Hello folks, I'm new here. Hope you don't mind me starting off with a custom model I did using a Space marine bike trio set and other plastic scraps and some scratch built stuff.

A mounted lascannon on a bike...ridiculous? Probably? lol.

What do you think the point cost would be?

thanks

Rob

Interesting. Looks like counter weighing that thing would be problem.

Do you mean model-wise or in the make-believe battle world?

As far as the model goes, it's perfectly balanced, the metal rider helps. It sometimes tips when placed facing up hill.

thanks for the response!

I'd hazard a guess he means in the make believe world where this would make battle.

If you paint it up rust colored it would look rather Mad Maxian.

I'm not sure what I think of the 4 bolters up front, but if I were to point it, I'd start out at an Attack bike, of 40 points, then add the standard lascannon price, 35. so 75 pts.

I do think that may be cheap for a 12 inch mobile las cannon with 2 wounds though.

Would it be a vehicle or a bike, that makes a difference, if it's essentially the Marine version of a War buggie, then yeah 75 pts for a 10 10 10 lascannon is about right, if it's a bike I'd bump it up to 85 or 90 pts.

LOL. I would have to buy another Battle MaCragge set, as a lot of those pieces used to build the rotating turret were the extras from that set.. Although I guess they could be slightly different.

thanks for the comments! Will be posting the painted version tomorrow.

Thanks for the help on the points. I would say it's a bike still, as I'd like it to still be considered a fast vehicle.

if you had put a multi melta or a heavy bolter that would have been a great "counts as" attack bike.

It's an interesting idea, but looks awfully unweildy as is. The gunner's platform is too high and too far back behind the rear axle. Shifting the axle back a good half inch or so would help.

And I think the lascannon would look a lot better (and a little less tacked on) if you dropped it down to sit directly on the pivot.

Clever use of bits for the pivot, though

yeah, I'm aware that's it's a bit ridiculous in it's conception, but it's my first custom build and I just wanted to do something wacky. I actually raised it that high because I didn't want the conceivable possibility of the gunner shooting the drivers head off. Plus I liked the idea of a high mount for long distance shots that will ignore via line-of-site most barricades and terrain.

Well, anyway, thanks for the suggestions, you are right about the axle but I've painted it already and it's time to move on to the next thing!

here are the painted pics.

Wow, that looks really good. Give yourself a pat on the back. The paint really brings it together very nicely for me.

Hey, thanks alot man!

To wrap this up, I was thinking of a point value of 85 points for the bike (thanks to Kyvik).

Here's the breakdown:

Bike - 50 pts (based on attack bike because it has two riders)
Plasma gun (biker) - 10 pts
Lascannon - 25 pts (sponson lascannon price)

The only thing left is to value out the extra twin-linked bolters, seeing how it's a given on a standard bike the codex doesn't list the value for them.
Anybody know what the value would be?

thanks everyone!

looks really good, I find it amusing though that despite the quad bolters and lascannon the driver still felt the need to bring along his plasma!

Just be glad lascannons probably do not have recoil. The paint job is really spectacular, but the whole thing just looks terribly balanced.

Considering the bike is relentless and will be allowed to fire everything, I'd say 10 points.

THanks alot, I really appreciate it. So 95 points it is. Phew..kinda expensive eh? Have to field it at least once, see if it's worth it. lol

As for the unbalanced issue. I agree with that assessment and I am ready to face the problem. Gee..give me a minute...

So, I have done a quick photoshop manipulation to illustrate my option for lowering it as was suggested and bringing the gunner forward a bit.

let me know what you guys think!

thanks for all your help

See now that looks waaay more like a marine bike.

I think this design is great, and with the extra details, cables and such, this is looking good.

Nice weathering also.

I'm loving this. Great conversion, particularly after lowering the gun platform. Just one suggestion though, if I may.

It might further refine the look if you were to lower the cannon itself, bringing it more into line with the targeting display, there-by lowering the vehicle's profile a little more.

Just an idea.

I took the liberty of photoshopping the idea, i hope you don't mind.
