Im finally getting around to updating my green hell. I picked up a box of the new loota's, and was wondering about the bases.

Should I base them on 40mm bases, or let them wobble with the 25's? I didn't woory about them before, but after I found a couple of the old metal deathskull lootas, I am beginning to wonder.

For those who don't know, they had a bunch of deathskul lootas with weapons and they came with 25 mm bases. the guys are topheavy so reast assured they fall over easily.
So, is there any reason NOT to put them on the 40mm bases?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

well technically you have to put the model on the base it comes with. i havent found the new lootas to be particularly top heavy at all. leave them on the 25mm bases.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

You're safest, rules-wise, putting them on 25mm bases, but I can't imagine too many people being upset about them being on 40mm bases. Tournaments are the only real time to worry about it, and I'd just clear it with the tournament organizers beforehand.

You can always glue a nickel or washer (or something similar) inside the bottom of the base. Works wonders for balance.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Did they change the 'basing' rules? We were always allowed to model them one base-size up than what they come with in tournaments.

All my Nobs are on 40mm for stability and detailed bases. My Warboss in mega armor and the SAG mek are on dred-bases. I was also considering putting flash gitz on cinematic bases because they are multiwound and pirates.

My Old lootaz are very topheavy as they have plasmacannon and stuff. The new ones are plastic and a little more stable but I can tell you I considered 40mm.

Too expensive.

At four cents per, 3/8" washers work very well.

Realistically though, it's a comfort thing. Some folks like their models more stable then they move them and like to have some weight on the base. If you fall into that category, then glue an appropriately sized and weighted hunk of metal of some sort to the base.

I like flat bases regardless of weight. So I glue them to magnetic sheets and then cut to fit.

Not so much for the magnetic effect but just so the bottom isn't all hollow and falling over. Also hides the nickel.

Sure you can. People do it all the time. Might not be strictly legal, but it's certainly possible

For all my plasic minis I glue a penny to the bottom of the base. but I always make sure it is heads up for good luck.

The coin actually adds a little weight and stability to the mini.

lol... Too expensive? It's a WHOLE cent!

So, for every 5 washers, you get to base ONE mini free... I smell a cheapskate. I bet your dates LOVE going to dinner with you.

Back when plastic minis were rare and top-heavy was the norm, I used to use fishing sinkers. They are small lead balls that you pinch onto a fishing line. Since they are lead, a pair of pliers mooshed them into the base for a nice fit. Also, since they were lead, they were pretty heavy and counter-balanced the mini nicely.

Nickles or pennies are probably the easiest, though. Have a party at your friends house with much booze and then toss his couch the next day (when the hangover subsides, that is). There's a good chance you'll be able to base an army.
