I love orky robots. There, I said it.

Ever since the Tinboy was released way back when, I loved the idea of Meks tinkering away on these nearly indestructible piston-powered creations. Then I saw the Defiler kit way back when it was released, and saw the orky potential contained within! I would have to make a giant Tinboy. Eventually this Tinboy idea morphed into a Mad Scientist type army, with a Mad Mek at its helm, bent on destroying those that wronged him and called him crazy! Bwa hahahaha!

Ahem.

So eventually I wanted to have every element of the army feel like it was part of this Mad Mek's Mekanikul Monstas Mob. As such, most of the pieces in the army are going to be converted in some way. Hopefully there are enough pictures in this initial post to show what I am aiming for. Also, I'm hoping that this blog-esque thread will help to motivate me to get this army finished! It's been years in the making, with my stopping and starting on it. This is going to be my primary artistic focus until it is done, and I hope that blogging it will keep me on track.

Note that all the pics here are all work in progress in some way or another, nothing is yet completely finished.

So let's start with this piece, some of you have seen it, I think:

This is Morkzamilyun, basically a warboss's brain in a robot body. He's been done for a while now, and serves as one of my leaders. The other leader is going to be a converted Big Mek with Kustom Force Field, using the standard one that's available now.

Having a Warboss let's me have this next choice as Troops, however:

This is my TinBoyz mob. It's basically a Nobz Mob with a Painboy, in this case the Tinboss. He keeps the Tinboyz repaired and running. I plan on having the Tinboyz painted in various craftworld and chapter colors to mock the beekies and the panzees. I really like these models, and they are the catalyst for the whole army idea.

The TinBoss:

I wanted him to look like he was controlling the Tinboyz by remote in some sense. You can see the little Atari-like joystick in his right hand. I plan on adding quite a few wires and such to his grabba arm to make it more interesting. In game terms it is a 'Urty Syringe.

The Big Mek as HQ lets me have a Deff Dred as Troops, so:

Nothing too special here, I just wanted him to have the Iron Jaw, which is kind of a running feature on several models in the army.

To emphasize the Mekanikul Monstas theme and Mad Scientist feel, this mob of Slugga Boyz has been made into Cyborks.

They are all converted in some way, either with simple head and arms swaps using Necromunda pit slave arms or Gorkmorka Bionik bitz, or converted with head sculpts and scratchbuilt arms. They will just be regular slugga boyz, but if I ever field Mad Doc Grotsnik I think he would fit right in with this group.
Some more pics of the cybork mob:

This is going to be a converted Dred Bash style army, it only makes sense with the big stompy robot theme! So I had to have at least one mob of kanz. There's going to be 2 mobs, but this is the only one I've started.

I really don't like the red glyph color on this kans front plate, looks too much like lipstick or something. It'll be made black before too long.

Now this is going to be the centerpiece of the army. Gorkzilla! the Mega-Tinboy.

He's going to count as a Battlewagon with a Kannon, Deffrolla (his feet), Wrekkin' Ball (one klaw), Grabbin Klaw (the other klaw), several big shootas, and possibly an armored top, depending.

The contraption on his shoulder is a short range tellyporta array. I hated the idea of having a battlewagon that didn't look like it could transport troops, so the idea is that Gorkzilla gets close to the enemy and then activates the array. The mob being 'carried' by him is tellyported to him from another tellyporta array just off the battlefield. Works the same way as if a battlewagon would be carrying the troops.
Here's some more pics:

Currently, Gorkzilla will be my main focus for the first part of this thread. I want to get him finished and based and then I'll move onto another section of the army.

So, that's the first part! Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions or questions and I'll do my best to answer. I'm going to do my best to update this at least once a week with some form of progress.

Sweet! I love the idea for the tellyporta, that's an ingenious solution to that prtoblem. There's not really much I can say here apart from how brilliant everything is!

Yay GrimTeef! I've been diggin your work since Morkzamilyun was in pieces, and I'm really happy to see you expanding on the Tinboyz theme. Gorkzilla is looking dead stompy, and the touches on your troops really help cement an overall feel.

But the most incredible bit? Using the drum-fed shoota as shoulders for cybork arms... flipping brilliant! Consider that as good as looted, I'm tempted to drag out my old cyborks and fix em up! Great work so far, looking forward to more!

I love the old Tin Boyz models and Gorkzilla looks pretty incredible - reminds me a bit of the new Bumblebee from Transformers in that color scheme. Can't wait to see what you do next.

I liked the idea of using Gorkzilla as a "counts as" battlewagon for regular games.

Have you thought about creating your own data sheet and using him for Apocalypse games? That way you could make the rules surrounding him a little thematic. Maybe make him on par with a Stompa?

Thanks for the kind words!

Greeby - I'm still considering making a separate round Tellyporta platform with tracks or wheels to show how the whole idea works. Would also help me remember which squad is using the battlewagon/tinboy at the time!

Teek - I can't really take credit for the drum-shootas as shoulders bit. I saw that in one of my internet searches, looking for inspiration for making cyborks. One particular guy had done it, and I looted the idea. I bet if you google image search for cybork the one I found will come up.

DBM - Thanks! Gorkzilla continues apace, I got some more painting done on him last night. With luck, I should have him finished to a point that I'm happy with in a couple weeks. Then I have to think about his base...

Lagduf - I suppose I could do a data sheet for him, but I am so happy with the current Battlewagon rules that the data sheet idea is way down the list of priorities. I mean, I can finally stomp some gits with giant metal feet and tear apart vehicles! What more would I need?

Bartius - thank you. I think once I get Gorkzilla finished, the cyborks are next on the list.

Okay, new pics finally! I still have to finish the black areas like on the face and shoulders and the pistons and pipes, the red guns on his hands, add some weathering and chipping to the main gun, grime up the pistons that are on his upper body, do the white highlighting on the edges of the upper body, and finish off the power plant... sheesh! That's a lot!

The base will likely be something like the new scout biker bases, where the long edges are straight and the shorter edges are rounded off as a circle, maing a long pill shape. Gotta get over to my dad's workshop to do that!

great work, love thee orkyness of big smashy mekanikz

just annoyed i collect iron hands lol, about the most im going to get to do walker wise is convert a dread to be a "techmarine dread" no special rules, just fits in with my army, and i get to give it a massive servo harness.

Ah yes I remember Morkzamilyun well. Looks like you have been doing a bit of work indeed. Any chance you have WIP shots for the yellow beasty? On the Waaagh some where that I just missed? Always like to save those WIP shots and mark special bitz to make my own versions of stuff I like for my Ladz. And I really like the Big Bots you do. Now if I could just settel down and make bots like yours and truks like Krooza I would be golden! LOL Great work keep us posted!

hmm, im thinking of a defiler based tech dread lol, no one said a SM dread has to be normal size
and since its iron hands they might make a few "kustomizashunz" ere n there.

Thank you all for your comments! They really help keep me motivated to move forward. I'll try to answer some questions here:

Magikal - the Tellyporta array is mostly made from styrene tubes cut apart in various lengths, a Tau landing gear part, a ball joint from the Defiler, a little bit of Magic Sculp for the smaller orbs around the main array, 2 different plastic wheels (one bike wheel and one old plastic metal-looking one), a tank wheel, an old Rhino hatch, and some plastic rod for bolts and nuts.

Wehr - I gotta go look for that, it sounds cool. All walker? Keen!

Flamming - I am going to try and do a Morkzilla, assuming how big the army gets. I don't know if I can afford another Defiler though right now, I may have to completely scratch build it if it was soon.

Vyper - I'll try and find some WIP pics of him before he was painted. I find those pics are very informative to me when I see other folks post them, so I think I kept some around.

Count - Tonka truck! I was hoping for more of a Bad Moon feel, maybe that'll come across when it's all finished. And Morkzamilyun is on a warboss-sized base, and he's a bit bigger than a Killa Kan. Here he is:

man these look fantastic! nice work. WAAAAGH!!

if I may suggest. change either your mek with KFF or warboss into mad doc grotznik

why? so the slugga boyz you modeled as cyborks can actually BE cyborks!! would be way fitting and you could use them WYSIWYG.

not to mention the look on someone's face when they blast you with ap fire and you go to roll dice..

"oh yeah.. they all have 5+ inv saves"

"all of them?"

"yeah.. the entire army"

Thanks for your comments, all!

All right, an update finally! Got the paint on Gorkzilla himself finished, and constructed his base. The base is actually about 75% of the area of a Land Raider from the top, so I think that with his height and the True LOS rules being in force now, that this is a fair size. He's basically a double-decker Land Raider!

Anyway, the base isn't painted yet, but will be very soon. Just wanted to show that I ain't slackin'!

I also have some more progress on my cyborks, but I don't want to show anything on them until I get them a little further along. Once I get Gorkzilla here done, it's them next. And I know, I'm getting sick of looking at Gorkzilla too, this will be the second to last thread update I make that features him!

And the "Big Red Go Kill 'Em Attack Button"!

Comments and criticism both much appreciated!
