Ok, so I'm now so hacked off with the lazy GW attitude of producing their Space Marine miniatures at the same height as their Imperial Guard and other units.....according to the fluff Space Marines should be big and intimidating....not these pygmies GW seems to be content to throw at us.
So, I've decided to do something about it! I was going to start off with converting all my Dark Angels, but with all the metal Imperial character models availible it didn't seem wise to have "normal" troops as Truw Scale and the main players as dwarves. Instead I've decided to start a new army, a chaos army....going for Black Legion, with a few other elements thrown in.....like a Fallen Dark Angel.
Anyway, heres some of my troops so far.....please comment and let me know if you think this is worth while or a complete fail. Most of these models are NOT finished yet, and need layering, and some of the flash removing....so please consider everything to be WIP.
Here we go.
First picture is a standard Assault Marine sized up against an Imperial Guard Kasrkin. Normally he would only stand "taller" because of his top knot in his hair.....now we can see a massive difference in height.
This is the Fallen Angel. I wanted him to almost proudly display the iconography of the Dark Angels...almost like a taunt.....and again, you can see a marked difference in height. He stands over his ex-brother Dark Angels by almost double their height!!
And here you can see a Chaos Terminator, he's obviously used parts of fallen Imperial Terminators to repair his own armour. Again, massive improved height in comparrison to a standard Terminator.
The whole aim of this project is to have a very fluffy Space Marine army in terms of scale. Abaddon and Kharn the Betrayer to come.

If enough people are interested I don't mind doing a mini tutorial. It would be great to see more Space Marines at a more fluffy scale.
I made the Dark Angel and others, by first adding plasticard to the feet. I added two layers of 1mm thick plasticard to the feet, cut and filed them to be a similar shape to the original boot. Its not too important how neat this is done, the neater the better, but when you add flocking or basing of some kind, the chances are that some of that "detail" will be lost.
Next I cut the legs so that the hips and thighs are seperated from the lower legs. I normally do this just above the lower autopads. its in here that I add greenstuff. I then glue the finished legs to a base and allow to set.
In between the legs and the torso, I also add some greenstuff, further increasing the height. and finally between the Torso and head....I add a little greenstuff to him him a neck.
Its pretty simple, and after doing about 12 of these you start to get the hang of it and it really starts to speed up.

I think he was referring to the conversion to the model itself and not just its scale because I'm agreeing with him completely. Love the pose, paint job, scale, everything. Kudos on making the scale upgrade work!

The big shoulder pads look a lot like Dreadnought leg armour, and I guess if you're chopping all the joints anyway to add length then you may as well go mental on posing as well
Great work!

Thats correct, I have been occasionally upsizing the armour pads. I've used dreadnoght armour on the Fallen Angel and the Terminator. Normally on the Marines I'll be using Terminator shoulder pads over standard Marine shoulder pads.
Glad you guys are liking the work. I'll show my robed Fallen Dark Angel tomorrow.

Nice work, really prefer the look of bigger marines. I only beefed mine up by using some greenstuff under the shoulder pads, pretty much invisible and gives them a broader appeal. You could try it with your first chaos marine to prevent him from looking to tall and flimsy.
I will surely try these techniques on my future Marines!

@ Schepp
Yes, I know what you mean. Thats exactly why I've started to do the others with Terminator shoulder pads over standard Marine pads.
They look even more impressive and stronger.
The only drawback to this, is time.....to do a battle force takes some serious time.

@Delephont: They look really good, my only critique would be the mold lines which can be an easy fix. Of all of them, I think I like the Fallen Angel the best, could we get a side shot showing his powerfist? I like the way it looks and was wondering what parts you used for it?
Thanks,

That fallen angel is made of win in it's purest form. The assault marine looks a little lanky though, it could maybe do with a little bulking out. Top stuff.

These models look really awesome you should definitly be proud of them, and i really like the idea of "fallen." i saw an army of fallen once at the games workshop in singapore, they were being painted for big game that was coming up there, but they were really borign compared to yours. they were just pretty much dark angel models with chaos heads and the dark angel sgn crossed out, looked kinda silly if you ask me, so i like you models alot more!!!! especially the whole size thing!!! really cool!!!!!!

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated.
I'm sensing alot of love for the Fallen Angel. The pose was based on this picture:
I'll take some more pictures of him later today. I will remove the flash lines and base him a little later.
Thanks guys

I'm surprised people aren't arguing whether or not it's in scale or not (B&C had a rather long thread about how the above image isn't in scale and the head is too small in comparison to the height of the body etc. and how a normal human is 8 or 9.5 heads in height whiel that thing is 11-13 heads in height etc....
ACE JOB! I love it. IMO, a guardsman sized mini's head should end around the bottom of a marines shoulder pad. I think you've captured this pretty well!
The only thing I see wrong is that the arms don't really look to be in scale (compare it to that kasrkin mini standing next to it, their armor on their arms is about the same), but then again, the IG sized dudes have ridiculously thick arms as it is. Also, it's hard to tell because of the angle's.

You won't be changing it because you've already painted them, but it bugs me that their thighs are so thin. It looks like they can bench a good 500 lbs. but can only squat 200.

Big fan of the work. I think you learned from the first assault marine, so the army as a whole should be boss. The termie looks rather dynamic, but could use a bit of greenstuff on the thighs, but just a little bit.

It's not that Marines are small, it's that regular guys have gotten bigger. You just need to force everyone in your area to play with Rogue Trader Imperial Guard/Eldar/Orks, and then they'll be fine!
Super conversions, man. Would love to see a tutorial. I don't mind the legs being thin, it makes the mini look taller. If they were thick and bulky, then it would just look like the figure was in a larger scale, rather than being a taller figure in the same scale as the guardsmen.
Did that even make sense?

I've been interested in True Scale marines for a while now, though cost / effort issues have prevented me ever making a proper army of them (I ended up making an "easy" Imperial Guard army). I've polled my collection, and made a sliding scale of model heights, shown below.
Going from right to left, we have:
1. A standard height Cadian Imperial Guardsmen
2. A member of the Vollengrad PDF - a Cadian converted to be slightly taller than normal
3. A standard height loyalist Space Marine of the Never Got Past the Test Model chapter
4. A standard height (though converted in other ways) Imperial Fists Terminator
5. A converted Death Guard Space Marine made from a standard Terminator with a modified chest plate.
6 A converted Chaos Space Marine made from a standard Terminator like before, but the legs altered to make him stand more upright.
7. A converted and unfinished Reapers chapter Loyalist Space Marine, made from a Terminator but with additional plasticard added to the arms and legs to make him even taller.
If Space Marines are supposed to be 8 foot tall, and we assume an Imperial Guardsmen to be 6 foot tall, then 7. is technically the most accurate in terms of height, but in overall proportions, I think 6 and especially 5 work the best, and they're fairly simple, being as they are just terminators with resculpted breastplates.
Anyway, I'll stop invading this topic now.
