I have several years of painting experience under my belt but I find something is off with my plague marines. I think it may be a lack of brown to dirty the miniature properly. I did use delvan mud wash in strategic locations just to show shadows, but am leary of doing the whole model as it may ruin the drybrushing. If I do wash them with some thing else it will be a lighter brown so it doesn't overpower the green tones I have going on. My chaos miniatures has also alway featured brass on the armor, tin bitz hightlighted heavily with brazen brass. I thought this might be too bright for accents on a nurgle model. I'm looking for some feedback on what to do to make these better. They're probably going to see the field most games so I'd like them to look good.

Thanks!

I find it best to use a mixture of Devlen Mud + Thraka Green (50/50 mix) on the green armor, if you want to see some of the results check out my blog on here, mixing it with the green still gives a "dirty" effect but doesnt overpower the green too much because of the green wash

just my 2p anywho

You could also try the effect they showed in a white dwarf (sorry forgot the issue). It was very simple, use an old toothbrush and "flick" a watered down paint (think they used a "muddy" brown in their example) onto the models. Gives a very nice random dirty effect.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Frankly, a little gloss could do them some good - right now they look too matte. They need a little slimy shine.

Personally, I would keep the bases trimmed black. The green detracts my eyes from the actual models and makes it all kinda blend together. Otherwise I think they look great!

or paint the edges a dark brown.

you can always use the sepia wash if you think the mud will be to dark.

take care

Dark brown for the bases. In my opinion, one should never have black-rimmed bases. It makes the model look unfinished.

A dark color for the rims will almost certainly make them look better.
I believe you´re having trouble with these because the green on the bases interferes with the green on the marines.

If you paint them in a darker color, it won´t disturb the eyes as much.

And please, not gold rims for this type of army.

(Also, green rims is sooo 2nd edition.....)

I think the painting looks good.

Two thoughts:

1. A wash of purple over green can give a nice "icky" feel to the figure - the green looks great how you've done it in the second photo though.

2. I think they need some strong accent colour - picking out something small in red or purple would contrast well with the figures and give them some more "oomph"

I'd agree that the bases would look better a different colour:

I think the careful application of a red ink to the plague-y bits would do wonders. As it stands, the models are green... and that's about it. They need a little more colour for them to work.

For example:

I agree. Your minis really are nicely painted, but they have just too much green. Ink some of the detail areas and you should be rocking

they're great! but you might forget picking some marines up since they blend with the grass. some brown inks randomly put on them would be great

I went with some of the great suggestions above and repainted the baserims 'orkhide green'. Yeah, I know it's still green but it's so dark it contrasts and it's one of the few foundation paint colors I have. I inked the fleshy spots and added two members to the squad, a flamer and a melta. I wasn't able to get the paintjobs exactly the same for them but they're close enough that it's hard to tell without looking for it. Thanks to my high resoloution on the camera I can see that I need to go over some of the baserims again to get rid of mild streaking. I think they'll be done then unless someone has more suggestions.

Thanks for the tips guys!
