Is the Dark Heresy role playing game any good? Worth picking up for fluff? What do you guys think?

I think it's ace, well worth picking up.

I believe FFG-- the new publishers -- either have or are about to release a new version with the corrections etc in it. If you can get it the Inquisitors handbook is well worth it too.

FFG have released "their" version of the core rulebook (available here in the US). As well, I believe that "their" versions of the first 2 BI supplements are due out next month; IIRC, the Inquisitor's Handbook is supposed to be coming out in hardback.

The main book is very nice, but is slightly lacking when it comes to fluff. Not a massive number of stories or illustrations. Quite a bit of info, but a whole heap of game mechanics rules.

The Inquisitor's Handbook, otoh, is pretty great for fluff. Loads of nice little bits and pieces here and there - "The empty men of Sinophia Magna", The blades of Inquisitor Herrod", "The Knights of the Star sanctum" - just a tiny and random selection of fluff passages scattered throughout the book. Then theres the huge list of weaponry and wargear covered.

I like the handbook better, even though as a softback it's less pretty. I'll definately be getting the other big expansion book when I see it at a decent price (Disciples of the Dark Gods I think it's called). Haven't made my mind up on the other expansion book yet, I'll probably leave it (I don't RP).

Did Fulgrim Just Behead Ferrus?

It's ok...I was just a bit disappointed to see it was practically purely Inquisitor focussed. Also it was kind of dull to see it...well on one hand it's totally cool but on the other hand it's kind of overkill. I'm talking about the whole gothic/medieval vibe it has. Great...but in an RPG I hoped to have seen some more civilian oriented and not "dark for the sakes of being dark" stuff.

But still...it's cool stuff!

My favourite bit is all the planets they do in the back bit.
Excellent fodder for adventures.

It does bug me that none of the iconic Xenos made it into the book though.

You don't have to make it inquisitor based. Like all good roleplay games, you can make any story you want. I find the "bunch a' guardsmen" approach to be appealing, or you could throw in a tech-priest as a mechanic, etc.

"Dark for the sakes of being dark" Huh...is that not all of 40k? lol
