yeah,
So this weekend I started making Forests, they turned out ok.

then I thought; I could do with some forests in my City of death!
so playing around with the balconey bits i decided it might actually work.
I took some photos and made a pretty basic step by step Dakka tutorial article...

this is the results, a bit of green in the city, so the boys can have lunch alfresco, what do you think?

Very cool, but also, very green. In the ruined city, who's there to water the grass and keep it so trimmed and healthy?

The jury is out on the swirly hills??? I'm just not sure what to make of them????

I really really like the idea of city gardens, very la di da top of the hive!
Yours look a little "clean" next to your ruined buildings. Craters, snapped tree trunks would be nice.

Not sure how hard wearing the flock directly on paint/pva will be??? i'd be tempted to let the paint dry, then use watered pva glue with flock.

Good work!!!!

Yeah, I think that a couple craters or burned out trees would make this table even more awesome.

or I guess the grass is geneticly modified not to grow tall or sprawl... the god emperor likes a tidy lawn.
maybe the garden has grown after the city took damage... i dunno...

I just set up here to get a look at these on a table, I didn't play a game. I get like that when I finnish making terrain.

I have a few craters, but I was out of space to put them on.
I really need a bigger COD board, this is the back of my work bench table. It's only 4' by 3'...

I think burnt out trees and damaged grass are a good idea, I'm not sure how to go about it.
I think I could probabily get some of the new GW tree sets I really like the new tree shapes but they are quite expensive for what you get, and I don't need the scenic base. (wraithguard would not stay standing up)... also the new GW trees also don't block LOS as good as these old style trees.

I like this idea. When you combine the height of the wall with the lower end of the trees, you can actually have TLOS blocking terrain.

Panic, hope you didn't take my comment the wrong way. The garden area with the walls and such looks very very nice. It's just too "clean" with the rest of the city around it the way it is.

What did you use to make the green "grass"? GW static grass? Fine sand painted green?

Definitely a great idea. I like the addition of the Eagle headed supports to the entryway areas. Nice look.
I think I have some suggestions that might help your pieces "fit in" better.

Okay... So, forget ruined and blasted trees for a moment. It would look good but, as you said, you have some problems with it. There are a couple changes you can make to future pieces that will really make them mesh with the ruined & blasted look of your city. Plus, my suggestions will bock TLOS as much as your current pieces.

The first change is to use fall colored foliage. The reds & oranges of dying leaves falling from the trees will add an attractive and complimentary splash of color to your city. Same goes for the grass. Also, if you can get some of the (Woodland Scenics?) basing material that looks like fallen leaves, that will look good scattered loosely in the open ground and piled along the length of a wall or in a corner or two (that share a mutual wall).

The next change is to ruin your wall sections a bit. Everything else is in ruin and decay, but the walls to the garden stand rigid and strong... It just doesn't "fit."

Either waiy, the pieces Do look nice... just a bit bright.

yeah,
Lormax, I totally got what you were saying and agree. i used standard GW flock and static grass.

Eric, your ideas sound good, the walls are way too intact, hell the square garden is pretty much perfect! I'm definently going to break the walls up a little bit and knock a few spikes off. Changing the colour of the trees i have will probabily be difficult, but I have the GW scorched grass/static grass I'll do a few small test patches see what that comes out like.

thanx for the comments.

I'm sorry. I might not have been clear.

With the posible exception of breaking up the walls, I wasn't suggesting that you make any changes to THESE pieces.
I don't think the scorched grass would look right mixed with the uber-green. Not with the trees, either.

Mine were suggestions more along the lines of, "When/if you make more."

If you don't plan on making more... Don't worry. I fully intend on looting the idea and making a couple myself (eventually). I'll post images. LOL

yeah..

I wasn't sure if you ment that i should recolour the trees...
I know that grey death dusted the tops of his trees with spray and he thought it worked.

I'm pretty happy with them, and won't be doing anything untill the next time I have C.O.D. stuff on the paint table getting worked on.

Panic...
