One Canoptek Scarab in a Swarm
|
Hi Guys,
Heres the first post of my new thread about the 123rd Cadian Expeditionary Force. Sent in the decades before the forces of chaos poured out of the eye of terror The 123rd Cadian Expeditionary Force lead by the famous Field General Prometheus Rommel came to the aid of the Vrak system as it came under siege in the 'First Uprising'. Two decades Later and nearly an entire system cleansed in the name of the Emperor The supplies stopped abruptly along with a message that Cadia was under siege.
Unable to return immediately, the imperial navy withdrew to aid Cadia while the 123rd finished the last of the rebellion. This took more resources than Prometheus had expected, so scrounging the already looted planetary defence bunkers, and calling upon the overstretched resources of the nearby Austenburg Forgeworld for transport, he readied for the trip home.
This said, the army was still vastly lacking, It had a small core of hardened veterans, with a dismal number of Death Korps conscripts. Only a few of the original leman Russ were left . most of these were reaching the ends of their lives, as they were patched up again and again and now resemble something a ork would discard. The most complete unit were nine basilisks, but munition was in short supply.
As the council of Techpriest arrived, Prometheus was given the last communication received from Cadia high command. --++ CADIA HAS FALLEN++--. Though shaken he new there would be pockets of resistance that could be united again. He made a deal with the Techpriest to use their aid in the transportation of his army, stopping where the could to pickup fresh supplies of munition, fuel, troops and information along the way. In return the Techpriest accompanied them to study the ancient machines they had recovered from vraks. They also brought super heavy tanks and titans.
And so it begins, the journey home.................. but what will they find?
First pic is Field General Pometheus Rommel Front view only

Prometheus seeks the answers from his astropath on the ETA of the forgeworld spacecraft.
++ astropath Nardith++
The smaller munition carriers have entered an orbital pattern over the planet and have transported munitions to the landing zone for inspection, but there is one shell that i do not recognize. The techpriest says it is for a 'Thor', an ancient weapon that has been brought back onto service for our needs we have also inspected baneblade rounds that seem to include vanquisher traits.
++Prometheus++
Hmm this is quite puzzling, but all will be explained when then main force arrives. At least tank commander Pyro has arrived ahead of his column so that we can begin plans for withdraw from this emperor forsaken place.
Any news from tank commander Sturm of the vanquisher command?
++ astropath Nardith++
No. the remaining forces are being delayed by the locals as they both celebrate their release from the grip of the traiter legion and offer their first born sons to bolster our ranks, most barely have complete uniforms let alone guns.
++Prometheus++
Hmm hopefully the aid of the forgeworld will help that. Pyro reckens he's found some old but useful tanks in an old planet defence bunker. But they appear to be very slow and are breaking down. sigh....... this is nothing like the army i brought to this system, it'll need a lot of work before we will be able to assault Cadia.

You've done a good job on the hellhound.
the red and white (I guess more off white) works really well with the grey.

Thanks, I originally went for a city fight colour scheme and then when i was looking at the mk1 -4 tanks from the British in ww1 (from which the imperial guard tanks were based off) had this style of marking on them. This let me add some colour, kind of red for the blood let on their home world and white for the mourning . or somethimg like that

++Prometheus++
Commander Pyro, so where is this new tank of yours that so delayed you
++Pyro++
its just coming into the base now sir, it....er.... needed some running repairs along the way. Um several repairs actually.
++Prometheus++
So which officer did you give it to command?
++Pyro++
Well you see sir, we are running a little low on the officers so I a.................. gave it to Gary. sir.
++Prometheus++
..Gary..Is this some sort of joke, i wouldn't leave that man in charge of scrubbing my latrine, let alone a tank.... and what in the Emperors name is that noise.
++Pyro++
Thats the tank sir...
++Prometheus++
Astropath Nardith, please accompany me to inspect this, addition to our arsenal....
++Gary++
Field General Rommel, i have single handedly brought a new fighting vehicle to the cause sir, in pristine condition.
Gary get out of the tank, now, before you hurt yourself, and ask the 'crew' that helped you get it here 'single handed' to report for debriefing about the tanks workings. Sigh, Nardith what am i suppose to do with this i don't even recognize the type of tank it is.... and it is far from pristine.
++ astropath Nardith++
Hmmmmm... knowing that this will irritate you sir, but the mechanicus probably will be able to help us by looking into their records. though they'll be more interested in taking it apart.
++Prometheus++
A fighting vehicle is a fighting vehicle, i will not be placing to much power in the mechanicus, hmmmm though this could be a useful as a bargaining chip.

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal. |

Thanks for the thumbs up, as for the painting,
Fist stage is fiddly yet fun. get green stuff and squeeze real flat (i mean see through) and take small pieces and place it on any flat surface facing directly up or down (don't worry if edges left, leave them). Once painted they look like rust, under and/or perking through the final paintwork.
The painting is fairly easy (though for me a little time consuming) start with black spray base, then get orange, I've gone for foundation 'solar orange' and with a tank brush hit anywhere that would have metal exposed to the elements (such as tracks etc) and where water might pool including the green stuffed areas, then paint the colour scheme around the rust (dry brush metal areas) and treat the whole area with a good helping of brown wash and your done.
hope this help

Finally the Tech order have arrived in orbit, with them come the supplies and transportation needed to retake Cadia. The tech priest have lent us the aid of thier greatest of the Baneblades. The Eldest KönigsBlade (KingBlade) Sporting the famous Baneblade vanquisher cannon. Though old this mighty tank packs enough of a hit to take down a titan. Though Prometheus is concerned about the name,' Manu - Mechano - Dues' which in a rough translation to common imperial means hand of the machine god. These heretics should know better to flaunt their contempt for the emperor. They are lucky none of the commissars can understand adeptus, or we would be should of a ride off this rock.

Very nice stuff! I am loving all the amazing tanks you have for your army. It makes me jealous of you :p If only I had the cash to buy such machines.
Anyway the paint job is awesome. Love the rusted, and weathered look of the things. It works really well the way you have painted it. Keep up the good work, and give us more pictures!

That's pretty freakin sweet. My only complaints are that the demolisher(?) cannon looks like it's obscured by the dozer blade, and that the turret sides would have looked better with the same style armour as the rest of the vehicle.

Great paint scheme, and solid weathering... there's some really good stuff here. I'm not totally sold on the King Tiger turret for the Bane tho... the zimm texture doesn't really fit with the riveted structure of the rest of the tank (and it doesn't make sense to have only applied an anti-magnetic paste to the turret) and your gun-barrels are kind of sloppily added to the front of the turret... you've got no mount for them, so how would they elevate? Bases on the other stuff you posted, I think you could have done a better job on that turret, and it would be worth your time to add a little more to it. Otherwise everything looks great, and I really like your color scheme!

I really love how you worked in the Icon Mechanicus towards the front of the hull on both sides there. That's a really cool design.
I agree with Promethium that the lack of a mount for the main gun detracts, but whatever- it's done and looks coll enough.
