So I'm thinking of making some custom drop pods. I did some googling to see there were any guides or ideas out there. I originally thought of using a Yoplait Yogurt cup:
Spoiler:

But searching some more, I found these sites:

And I got thinking that I want to try to use some thick poster board and play off of the designs I've found on those sites.

Do you guys have any tips or suggestions for me? This is my first "attempt" at building something like this. And getting this idea really made me feel like I'm really getting in to the hobby of army building/painting/assembling and stuff. And I plan to post progress pics as they come.

I thought they'd put a drop down box that you'd need to click to open up to see the picture and link.

Most of my drop pods are those former GW france plans.
No-one can tell me my dreads can't use them because they don't fit (I have them modelled so that one door opens, and the dreads fit inside nicely.)

I also have plans for the 5 door pods which involve a little more effort to get a similar result.

I will, however, buy a plastic pod, when I feel like modelling up a Deathstorm pod

I've found another site that shows how you can turn some PVC in to a drop pod. Link I think it looks neat, but it seems like a lot of free hand painting.

My current plan is to make a drop pod out of foam poster board for troops and I'd like to use the PVC one for Dread(s). Like, the PVC pods look more heavy duty, like you would expect a piece of machinery to pop out of it. Pay day is friday, then I can get cracking on these ideas.

No way, just using card from boxes? thats cool. what did you glue it together with? and do your doors open?

yeah mainly boxes of fosters lager!

I used templates, you then pva glue 6 layers per pylon together which gives detail and add the base and doors, the pva solidifys the card into a sturdy piece. Its easy but time consuming.

I used them in store before the plastic one was released, it had the staff fooled till I let them pick one up (then they just thought it was cool, they werent bothered about me not using the actual kit).

Sadly the doors dont open.

I've got some templates that I've found via google(they're in the OP) but I'd like to see the templates you used Sleazy.

Amen, what exactly are you asking

I'm going to take a crack at making one tonight by the way. I'll post up some pics of how it goes for me.

Trying to build these from foam poster board is kicking my ass.

Does anyone have any other templates that I can check out?

my templates are different from those you linked to mr train (other than the dread ones).

I reckon using foam core would quicken the process. I might try it with balsa and then use card for the detailed layers. only prob is balsa can warp.
