fo for we know something just as hideous lies in all of our hearts.

The proposed rules forum is the place for a homebrew codex, although if it is in the finishing stages, I'd suggest making an article out of it as was done with the LatD revision.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

I don't know...

On the one hand, this was some Level Four Threadnomancy.

On the other, the Pan Fo should never be forgotten!

They should be reviled for Eternity!
