Hello Everyone!

After lurking on Dakka for quite a while, I decided it was finally time to start up my Necromunda blog. I've been working with Necromunda for a long time now but after bit ordering and the Specialist Games site went the way of the dodo, I took a break. Only recently has the maddening joy of =I=munda forced me to take a look back at my collection and really start up work again.

So this blog will be painting and modeling of everything Necromunda. I am most interested in making gangs that work with all the rules Necromunda has had over the years, from the original book to nefarious additions such as the House Weapons List. In addition, I would like to delve into the theory of gang and model design and hopefully join some of the dialogue that =I=munda has started about how we participate in the hobby.

Anyway, enough babbling. Let's get this thing started. As a first post, I am going to share some of the pictures that have highlighted the past. So welcome to a part of the Underhive I call The Coil.

Thanks for your time all! Enjoy!

Well, to start your terrain looks great. I too have been a long time fan of the Munda! Love that game. Unfortunately I do not have too many folks to play against here, as they are all taken up with 40k. The zombie are a cool look for the under hive, reminds me of a Halloween game I ran for a stoke I managed a while back. Keep the Pics and info up I will be watching this space!

Good to see =I=munda has another new believer!

Lovely terrain and some great pics there. What do you have planned for this project then?

Thanks for your responses so far.

As far as where the project is going, I am just finding Necro again after a couple of years and I found I have a huge amount of stuff and very little of it is completed. Just a couple of gangs, and yet, I have most of the range in bins. So, gang by gang, I'm going to go through building my Necromunda collection. Of course, I hope to throw some terrain in here from time to time, but limits to both my time and space may prevent me from doing too much terrain.

Now, where will I begin? I think I'm probably going to start the actual P&M part of this blog with Enforcers, as they were the smallest and thus easiest group to get back into the hobby.

Updates soon.

Thanks!

ENFORCERS

To start off the blog and get me back into Necromunda, I opted to complete an Enforcer gang, as they seemed the easiest to model and paint. There are only a few conversions in this group and the paint scheme is pretty easy. These are still WIP, as they still need squad markings, and little stuff like that.

The first thing I did for Enforcers, was to work up the Arbitrator squad I'd had from years back. These guys are generally more heavily armored than standard enforcers and much tougher.

In terms of gameplay, there aren't many differences. In my campaigns, while Enforcers can be played by one or two players and are generally seen as local authorities, Arbitrators are much more a tool of the....well....the Arbitrator. They are completely incorruptible and cannot be bargained with.

When it came time to decide on schemes for both groups, I wanted to move away from the grey and red of the studio Enforcers, which I think look painted to me.
I decided to go with something not usually seen in my Underhive: Black and white, crisp and clean. Starting with the Artbitrators, I created what I think is a good feeling of Imperial authority and control with their black armor, white accents and silver trim.

As for the Enforcers, I took that initial color scheme and worked backwards. I wanted them to look like they belonged from the same organization as the Arbitrators, but that they weren't as ceremonial or well equipped. The makeup of the gang went as follows:

First up were the Storm Shield and Power Maul Officers. The Enforcer box only comes with two Storm shields, but with their captain and a cyber-mastiff in tow, there was more than enough front line power. I decided to give one of them a comms-array for communicating with the precinct house and working with his cyber-mastiff.

Next up are the mid-range fighters. While the Enforcer box only contains 2 shotguns, I decided to green stuff mold a 3rd.
This was my first time green stuff molding anything and it worked very well. On the final models, you can't tell the difference at all.

A couple of bolter armed officers give the patrol teams a bit of cover fire, along with the heavy support in the form of a grenade launcher and heavy stubber. Nothing too out of the ordinary here.

and

This is a view at the back of the enforcers, to get a better idea of their color scheme. While the Arbitrators are all completely black, The Enforcers wear brown fatigues under their carapace.

To get a better idea, here are a few comparison shots between the Arbitrators and the Enforcers.

The Grenadiers

The Shotgunners

The Judges

There's still some work to do with the Enforcers of course. I would like to make support units for them such as Servitors and lesser ranks, as well as filling out the missing special weapons and such.

Thanks for your time all!

CAWDOR AND CRITTERS

So just a small update on the progress made recently.

Right now, the Cawdor boys are up and getting finished. With the newest version of the House Weapons List (as a former member of the Necromunda Rules Review Committee I am very aware of all the dislike of the HWL, by the way) Cawdor got some interesting additions. They are now one of only a couple gangs with regular access to Bolters and Bolt Pistols and the only house gang with regular access to the hand flamer. So I needed some new fighters to bring these zealous weapons to the fight.

First up are the Bolter-armed gangers. With a little GS to fill in the gaps and rebuild some fingers and a hand, they are ready to go. On the back of one is a hand flamer, the design of which I think I saw on Dakka once, but I can't remember who it was who put it up. Let me know if anyone remembers so I can give due credit.

Then we have a juve ready for painting.

This guy has a chain and a GS mold of a Kroot grenade at the end of the flail. With a Bolt pistol, he ends up being kinda pricey for a juve, but the bolter just looked too good in his hands to pass up.

My other project has been working on my Ripper-Jack swarm. I don't know why I ended up with a whole swarm of the things, but I have never had any luck painting them and, inspired by the realistic tones of the =I=munda logs, I thought I would give them another try, with a more real-world scheme.

First, the wings are done in Pale Flesh and washed once with purple and then with a very thin brown. Once the rest of the model is don, I hope this will give the wings a leathery, and hopefully even opaque look.

Anyway, more to come! Thanks for your time all and let me know what you think!

CAWDORS

So more work on the Cawdors coming up. I needed to fill out the game with some close combat gangers, which are curiously lacking in the Necromunda range. So after a great deal of looking around, I decided to make a few out of old Redemptionist models.

I used GS to make this redemptionist a bit more Cawdor-looking, adding a new collar and extending the length of his hood. I also had to do some work on his mask, to match the leather ones worn by regular Cawdor. I have more work to do on this guy, more GS to make his fit more closely into the existing gang.

Here is a closer detail of the mask.

CRITTERS

Like I said before, I have always had a hard time finding the right way to paint Ripper Jacks. I have never been fond of the purple and pink Outlanders version of these guys, but until now, I haven't been able to find a scheme I really liked. I finally found a paintjob that suits both my necro collection and the spirit of the miniature and I am excited to get these nasty guys on the table.

This is the complete swarm in all its glory. I have no idea how I ended up with so many Ripper Jacks, though I can't wait to field the whole swarm in some scenario.

I wanted to make the Ripper Jacks look not only like they could be real animals, but that they could be mutations of present days animals. I imagined these gyus as something like a combination between a bat and a crab, so I wanted them to look like they had a definite and chitinous exoskeleton, along with some very leathery and almost opaque looking wings.

Thanks everyone for your time! More to follow!

PIT SLAVES

Another small update while I am on a roll building stuff this week. I have been looking forward to a Pit Slave Gang, as they have never been fielded in a campaign of mine but for the usual hired gun. They also give me a chance to start some conversion work, as there are so few models in the range and I want a nice diverse gang.

First, I decided to sacrifice a couple of Goliath Juves to the Pit Slaves. These guys almost perfectly match the Pit Slave models and just need a bit of trimming and some green stuff.

The second Goliath conversion needed a bit more work as I wanted a Pit Slave weapon on the left arm.

Here's a closeup of his Rock Drill

Next up is a hammer Pit Slave. I added some extra armour plates with green stuff molded Kroot pads.

Another thing I wanted to make sure my gang included was a couple opf Pit Slaves without the traditional Pit Slave weapons. These would be lower ranking fighters, or just specialists in armed combat. Of course, they can also be used for Pack Slaves as well.

and another

That's it for now. Thanks all for your comments and criticims! They are always welcome.

If you take into account eBay mark-ups I think you're probably a millionaire in Bulkheads alone! ;p

This is becoming a superb thread. The swarm of Jacks looks great (I love that colour scheme) and I think the Guilder Enforcers look really neat! (Almost like the Confrontation Ash Waste Nomads!)

I'd love to see a full battle report with any part of your collection! :]

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Thanks for the input guys! One of these days I'll have to actually count out how many of those bulkheads I have, but I think I ended up with either four or five Necromunda Boxed sets....so there are plenty. To be honest, I've gotten kinda bored with the Bulkhead buildings, so in the future, I will be looking for more creative ways to spice things up...

In the meantime though.

PIT SLAVES!! CHIEF and TECHNO

The Pit Slave Gangs Chief and Techno are not models I am a big fan of, so I took some liberties to make something a little more fitting.

This is the Pit Slave Chief. I imagine he was at one point a Defense Force officer who deserted and ran out of luck somewhere in the Underhive. His military training gave him the skills he needed both to escape the Guilders and lead the rest of him followers.

I wasn't sure if the banner would be too much, but now that the build is complete, I think I like the feral feeling he brings to the gang.

Next up is the Techno. For the techno, I wanted a support character that is more machine than man. He can fill all the roles of a Techno, but he is pretty much just a tool for the Chief to wield.

Being that the Chief and the Techno are the only pit slaves in the gang allowed to carry anything more than a pistol as ranged weapons, I had a hard time decided what I wanted the Techno to wield, but after a great deal of thought, I decided a flamer was the perfect support addition. This gang will be up and in your face and there will be no need for someone in the back offering cover fire....it will be gun and chop the whole way..

Anyway, that's all for now! Thank you all for looking and let me know what you think!

Brilliant stuff had some great fun converting my scavvies back in the day. Really tempted to start getting involved in some of this. Some really nice GS work. Is there any chance of a description of the GS mould process? Or a link to one.

Thanks Xanthos. I think you're right about the hand flamer.

As far as the Techno, he actually doesn't have a backpack, that's just the old servitor model with Fabius Biles' Servo Arms....a litle trim and they fit on perfectly.

Pit Slaves (cont)

After reading ifurita's tutorial on Magnetizing a Valkyrie http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/239178.page I was excited to try some magnetizing myself. Unfortunately....or fortunately for my finances, I was able to stave off the temptation to pick oup one of those models, at least until I start working on The Ash Wastes.

However, as it turns out, Pit Slaves are a perfect way to introduce yourself to magnetizing! Here is the first fruit of my effort.

I am lucky to have enough spare pit slave weapons that I can arm these three in a wide variety of ways, making them a perfect addition to the gang and even more perfect hired guns.

Here are the armless Pit Fighters painted. I kept the color scheme of the rest of the gang, which is already quite feral and piratey, so they will work well with the gang or on their own.

Still working on finishing the weapons, but I'll post when they're done too.

Now on to the gang proper.

Pit Slave Chief
I have never liked the Pit Slave Chief model or his weapons, so I took a few liberties. All that remains of the original model is the extra shotgun arm. As this would be one of my only ranged fighters, I decided on a Shotgun as it is reliable and versatile enough to give me support with Bolt Shells, as well as heavy fire up close with Scatter and ManStopper Shells.

As for his Pit Slave Weapons, there is a school of thought on some forums to give Chiefs Shears. In my opinion, these are a bit fickle for your most powerful fighter and they tend to draw a lot of extra fire due to the psychological effect of an instant death snip. Instead, I want my Chief to be able to advance with the rest of the gang and not have to worry about being too attractive a target. So I've given him a Chainsaw, to add the extra edge of a parry to my hand-to-hand terror, as well as a Claw. The claw will give him the advantage of being able to throw his opponents out of combat, either off a nice high ledge, into their comrades or just out of combat long enough to charge again.

Here is the Chief from the back. The banner grafted onto his shoulders adds the to the pirate feel I wanted, as well as giving the rest of the gang something to unite around. As for basing, I want your opinions...I'm thinking he can go on a larger round base...not sure though...any thoughts?

Techno
Next up is my Techno. I wanted a model that looked like he'd been around and had at some point become more machine than man. t this point, he is a strong fighter, but is slowly becoming nothing more than a tool for the chief to wield.

I choose a Flamer for the Techno out of a desire to keep him from taking too much fire. Instead of sitting him in the back row taking long range shots, I want him to be a part of the gang, up in the front with the rest of the team. These guys will specialise in fast attacking ambushes and there will be no time for going on overwatch at the back of the table.

Those familiar with the newest incarnation of the Pit Slave gang will notice I have not included a Servitor. They seem a waste of points to me, frankly, especially for a force that will remain as mobile as I hope this gang will. A bit like a Heavy with a Lascannon, really.

Next up are my special addition to the Gang in an effort to add some cheaper fighters. These guys will take on the roles traditionally given to Juves in other gangs, and though they aren't quite as expensive as the regular Slaves, they are just as powerful.

and from behind

And one more with a Maul.

and from behind

And now for rest of the pit slaves. Here are my prior additions, Goliath Juves that I used to add more variety to the Pit Slave range. They fit in just perfectly.

and another

Finally, here are the rest of the Pit Slaves. I salvaged another Techno model and added some bits from Kroot sprues to add to the feral feel.

All in all I'm pretty pleased with these guys, though I still have some work to do....bases of course, and another few pit slaves to add to the group.

And of course, there's the next gang......Cawdor, Orlock, Goliath, Escher or Redemption.....Any thought?

Thanks for your time all. Let me know what you think!
