When I started my Tau army I wanted 2 units of fire warriors, one with rifles and one with carbines.

10 games later I realised fire warriors with carbines are pointless (the space marines loved me having to come to them to get into range!), and I wanted some pathfinders in my force as I like the idea of them.

I looked into getting the GW pathfinders and found them to be very pricey, and let’s be honest, they’re not significantly different from fire warriors from the aesthetic viewpoint. Then I suddenly realised that I could do a conversion, not something I have tried, but as my mate Fin says "If you don’t try you don’t know".

So I thought about some concepts. Initially I had the Kroot rifle muzzle/markerlight mounted above the firewarrior, on the part that became the antenna. This looked slightly odd, though I did want to do something different I did not want my pathfinders to look like something out of war of the worlds either! As this didn't look quite right, I decided to attach the markerlight to the top of the carbine instead.

I'm pretty happy with the results, all you need is left over kroot parts from the 16x kroot box, a good craft knife, a paper clip, a set of metal snips, super glue and a 1mm fine detail drill.

I'm making my Pathfinders out of Fire Warriors as well. I just don't like the GW ones because they're so weedy looking despite having the same stats and armor. Not to mention all the action poses when they're best suited (imho) as snipers sitting in the back of your army shining their laser pointers in your opponent's eyes.

I'm splitting boxes of Fire Warriors, using the standing/kneeling legs for Pathfinders, and running legs for Fire Warriors.

If I knew, I'd tell you.

Simple but effective conversion.... however they need more uniqueness.

I had a lot of extra Fire Warrior antenna's laying around. All I did was glue those to the top of the Pulse Carbine's to represent the Markerlights. It was simple and it looked good.

Simple conversion, nice. If you wanted to differentiate them more from your Fire Warriors I would recommend trying to remove the big shoulder pad. I wouldn't have thought a scout unit would want anything that clunky bolted to their arm

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Aye I know there's the argument that they are scouts and should be lightly armoured.

But on the other hand, I'm not quite obsessed enough with the detail to care that much!

Carve off the leg armour, and they also don'y have thhe shoulder pads.

I did something very similar myself cause I wanted different path finders!

I like the scope idea!

My comments are my own, and mine own alone. If you have any complaints, please report to Mr Spanky who will take them down for you.....

Those are nice man. Everytime I see a Tau army, it makes me want to build a tau army. Someday I guess, after I destroy everything wit me Orks ov course!
