In Episode 16 the D6G crew gets to interview one of Privateer Press's game designers, Erik Yaple. Erik tells us about what he does at Privateer along with his efforts on Monsterpocalypse.

But first, Raef and Russ discuss the hot new MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. What makes the MMO set in Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy setting different? Why is it worth a look?

All that and our usual 'not too horrible' humor, with features such as:

- When Wives Attack
- Rapid Fire
- The Hollywood Minute
- Contests
- & More

Ha!

"When your wife says 'let's get a game', you have to strike while the iron is hot!"

So true... Man, I'm still kicking myself for the time I was showing my wife the Forgeworld Great Gnarlocs and she said "I'll buy one for you." Feeling a sudden bout of geek-guilt about letting my wife spend money on Forgeworld, I said no, I didn't really want one.... The next day, I realized that I had been a fool, but no matter how much I tried to convince her it was a great idea, the moment had passed. *Sigh*

On the good side, I think a few more trips to the game store might convince her to start a Demon Army.

Red dwarf is the greatest sci fi show ever. loved the opening

Great show. War sounds interesting but the thing for me is always the fact that it's a game that you pay to buy it then you have to pay to play it in subscription fees. That's always a turn off for me.

However I hope War is successful because I think the royalties for the game should help to get GW out of the trouble they're in.

Excellent! I've been desperate for my next fix of "When Wives Attack" - the greatest part of the show!

I'm driving to Bradford on Saturday so I'm saving this for the journey!

Nice try 'Osbad'. If that IS your real name!

Clearly the wives have stooped to posting pro-WWA propaganda on this forum. Oh, and had the foresight to register this shill account in 2006.

How dasterdly is that?

GAH!!! Listening to the intro to your review of WAR was the 1st time I actually tried shouting at you through my MP3 player.

"... Any WoW player worth thier honest opinion knows that the grandfather of all this fantasy IP is GW"

WTF?!?!?! Uh, can you say D&D? It predates Warhammer by almost 10 years. & while my MMORPG experience is limited to just EQ, at least that one was so heavily based on D&D that the Monk class had the Safe Fall ability & Bards were a mix of fighter, thief & caster. Neither of which are Warhammer Fantasy Battles, nor I think, Warhammer Fantasy Role Playing Game.

Well, parts of Florida might as well be Cuba, and in my neighborhood one is more likely to hear Haitian Creole than English, so...

You might be better served by saying we're Caribbean...

What, of a 3 hours episode?? I doubt it...

Well done lads, another cracker.

Russ: I was interested in your comments about story being important to you in MMOs and how you appreciated how WAR brings the player along in the quests. What is your take on Eve-Online where there are almost two totally different story arcs going on - The fluff that the company created, and the player driven conflicts and so forth that make up much of the "story" in unregulated space.

btw: 3 hours was the right lenght to get me both to and from Berlin from London on the plane, and the drive home afterwards.

In June I have to fly to Orlando. Any chance of an eight hour extravaganza around the week of the 20th? Just thought I'd give you some warning!

Well, I'm afraid that was a bit of a "Hollywoodism" (aka Raefism). What Raef was trying to say was that WoW draws HEAVILY from the GW IP. In fact, both Starcraft and the Warcraft series do. Blizzard has stated as much in the past, and there are little hints. For example if you click on some of the dwarves enough in Orcs and Humans they'll say things like "I bought my warhammer for 40k."

Of course the grand daddy of the core of this kind of thing is initally Tolkien and D&D. But the World of Warcraft, with it's dwarven helicopters, rifles, and big bottom toothed orces was clearly influenced by GW. That was his only point.

The reason we felt the need to state this is that SO many vid game fans unfamiliar with GW have made statements that WAR has copied many ideas (specifically dwarven flyers) from WoW, when, in fact, it is the reverse.

Ah, got it.

BTW, I really liked you guys mentioning what you'd been working on in the Achievements in Gaming. Being primarliy a wargamer, it gives a extra bit of connection, even if I don't do much of the Big 3 (GW, PP, FoW).

Another fun episode. I enjoy the interviews with developers/special guests. Even if it isn't a game I play it is always interesting to hear their stories. Keep 'em coming.

Do you guys warn the interviewees about what to expect with rapid fire or do you just ambush them? Poor guys.

Business, but I will probably hang around for another week. We'll be at the OC convention centre at an exhibition. Actually a spot of gaming sounds cool, I could probably find some in my luggage for 2k points somewhere! I've made a note for next april when I'll book the flights in my calendar... Cheers.

No guests are harmed in the taping of Rapid Fire.

Far-stretching, endless Time
Brings forth all hidden things,
And buries that which once did shine.
The firm resolve falters, the sacred oath is shattered;
And let none say, "It cannot happen here".

Cannot argue with that at all, I've heard similar comments and it gives me the shivers. Penny Arcade had a brilliant comic on this exact topic.

Well, D6G saw me nicely down to Bradford (and most of the way back). Very nice. Another exquisite episode of WWA there. Now, why don't they expand the segment. Maybe a session on scrapbooking and another on Abba-related movies. Perhaps even quilting?

No?

OK then. J/k!

Seriously though, another good episode guys. Seriously.

And props for the interview. Interesting and entertaining.

I really, really hope you get Jervis on there someday!

I went to the only two places in Sydney I know of that were planning on stocking m-poc and to my dismay, no monsters. Why? because it was so successful in the US that there wasn't enough stock to send down to us. Ripped off.

Hopefully they'll be in soon but from what the store owners are saying there's no guarantees.

P.P. are too good for their own good.

Great episode.

Sadly, holiday weekends tend to slow down our releases. This weekend is an US holiday... Columbus Day (no idea why the rest of the world takes no notice) so I got a bit distracted.

My goal is to have Ep 17 up tonight. It's all recorded and in post production now.
