The forthcoming Guard update has galvanised me into action regarding my small armoured recon force.

The command tank now has a new satellite uplink and smoke launchers while I've actually started painting the 2nd Russ.

Both are based on a shortened Chimera chassis with Predator turret and sponsons. Main gun is an old pen.

Now that the base coat is on the standard russ I need to move on to highlighting and details... Updates may be forthcoming at some point (work allowing )

I really like the looks of your tanks being on chimera chassis's. I personally like the chimera because of the rivets and the lines on them. Nice work for real

seriously, i think you've done great work. very nice looking Russ! i think the Predator turret almost give it a modern tank feel.

That gun is huge! Imagine if the orks got hold of that thing.......

That was definately the idea. I think the combination of a larger turret and longer main armament make it a lot more contemporary. I have a bunch of Chimeras based on the same idea.

I like them alot.

The painted tank is excellent. My only quip is the use of the Tau weapon. I'd prefer Imp weapons all around, but that's more a matter of taste.

I'd love to see them all painted up.

Heh... my inspiration for the gun was a description of a Panther where the "gun seemed to go on forever!". None of this piddly short barrelled rubbish

Thanks. I should probably say that the burst cannon was put on way back when I thought I would be using it as a Tau Auxiliary vehicle. When I decided to start Guard I couldn't be bothered to replace it. The command Russ has magnetized Lascannon and HB.

AAaaaaaaand done! First Leman Russ is ready to smite the foes of the Emperor. Pictured here with one of my Grenadiers... swimsuit edition to come.

Its the first time I've been so deliberate with the highlihgting and I'm still not sure if I'm totally taken with it. Also it was a bugger to do in the 3 camo colours.

Now to do my other 5 tanks in the same scheme

After the black undercoat it required a couple of layers of Catachan Green to get proper coverage. Same with the brown. the highlights are composed of a reasonably random mix of the base colour and white.

Those look really really great. Also, if your going for the high-tech guard look, something that works really well is using a havoc launcher to represent a hkm system. It also gives the turret a nice sense of balance and height. At the moment, the tops are looking a little bare.


But still, excellent work. The predator turret is the best turret ever. Also, if you are playing apocalypse, you can say that they are vanquishers.
