I'm not a fan of the raptor models.

You can order the harpy wings from the wfb dark elf range.

Anyway, I think these fit the bill nicely.

I'll post pics of them attatched to a body later today!

C+C welcome and appreciated.

I'm not in love with the way it looks attached to the backpack like that. Its still a good alternative to the current raptor pack though. Maybe a little GS work. I think its the gaps between the wings and the pack that I don't like. It looks a little too artificial to me. It might be better when its attached to a CSM though. Lets see some more pictures.

Here we go!

I think some paint will go a long way on these so I'll keep you all posted.

I may need to fill those gaps too.

I do think filling in the gaps will help. It looks forced, but with a little GS blending, it will look like they belong there. Still, its a good conversion. Keep it coming.

Yeah, with a little greenstuff you can make the wings look like they're growing out of the pack. I think that the model would look a lot more complete if it had the head from a possessed - or at least something with teeth. I can't see it looking as good with a plain helmet.

Not bad, so far.
I prefer the Popssessed winged packs over these but, for the prices that Bitz sellers tend to want for 'em, I can see the logic behind doing them this way.

Here's the thing, though... the way they're modeled and the arms, heads, etc. that you chose for 'em WILL make or break them.

It really is a sweet and nice conversion. I had some raptors already but if I hadn't, I'd done something similiar to this. The raptors took so much of my time using the dremel to work out all the bad casting from around the clawed feet. There is no room for error with the models and no real choice in posing them either. The few models I did modify were just simple arm swaps to get a little different pose.

Done and done.

I'm shooting for having 20 raptors so already have some of those in the mix!

Should have more progress this evening so keep your eyes peeled!

those look exactly like the 3rd edition raptors. IMO those looked horrid. i like your idea and the fact you made yours different, but i dont like it JUST because of the close ness to the old school ones

well done. looks better than the current raptors and still has a vintage old raptor feel minus the beaky helmets.

Very interesting concept here. That sgt. looks very heroic and ready to get down to business. This is well done, man. The mixture of organic wings and mechanical backpack is odd and lends itself well to "chaos" in my opinion.

I like the effect you get with mixing one of each type to make sides look like they are extended unevenly- that would lend itself to side-lunging poses well.

Great idea, and prepare to be ripped off all over the intorwebs by the rest of us who don't like the Raptors.

Yeah. just a quick badab black wash to get them started. then blocking in with purples, other metallics and green power weapons.
I should be able to get them on the table pretty quickly using this technique.
Gonna wait for some decent light and I'll show a test mini.
I used Humbrol acrylic 'Hobby Spray' (silver 11).

I wouldn't have posted a How 2 if I had a problem with that.
Cheers.

Thanks again everyone.
More pics to come soon!!!!!

P.S There is a medal for the first to name the source of the wings on the two sergeants!!!

These are very very nice looking. I've actually been thinking of getting some metal wings to add in to my SM army. I was thinking more along the lines of feathery wings though, for an angelic look.

Yeah, I had thought of that for a 'fallen angel' type look.

Both the carrion and pegasus knight wings could do you well.

This is what I am up to with the silver undercoat.

Here is a quick test mini.

I am going to get all of this army half painted like this.
By just concentrating on the focal points of the model they can be played with sooner
and the task should seem less daunting.
I can then revisit them at my leisure and finish small details.

I should be finished with the assembly of the other raptors this evening and will post pics.

Thanks again for the kind words.
