Inspired by the Genestealer Cult army on the front page (and since 3 unfinished armies aren't enough), I decided to play with some greenstuff & the contents of the Black Reach box. I've always loved Tyranids (genestealers especially) and thought it would be cool to convert my unused Orks into a "Greensteela Kult". At the rate I work, it'll likely be a ten year project, but I figure why not- worst case is I never finish it and build some much needed conversion skills. And I can always use what I make for Space Hulk games.

Ruleswise, I plan to eventually field the army using Tyranid rules- heavily converted Ork hybrids as gaunts, straight genestealers as genestealers, and maybe a few big project conversions for some others (Carneymeks, Zoeytroops, etc).

So far, just a couple done, but I hope to post pics as I complete them. Unfortunately, I probably have a bit of a wait until it's warm enough to prime them, so just unpainted pics for now.

Hmmm well I suppose that could work but gaunts aren't as tough as orks. that's the only flaw I see in it but nice conversion work.

Yea those are pretty con conversions. I hate that your slicing up my fellow Orks, but pretty damn cool either way

I like it, especially the one under the ork hybrid; the orky broodlord. The Ork Hybrid, though, seems a bit out of proportion - think it may be the claw is as big (if not bigger) then the ork himself Though, its a kinda of dark picture and I don't have any other point of views so I may be wrong!

I like it but the shoulder pad on the broodlord is a bit rounded and organic looking you might want to fix that with a hobby knife or something

Even with better lighting and more angles, the claw does look outrageously huge, but in a charming way . Once I have more completed, I may go back and redo that. I've got some assorted spare 'nid bits on the way, so that should add some depth to my bitz box.
I'm right with you on the shoulder pad looking too rounded. I'll probably file it down a bit before I paint it.
And I like Da Brood Boss & Sporeboss suggestions- I'll have to think on those.

Last night I started work on a Carnymek- I probably wont finish it for a while, adding bits slowly when I need a break from hybrids.

Gotta say you really had me at Greensteala too that is an awesome name, I'm loving the look on that Carnymek, only thing is what kind of steroids is that Ork taking to get his head so big? Perhaps if you do another one try having orks riding a mech carnifex type monster, theirs a few pics around the interwebs of people doing it and it looks awesomely funny.

Also as another note don't forget most hybrids have their original arms and an extra Genestealer arm, if you can use some basic ork shoota boyz and graft on the stealer arm somewhere along his back or under an armpit you have a perfect stand in for Gaunts with Fleshborers or Devourers, Hormies could probably done the same but maybe with 2 Hand Weapons in each hand + the stealer arm + posing them to make them look like they are running/leaping over rocks and crap thats been discarded on the floor.

Also to tie it into Nids even more what you thinking about for the paint scheme, perhaps you could do some parts of the flesh a light blue/purple as well as good old fashion orky skin to show the stealer infection is spreading throughout their bodies?

I'm planning on doing some of the traditional hybrids with the spare arms eventually, but I plan on having a wide range of morphs. I'm kinda going for more of a "true" hybrid look across the army- my thinking is since Orks & 'Nids both have alot of spore stuff to their backgrounds, why not full cross pollination? So for the Carnymek, I'm going for the look of a carnifex tainted by Orkiness- end result, a massive ork. Not sure if it'll all mesh, but if it doesn't, I love the idea of a carnifex manned by grots (I bet I could sculpt a decent bit & bridle )

The hybrid pictured is the first of my "Hormygrunts". I'm working on one with leaping bug legs. I had the same idea as you there- all those with 2 melee weapons are Hormigrunts, those with guns are Termygrunts. I'm gonna see how it looks with one of the 'nid guns sculpted onto an ork arm.

For the color scheme, I'm thinking green blending into traditional genestealer purple. I'm going to do a tester on a genestealer at some point here, and if I don't like how it turns out, I may go green to blue, with the true genestealers in an aquamarine. I may even end up all green with purple clothes- I'm not 100% on my color choices until I paint one or two.

FYI, there was a Ork Genestealer Hybrid model produced way back in the day. It's kind of a small, silly model, though.

Actually, that model was part of my inspiration. Came across it a few places while doing web searches for Genestealer Hybrids after seeing your amazing army- I'm glad you're not ashamed of what you've wrought

I like the idea, because the idea that only the artillery-like nids (don't feel like looking it up since I am kinda drunk =p) are connected to the orks is profound, when they are the strongest (orkiest) race in the galaxy. ^^

Great stuff I really like your sculpting work how about some big meks as Zoanthropes? Or do you feel Weird Boyz work better? Are you planning to make Grot Rippas?

I think weird boyz would make better Zoanthropes because they're already psychic. I really want to see that giant ork canifex finished.
