I had a very unpleasant time when I lost one of the single links for a rhino chassis once, leaving a nice big gap on one corner of a model. I never found it, even after moving out from the house and removing all furniture from the painting room. Still, I learned how to do a greenstuff cast that day.

And here is what I was cursing about

Never been that fond of the Leman Russ model so here is my version, using Predator turret and sponsons, Chimera chassis and the remains of a pen as the main armament.

I also used one of the Predator turred lascannon for the magnetised modular hull weaponry.

This new Russ will join my other one as primary escort to my mechanised force... Now to see what I need to do to make a legal force under the new codex

my friend Illiex and I have been wondering about why GW makes you build the whole suspension system basically as well as putting the tracks on. Why do they have to be so small and looseable!?! Illiex was actually wanting to devise a system so make them move. I'd rather shoot myself with a improvised boltgun than do that.

also, those are awesome Flinty!

Chocolate chips are like Imperial Guard, you don't measure them, you just keep throwing in more until there is enough.

I'm reasonably certain that they do it becaue they hate us to our very cores... but then they release even nicer shinies and my soul gets squirreled away in their secret vault again

(Thanks )

First thing: imagine doing all the tracks for a stormlord!
Second thing: how do you make a greenstuff cast?

Build a Tank model by Dragon, then talk about tank treads, you have to put every single little tread together one by one.

I thought the superheavy tracks were larger and therefore rather less fiddly... Having not actually built one, though, I can't comment definitively.

Apply greenstuff around the part you want to cast. let it dry. remove the greenstuff mould from the part. use mould to cast new parts.

what materials should be use after the mould is made?

EDIT: im not sure if superheavy tracks are more fiddly but i found them hard.

Dont forget to mix vaseline in with the moulding greenstuff, otherwise when you cast new greenstuff objects in it, they will just get stuck. You need to line the mould with vaseline as well to help prevent it from happening, and need to give a light coating of vaseline to the original casting object to prevent that getting clogged with greenstuff too.

Thick enough to cover the whole area. You should only ever do this for small parts like single tank treads or purity seals (or textures) because of the flexibility and crapiness of greenstuff for this task. If you google there are some tutorials on it out there.

greenstuff casts now thats a good idea.

I remember putting together a basilisk long ago. It was a real mother. I also lost one corner link (now its hidding under a armored section so I can hide my shame lol) in the track. Not only were they somewhat annoying I remember the whole take was kind of a basterd to do. Granted I was younger and hadnt been assembling minis for real long. Still I remember it bugged me

I hate them and, actually, i would prefer single links.

My only grouse with GW tracks is that they never put enough single links on the sprues. As has been mentioned they can disappear onto the floor, never to be seen again.

Also, spares are nice when you want to 'up armour' your armoured vehicles.

If only they sold bitz. Say, that's a great...

oh, nevermind.

Sigh. I miss the days when the bitz flowed like... uh, like something flowy.

Having recently put together both a shadowsword and a trio of LRBT´s, I´d say the leman tracks are worse than the superheavy tracks.

I must say though, that the new frames of tracks are way better than the old (black) ones they used to give us.

russ tracks win hands down for most fething annoying.
landies arent too bad, mainly large sections.
the russ ones seem to take forever.

helped put my friends tank company together a while ago, i stupidly offered to put together the tracks while he built the chasis for them.

I'm missing a single link for one of my rhinos. At least the IG treads look usuable as armour, the marine ones for some reason have an off centre tooth that looks wrong when attached to a hull. Of course you'd need to have extra ones to actually do this so I agree that having say four extra single links (two per sprue) per tank would be good.

I definately prefer the way GW do their treads though to the old single piece rubber treads I had to deal with when doing 1/72 scale tanks and half tracks, now they were a pain in the proverbial.
