I just finished painting my Terminator Chaplain. I still need a touch up here and there and I am gonna do a wash on it tonight. But let me know what you think.

Not the best shot but a shot nonetheless.

Not bad for a first miniature! Although I might have started on something a little easier, like a normal Marine...

Baptism by fire I guess. I wanted to challenge myself. By the time I do my umpteenth marine I'll want to die. I have a mess load of painting to do. And this hangover is not doing anything for my ambition. i'll post a final once I get my wash and touch up. I'll see if I can get a better pic too.

My first painted minis back in the day weren't my simple ones, but my favorite ones, the ones I wanted to see painted on the battlefield the most: my berzerkers, my 4 armed chaos lord, and my heavily-converted RT dreadnought.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Lines look pretty clean, esp. on the metallics. Once the wash is on, it'll bring out tons of details. Good job on your first painted model!

You've got the base coat down no problems. Don't limit your imagination & have fun painting how YOU want to!

Really good for your first model, I might try to dig up my first attempt at painting ^.^

Throw enough Goblins at anything and it should go away, at the very least there will be less Goblins.

Good job man you can only get better over time so keep working at it. It can be frustrating at times, but in the long run it is well worth it. Don't worry about getting it perfect now. Once you have an army done and play for a bit you'll become utterly addicted.

Looks nice! Paint is clean, no jagged lines I can see so I would say well done! One thing to try that I like to do (and if I don't describe it well enough say so - I'll snap a pic once I get home and post it to demonstrate) is to layer your gold.

What I mena, is I usually start with a brass. No drybrushing just paint it on like you did your gold. Then I put a 1:1 wash of black ink over it. This will really darken it (which is good) but it will still leave a nice metalic highlight. Once you have done that drybrush your gold onto it. If you do a light coat it looks like a nice bronze but if you do a couple of layers and build up the paint (very slowly is the key in dry brushing) it will look like a nice worn gold look. Thats the only thing I hate about metalics are that they are SOO bright. This would really help tone it down some.

Hope that helps!

That's grand for a first go!

I think my first one was the barbarian from heroquest, painted with my dads model plane paints (enamel if i recall correctly). Didn't look anywhere near as good.

Looking forward to the washed version

better than anything that i could do with a marine, and i have been painting for a year, although it must be said, only painting well for a number of months

good work, keep it up, use some wash, and you will have a more than good looking army.

Thanks for the compliments. I will post more pics as I progress. I must say that for a bunch of wargamers, this is probably the most friendly collective of enthusisasts I have ever experienced. I am glad I happened upon this site.

I remeber my experience with testors back in the day of model airplanes and such. I still have my pride and joy model of the Cygnus from Disney's "The Black Hole". It is missing a few pieces, but I can't find the heart to toss it in the rubbish bin. My favorite favorite mod came from a partially completed Camaro and an AH-64 Apache. How I wish i had that hellfire rack when driving...

The best advice I can give you (having no idea how old you are) is only paint when you are sober.

The same advice goes for using a craft knife.

If it's stupid & it works, it's not stupid.

I totally understand the sober part. I will heed this wisdom. I am still waiting for my wash paints. I will post a new pic as soon as I get them.

Thanks!!

Alright, I have finally assembled and basecoated my entire army. I added everything up and in it's entirety I have a solid 2500 point army. I also finished my terminator chaplain, and I painted one marine before bed last night. I just got my citadel washes in the mail. They are pretty good, but you can make them on your own just as well. The ease of just grabbing a ready made wash is handy though.

I'll toss up a few pics for ya...

Thanks,

My first attempt involved a SW Termi Squad, A can of grey spray paint and about 15 seconds of my time

For some reason they did not turn out as good as yours

I am an experienced painter, and I work in the graphic industry, so I had some knowledge coming into this...so I am not some kind of savant, I think these have een the smallest things I've painted, though.
